Lydden Hill Trackday - Intermediate Group - CRASH - 4th June 2016

Guy looking at the previous crash instead of where he was going and smashes into back of another rider... Yellow flag was already out !!

No flags to be seen, a dropped bike with the rider just leaned onto the barriers chilling, everyone taking wildly different lines, the bikes leading the pack abruptly rolling off the throttle with no hands on the bars and no limbs waving in the air, and finally a marshall waving a yellow/red flag at the end of the straight in the middle of the track. What in the absolute intermediate hell did i just witness. I've had a few drinks but jesus christ that's a whole lot to process in 30 seconds.

Exactly this. This is why I stopped doing track days. Too many clowns thinking they are at the MotoGP, in the wrong group with seriously lacking abilities and a track day organiser cramming as many people on as they can. Inter group is the worst group to be in!

@@skippyguy3 it's still as bad and a lottery if you get a good group or not. Beginning of the year I was at Cadwell in middle group and it seemed like we had a load of nobbers in it trying to 'win inters' every session had at least one red flag. Complete piss take and some really dangerous passing manoeuvres. On the other hand, the last trackday I did there, the group was really good.

perhaps fluid on the track? Some serious accident on track? Cant think of any other reason. and the person in front should signal he is about to stop by raising his hand without slowing so much

At the tracks i do control at we only stop bikes on track during race days. Track days, if a red flag comes out, riders complete their lap at 50-60% their pace and exit the track. We will throw a red flag if there is a rider down that is hurt, bike down that is on track or in a crash zone or fluid on track. Seeing as how the rear rider and bike went down in the middle of the track, red flag was a good call. Guess its their rules to stop riders on track to get ambulance and crash truck out.

Absolutely a shame to crash that way. As everyone has already pointed out, the slow down on track was not done correctly, but the rider in front of the guy should have put his hand up to signal his slowing, and should have kept his line, looks like he changed his line towards the right and this other guy was looking to go to that line to get around. In traffic, cover the brake, be prepared for anything. Hopefully this rider is alright and the organization learned a lesson. In the states we get a yellow flag it means watch out, not slow down or stop. You never stop on track unless you get a black flag yourself, but never everyone. Riders that stop or slow too much are absolutely risking more than themselves. That same guy who crashed also had his brake light on (not covered), and missed nearly every Apex in the video, so he wasn’t doing well as it was. And now I see this video is 5 years old and I feel silly lol.

Putting a car in the middle of the track while riders are not in the pit and bringing everything to a standstill is crazy dangerous, red flag riders into the pits

If you look at the Marshall post on the left hand side at the hairpin. You will see that the flag hasn’t even been put out at that point due to the crash happening as we tipped in…. Hence everyone full speed up to the hairpin. Weird that this 5 year old video has come back to life with the recent comments lol 🤷‍♂️

Nope ! You can get trackday insurance though for around 2-300 per day with excess of about 2k.

It depends. I had a crash at Laguna Seca which totaled my bike and it was covered by my insurance. Worth calling your insurance agent to learn more before going out for a track day.
