Lydia Ostwald Pt. 1

Lydia (Seligmann) Ostwald was born August 22, 1915 in Posen, Germany. As a child, her family moved to Hamburg, Germany. In the mid-1930s, her sisters immigrated to Hull, England, but Lydia was working as a model in Berlin during Kristallnacht. She obtain passage on an airplane to Amsterdam but upon arriving, the passengers were jailed and were meant to return to Germany. Lydia narrowly avoided the return trip and met her husband, who was from St. Louis, while staying in the Netherlands. They married in 1939 and she immigrated to the United States in 1940.
