Pedia and Lydia do rhyme, if you pronounce the "e" in pedia the same as the "y" in Lydia. You can't make stevia rhyme, no matter what you do, because the consonants do not match.

Mo *lih dee ah* encyclo *pih dee ah* *stih vee ah* You can make stevia rhyme by changing the ee sound to ih. Just like pee to pih in pedia.
@PapagenoMF8 жыл бұрын
We have different definitions of what a rhyme is. You're suggesting a general rhyme is fine. I am an English teacher and a purist. To me, a perfect rhyme is the correct form. With a perfect rhyme, the last syllable has to be identical. Since there is no "d" in stevia, it is not a perfect rhyme, and therefore not acceptable to those of us who teach rhyme as a profession.

A friend's dad had dementia and I actually spent a lot of time talking to him. He remembered sogns that made him happy and there was always a smile on his face when enjoying it. It seems music, especially love for tunes and lyrics that make you happy is stored within the soul of their heart and is unaffected by dementia. There is an Oliver Sachs film "Alive Inside" about that very thing.

“In the 1950s Groucho was invited to take a tour of the New York Stock Exchange. While in the observation booth, he grabbed the public address system handset and began singing “Lydia the Tattooed Lady”. Upon hearing silence coming from the trading floor, he walked into view, was given a loud cheer by the traders, and shouted, ‘Gentlemen, in 1929 I lost eight hundred thousand dollars on this floor, and I intend to get my money’s worth!’ For fifteen minutes, he sang, danced, told jokes, and all this time, the Wall Street stock ticker was running blank

I've always loved the Marx Brothers! Grew up watching them! BTW, in the wonderful 1991 movie The Fisher King, starring Robin Williams, Jeff Bridges, Mercedes Ruehl, and Amanda Plummer, there is a scene that is an homage to Lydia. Robin is besotted with Amanda Plummer's character, Lydia, and he sings this song to her when they are all at dinner in a Chinese restaurant. I highly recommend this movie, as well as Marx Brothers movies!

Nah IMO all the funniest moments were put in by members of the cast and crew. For example when Jesse is suggesting ways to get out of the desert when the RV won’t start. And he lists off a bunch of things including a “robot” and a battery. Mr White jumps to action tells him to collect stuff and Jesse is like “so what are we building?”... WW says “you said it yourself”. And Jesse looks at him, bewildered, and says “A ROBOT?” That was actually written by one of the camera crew and it’s perfect

Folks, its just a funny song. I love it. Clever and memorable, it stuck in my head for a while. Appreciation of older comedy can be rare. Take it for what it is - silly and fun.

I love Groucho Marx. He would be so disappointed if he was alive today to see a world that has become such a terrible place to live in unlike the good ól days of the Golden Years.

The lyricist for Lydia..., Yip Harburg, also wrote the lyrics for 1932's Brother, Can You Spare a Dime, which became the anthem of The Great Depression; we are all much better off today.

0:37 Lydia, oh! Lydia, say have you met Lydia Oh! Lydia, the tattooed lady She has eyes that folks adore so And a torso even more so Lydia, oh! Lydia, that "Encyclopedia" Oh! Lydia, the Queen of tattoo On her back is the Battle of Waterloo Beside it the Wreck of the Hesperus too And proudly above the waves The Red, White and Blue You can learn a lot from Lydia She can give you a view of the world In tattoo if you step up and tell her where For a dime you can see Kankakee or Paree Or Washington crossing the Delaware Oh! Lydia, oh! Lydia, say have you met Lydia Oh! Lydia, the tattooed lady When her muscles start relaxin' Up the hill comes Andrew Jackson Lydia, oh! Lydia, that "Encyclopedia" Oh! Lydia, the champ of them all For two bits she will do a Mazurka in Jazz With a view of Niag'ra that no artist has And on a clear day you can see Alcatraz You can learn a lot from Lydia. La la la La la la La la la La la la Come along and see Buff'lo Bill with his lasso Just a little classic by Mendel Picasso Here is Captain Spaulding exploring the Amazon And Godiva, but with her pajamas on La la la La la la La la la La la la Here is Grover Whalen unveilin' the Trylon Over on the west coast we have Treasure Islan' Here's Nijinsky a doin' the Rhumba Here's her Social Security numba La la la La la la La la la La la la Lydia, oh! Lydia, say have you met Lydia Oh! Lydia, the champ of them all She once swept an Admiral clear off his feet The ships on her hips made his heart skip a beat And now the old boy's in command of the fleet

Here in the vid, it's not She can give you a view of the world In tattoo if you step up and tell her where It's: When her robe is unfurled, she will show you the world If you step up and tell her where Two points if you a) didn't grow up in New York; and b) got the Grover Whalen / Trylon reference without resorting to internet for either.

There was a verse that was originally in the song but was cut from the final film. It was because it mentioned Hitler in the lyrics. And of course it is considered offensive and too controversial. Even by today's standards.

In Don Rosas Uncle Scrooge comic The Treasury of Croesus, Donald always sang about Lydia (because they were looking for the lost city of Lydia). For a person who did not know about this part of American pop culture, it always was a weird song but when I found this I was like 'Ooh!!! Oh this is the song Donald was singing.' It was fun.

I had a grandmother named Lydia. She had heard this song before but it didn't make her happy. She was of the age that having tattoos was not proper for a lady. For some reason that made me like this song more.
