I can’t believe The Virgin Suicides was her first film. It had such a big impact on me, she truly captured this whimsy throughout with an undertone of sadness and intense nostalgia. I’ll never forget it. And the soundtrack? Perfection.

I had the same thought. Imagine your first three movies are Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, and Marie Antoinette - completely singular and groundbreaking. It may be cinema blasphemy, but I think she is a far more interesting filmmaker than her father.

A photographer with a great eye, an artist, a fashion literary, a mature woman of the globe, unpretentious, sophisticated, stylish, educated, considered in her choices … & a writer / director with an Oscar under her wing who walks with her father’s foot print with ease & grace - Francis. A pretty stunning LIFE if you ask me. What an accomplishment. Go Sofia Coppola. 🇮🇹🎬🎥🖋💪🏼The stories she could tell at a dinner table. WOW !

It’s so sad the public and the critics at the time didn’t understand what a cult classic Marie Antoinette would become over the years. It kind of change how period films are told.

I'll never forget the first time I saw Marie Antoinette in the movie theatre. It inspired me so much. The colour palette, makeup, costumes, architecture just really made my imagination run wild. I was just a teenager. I was a huge art nerd and into painting, drawing and makeup. Now I'm an adult and I'm lucky enough to have a creative career. I will still watch that movie when I feel uninspired and it still inspires me to dream.

Thankyou for lost in translation it really captures the emotions of self isolation and the magic of finding that connection in a foreign land , that will always stay with me as a kid , and gave me something that cinema will never replicate, it's a timepiece of human connectivity in a time that was on the cusp mass connection, it speaks to today's culture through something which is lost and the ability to take on narratives and emotions one could not understand growing up today, well done Sofia Coppola, Japan a place where traditions vanish and meet the taboo of loneliness , in the face of our ever fading familiarity 🖤

The Madison she points too with Elle fanning I believe is Johnny knoxvilles daughter as he has a daughter named Madison. I don’t think I’m blowing the lid off anything here as people who have analyzed “somewhere” have made comparisons to Knoxville as inspiration with his daughter for the main characters not to mention Chris Pontius in the movie and also Sofia was married to spike jonze one of the creators of jackass. Again not blowing the lid off anything here but interesting
