Most newborns are. It's not until 2+ months thst they start being more "Baby like"
@mochi49262 жыл бұрын
Yup. For the most part, newborns are quiet. If they are fussing, it's actually considered a problem. Which is why most parents experience anxiety over their kid's well being. Because you have to constantly monitor them for those first two months. After that, they have learned how to communicate (in a baby way) that they need shit done. So after about 2, they'll start to cry if they need a diaper change or a boob. At about 1 to 2 years old is when the parents have to start monitoring for neurotypical behaviour. So if the baby isn't crying normally or crawling, they need to get checked out. The age between birth and about 5 years old is this weird balance for parents of having to monitor between silence, noise, and movement. Since each stage of developmental growth is different.

Those nurses flip those newborns around like rag dolls when no ones looking. Because they’ve done it so many times they do it ten times faster. It’s scary to watch! I don’t know if it’s because they don’t think the babies are sweet and fragile, or just because they have to get their work done. I can imagine losing sense of time if you pay attention to the babies preciousness. She’s going slow to teach. I know each of us would have a fit seeing our babies handled roughly. It’s just unnatural to be “rough”. But if we had to do 50 babies 5 days a week, we’d probably become somewhat desensitized. Love babies!!!!
@jacobott33822 жыл бұрын
How do we know newborn babies are actually supposed to be put into that constricting mess of a blanket, why not just use your body warmth on the damn baby like you’re meant to It seems dangerous and absolutely unnecessary to me.
@nonyab56402 жыл бұрын
@@jacobott3382 I’m not sure but I think it has to do with their nervous system and the womb-like feeling. I don’t think it’s about warmth. Women in poor countries keep their newborn babies limbs and head safe, as well as nervous system calm, while they work with baby attached to them. It’s not only a thing done across cultures and time but scientifically shown to be good. I think after a certain stage of development it loses its purpose. I think it’s specifically for a certain age.
@lorac82682 жыл бұрын
@@nonyab5640 it looks a lot rougher than it actually is!!! i promise! yes babies are fragile but they’re stronger than you think
@nigelft2 жыл бұрын
@@nonyab5640 Exactly ... ... also, newborns tend to wriggle around, with arms, and legs all over the place ... I learnt that as an ex-work colleague of mine use to take me round to his place, not long after his wife gave birth to their second son. He was amazing baby, but one heck of a little kicker. As soon as the wife swaddled him up, he calm down quickly. Another thing I learnt was this: once, she was in the kitchen, and he had to take the eldest son to the toilet. The baby started crying, but my acquaintance told me if he ever did, to place a hand firmly, but gently, on his chest. Surprisingly, it worked; may be it was the combination of warmth, plus gently pressure, but that baby went from all-out crying, to happy gurgling, to almost drifting off to sleep, in seconds. I was stunned. So, when he came back into the room, and saw me with my hand still on his baby's chest, and that the baby was almost fast asleep ... I dunno ... it made me feel that, perhaps one day, I could be the parent neither of mine never was, nor never could be ... Besides which, they've only been out of the womb for a few weeks. For at least the last trimester, especially once the spinal chord has fully enclosed, and both heart and lungs are rapidly developing into fully functioning organs (so c. 7 ½ - 8 months, give or take the calendar ...), the rather large foetus - especially with a birthweight over 10lbs - is in a comparatively small, but warm, enclosed, space, where the limbs are not fully stretched out. Swaddling, hence, is not that different, especially to a newborns' subconscious. So, yeah it does work, surprisingly well. And whilst 'baby wearing', at least here in the UK, is seen as a 'New Age fad', there are plenty of nations, across the globe, where mums wrap their newborn, close to their body, because anything less is just crazy ...

My dad said that when I was a baby, I liked it when the blanket was a little tight. They couldn't figure out why I wouldn't stop crying until the nurse came in and showed my dad how to swaddle me, and told him to make it slightly tight because some babies like it tighter because it mimics the feeling of being in the womb. Man. I had one nurse who was patient and listened to me and my s/o. Out of like 7-8 nurses within the two days I was in the hospital, only one nurse took their time to help us. She taught us how to bathe the baby, swaddle the baby with instruction and patience like this women is doing here. She taught us how to change a diaper and it turned out that this nurse was the auntie of a friend of mine I had in high school, small world. But truly blessed for that women, she really understood that we were young, new to this, and she took her time. Which isn’t something people like to just give. I very much appreciate people like this.

... especially their gummy little smiles ... In an alternative universe, I wish I could believe there is a version of me, whom was able to attend a US medical college, pass through my residency, and specialise in neonatal medicine, especially in a PICU ... the learning curve is more a line, 9⁰ to the vertical, as there is a huge amount to learn, including as a PICU Nurse Practitioner ... being a neonatal/paediatric male nurse, including in the PICU, is just as much a honourable career. I would've loved to have been able to see, in person, a fragile premature baby, c. 23-24 weeks, survive, and thrive, to reach their first birthday ... despite the long, arduous, hours, and work, seeing that, I can imagine, would make absolutely everything worthwhile ...

Right! I love and adore each and every baby in my care, but I often go faster with the “burrito-ing” because I’ve had many kids of my own and helped deliver so many more! It gets to be second nature. I really try to remember though that I am teaching these new parents how to handle and interact with their new baby. They learn so much about how to interact with their baby from us providers. I like to handle babies as I would prefer to be handled. Nobody likes to be either manhandled or conversely treated like a China doll. So I look for a firm confident grip in the middle. I like to stop and remind myself that this tiny new person’s relationship with their family is forged in that first day or two and so it’s better to slow down and really teach the parents how to understand the humanity of their baby and how to savor the small things.
