Good explanation. If we take example of iPhone, just a few years ago they used to have such high perceived value because there were no discounts and iPhones were so expensive. Now even though prices are high, because of so many sales and discounts on older models, the perceived status / value of iPhone is much lesser IMO.

Veblen effect is an age old concept from economics. The perception the more expensive it is, the better the product!! Of course there are some expensive products which are genuinely good, but most people sell the logo! On another note, could you please make a video on fashion brand watches like police, guess etc, which mostly made with cheap material but sold due to the logo, whereas genuine watch manufacturers like citizen or Casio are genuinely good products.

Although I didn’t know all these steps in detail, I was familiar with the general outline about luxury brands. And you’re absolutely right, no matter how much you reveal, people will still buy these brands for the ‘status’ they represent. Perhaps it’s time to rethink what ‘status’ truly means, beyond just monetary value.

People won’t stop buying because a lot of people especially a lot of rich folks buy from these brands because they simply like their products. This video only explains the situation from the perspective of middle class folks for whom such products are status symbols.
@paggi93
@paggi93 4 күн бұрын
@@AnkitJaiswal-uc8vz Exactly my comment! I just didn’t mention that it was regarding middle class. My comment was more about how luxury brands are often seen as status symbols specifically within middle class circles. For many, purchasing these products isn’t just about liking them but about what they represent socially. I understand that the wealthy might have a different relationship with these brands, but my focus was on how this dynamic plays out for middle class folks.

It's sort of like gatekeeping, the point is not is it worth it or not , the point is to show others that you have the ability to spend that much money, and people who can spend that much sort of use that as a filter keep away and judge the "lesser" people from their circles...

The people watching these videos are usually smart people, brushing and improving their thoughts. It''s quite evident if you read the comments, that people watching this, are quite sorted already. while I agree with it - for some products the quality is good .. for ex, I shop a lot so I can give you a perspective - the perfume, can't buy cheap one it is cheap by all means - for luxury brand perfume they do give discounts . for sunglasses, there is a high price for a reason - durability, quality etc so it is justified .. clothing - old navy and gap, same brands under parent company but quality is noticeably different and so is the price .. Swarovski - beautiful pieces -- good discount too - the customer service is amazing.. so you have to be a little smart about it .. rather than just going behind big names - see if it is really worth the hype/price .. try to sleep over it for a few weeks .. if you still think, nope I still want it - then go for it - it's your money after all - just do one thing after that DO NOT REGRET your purchase :)
