@@embreis2257so what? Money doesn’t buy talent, a passion for horses and their welfare, or the drive to work harder to improve himself and his horses. Some people who have more money than I could dream of have horses, and they are terrible riders who don’t care about their animals. There are also people who grew up dirt poor and had to take every odd job the could to be able to even afford lessons, who worked their way up from being working students to catch riding, and made a name for themselves through hard work and determination.

Of all the stable tours you’ve done this is by far my favourite. Unlike the more ostentatious stables, this seems to really put the horse’s welfare first, the stalls are light and roomy and great to hear that they’re turned out so much.

I got a little insight into Polo when I co-rode a retired polo pony (Polo argentino, came to Europe as a 6 year old). What a crazy sport! But horses are relaxed before the game, go like hell during the few minutes they play and are totally relaxed afterwards again. After the game, they graze together in their herds right next to the polo fields around the transporters or walk around totally free in the surroundings of the polo field. They are horses that like their "work" and still can be horses even though they're athletes. I think that's why they're so relaxed. "My" polo pony is the most chilled horse I ever met. Whatever would happen next to her, she wouldn't care. She is used to every kind of busy, noisy environments. At her 24 years, she still would love to play (we sometimes did a little stick&ball), the very calm pony started to bloom as soon as she saw a ball 🥰 She was officially retired at 19, but the owner did some easy polo games for fun until she was 22. Unluckily, they moved away 6 months ago. I still miss her a lot.

Timmy Dutta started playing polo at 13 years old. Timmy grew up in a sports horse family, so it was natural for him to start riding at a very young age. His mother, Susie Dutta, is an international Grand Prix dressage rider, and his father, Tim Dutta, grew up playing polo in India. His father also owns and runs Dutta Corporation, a well-respected international transport company that flies horses around the world.

Vast grounds, large buildings and facilities for maintaining the horses and storing equipment. Some plots seem to be reserved for horses, which is very good. The stable is perfect but there's no ostentatious luxury and I prefer it, it's more 'lively', more dynamic. Timmy Dutta is a very young polo player who has demonstrated his abilities and already won many trophies. He is ambitious (in a good way) and there is no doubt about his determination to achieve his goals. I wish him the best! Thanks Matt for this meet 👍👏 💙

I had the opportunity to try polo, 25yrs ago. Very exciting! Just learning to hit the ball at walk, trot and canter is a task in itself; never mind add other horses and riders plus up the speed! However, something happened during practice play and I've always wanted to ask a polo player what they thought about it. Third practice play I'd been to, on a borrowed pony (coincidentally named Rosie and was identical to your Rosie!)Small, mixed club, everyone owned their ponies, bit clicky, some happy to see more interest in the sport, others less than welcoming... Anyway, ball came back my way, putting me in front, after changing direction, off I go (at a comfortable speed for my capabilities) lining the ball up for a perfect right hand forward motion, hoping not only to hit it but do it far enough for my teammate galloping past me way left, to be able to pick it up and score. A man caught up to me and began to, using his pony, 'ride me off the ball' , Rosie pushed back (really without me directing it) And this player put his knee up under mine and started lifting my leg so I'd lose my balance! Rather than fall, I steered away and let him have the ball. I feel this was incredibly poor sportsmanship in that HE KNEW it was the first time I'd ever gotten a chance like that, and that I was brand new to the sport. However, in an actual match, is this (not the riding off so much) but the leg lift a 'legal' move, and commonly done? Just to finish the story, after my 5th practice game as we all walked off the field, this same lovely man was walking around 20 feet behind me and wound up and smashed a ball to hit me squarely in the back, just below my shoulder blades. For anyone never seeing a polo ball, they are maybe a tad larger than a fastball baseball and they are heavier and harder. Yeah, it hurt; almost winded me! I never went back. THE END

The best ones actually follow the ball and ride off other ponies thats why mainly mares are used. There's more abuse in show jumping than I've ever seen in polo

I was heavily involved in track life (early 2000s-2012) then moved south to FL and got involved in the Polo (more so breeding end) world. I got sick in 2019 (required brain surgery) and can no longer ride. This was such an awesome video. It brought me back, so thank you for branching out and posting! Yes. The barn's appearance is the least interesting thing about the video, although the fact that all this is just to support the hobby of 1 unbelievably spoiled guy who is only about 18 is notable too, but not for the right reasons. I too want to know more about the tack, the training regimen, and the wellness program of the horses. I'm not a bit interested in the architecture or luxury aspects, and I find the Conspicuous Consumption to be sickening.

I will admit as interested as I've always been in Polo as a sport, I've also always had a bit of a negative view of it because I've heard a lot of bad things about the riders and their treatment of the horses. But this inside look (at least with this one stable) was very insightful and enjoyable. Timmy seems like a really nice guy and the horses there are obviously very well cared for. :)

@@donnapalmeri9573 oh for sure, there's too much abuse that goes on in all corners of equestrianism, sadly. i'm not saying this interview has me believing that there are no bad riders or abuse in polo, just that at least as far as this guy and his stable go, they seem to take good care of their horses, and Timmy seems to really love and value his. for me, i've only seen the negative side when it comes to this sport, so it's nice to see a positive one, in this case, the positive side is rarer. i think we need more of both the exposing of the abuse that goes on, as well as showcasing the good examples and how things _should_ be done when it comes to equestrian disciplines.

Hey Matt! I love that you are showing us other disciplines and even trying them yourself! There is only 1 polo league here in CA that I have been around, and sadly they treat their horses like equipment. One dropped from a heart attack on the aisle one time after they ran him for a long time on a 100+ degree day, and the just stepped over him and continued their work... It was awful! They even ride intoxicated. It's horrible!! So this was the much needed view I had to see so I understand this is not typical. Thank you!!

This was a great video. It appears that Timmy and his mother treat their horses to the highest extent similar to Matt and Jesse with their horses and I hope to see him more regularly on this channel. One note is that polo is one of the most dangerous sports and for reason. If anything Timmy is very open minded as he surely is aware of the relationship between Matt and Jesse. Any future recommendations is to see Jesse with Matt during such a tour and interview.

Try out icelandic horses and try out "Gæðingalist" it's like dressage but for icelandichorse. Abit diffrent but they still do most of the moments you do in dressage, half pass etc but not maby flying changes. But half pass in Tölt or shoulder in or a piruette in Tölt (or what to term is). It's a really amazing breed and would love for you and Jesse to see it :) !

There's a lot of polo in my town in SC; frequently the high goal horses are retired slowly into playing with less experienced players in less intense, lower-goal games; so the experienced horses get to teach the younger or less experienced riders; I think it works out fairly for the horses; most of them love their jobs.
