somehow, I've literally never watched a Sofia Coppola film, but this video made me want to. I googled her inspirations for "Lost in Translation" after seeing the snippets here and wasn't surprised that she named Wong Kar Wai! The color grading, the cinematography and movement (maybe since tokyo and HK are quite similar cities as well) reminded me a lot of Chungking Express!

It's a really fascinating film; I like how she uses the adaptation to shift the focus more onto the women of the story. It's sort of like a mirror to The Virgin Suicides; there a group of teen boys observe a group of girls, while in The Beguiled a group of women observe a man. Unfortunately there's only so much space in a video!

Indietrix Film Reviews i mean that’s understandable however it’s problematic when you know that it takes place during the civil war of the confederate south and it leaves out a lot of the heavy racial context that was referenced and important in the original novel and Clint Eastwood film, especially the black female slave character, Hattie, who’s considered the most complex and overall best written character in the story.

Sofia Coppola, riding high on her father's connections, and name, mostly in general public obscurity, is peak current Hollywood. Her most famous movie: Lost In Translation, is not even Bill Murray's best movie, or even his second best, and if you count Caddyshack and Kingpin.. it's not even a top 5. If you believe she deserved her Oscar you bought the publicity machine's hype.

not true, her style of filmmaking is inherently female, quiet, and intimate often leaving things implied and unsaid. u probably just enjoy a more masculine style of storytelling which is fine but it doesnt make hers bad. Im a teen girl and the way she portrays concepts and themes is top tier and thats probably cause her directorial sense is automatically thwarted in the demographic of artistic teenage girls. I watched the godfather movies and i always thought they werent anything to be hyped up about but thats probably cause im a girl but that doesnt make it an objectively shitty movie franchise

@@miabortion Females aren't all quiet, or understate their feelings. Subtlety isn't just a female trait. If you're lulled into that type of thinking you'll find it hard to escape when bad situations calls for it. Yes, the Godfather movies are overrated. Sofia will always be overrated and a product of family connections in the showbiz industry.
