You're absolutely right about the capacities. Their most basic top loading washer is now 3.5. There are now quite a few portable washers that wash 2.5 cu Ft.

I'll bet that if you replace the spin clutch and the two knobs, you can donate this to Habitat for Humanity Superstore, get a receipt for it so that you can write it off and it will serve someone who really needs it for a few years.

Kirk, our old Whirlpool machine was super capacity. Some time ago, I called Whirlpool and was told that based on the model number it was like 2.3 cu ft capacity. The machine was at least 20 years old when it died. I replaced with Speed Queen washer that I love.

I cannot believe how tiny that tub is. I know our old Whirlpool's tub was larger than that. Our old machine was "Super Capacity." I have the model number her somewhere.

The clutch pads are worn. Needs replacing. Otherwise works great and good video.

You can pinpoint the age by the serial number, which is coded for the year and week of manufacture.

Marketing "2 Speed Combinations" -- it does have a low-speed spin. :-)

No it does not, but it is only one speed including intermittent which means agitating for a few minutes and then soaking and back and forth.

Bad spin clutch it seems. Otherwise it worked great! Likely if the spin clutch was fixed it would be running again!

Just vibration from the motor and transmission..mine does the same thing..nothing to worry about

Because it's making draining noise. It's bothers the agitator of draining sound shaking tikkles.

P in the model number indicates 1985 or 2004 market-model year. It's 2004 based on the appearance. Serial number is coded more accurately for factory production date.

It's not the same fail though. My washer used to do the same thing that washer did on your link before I changed the transmission; it's a neutral drain issue, you can hear how it's engaged, otherwise, you'd hear the clutch spinning around as in this video.
