Good question. I put robots in 3 categories. First are vacuum only - these are the cordless/rechargeable ones that just go along the floor of FLAT BOTTOM POOLS ONLY and just suck up the debris, hair, bugs on the floor. Then there's the mid-range second group - those are the cordless/rechargeable ones that not only vacuum but also clean by use of rubber spinning cleaning wheels and they also can clean any pool (not just flat bottom) and usually clean walls and waterlines - they are slightly bigger and heavier than the first group - they have a moderately strong suction power. The final group are the high-end robots - these are often corded, but there are some cordless rechargeable ones too. They are the largest and heaviest robots because they have super strong suction and even better cleaning abilities. The S3 is in that middle group. If you have a flat bottom pool and all you care about is picking up debris on the bottom of the pool, but you clean the walls/floors with a brush yourself or something else, then the first group is great for just picking up stuff off the bottom. However, if you want something that does some scrubbing of the floors and walls as well as vacuuming, the S3 is great. It's not as heavy as the large robots and is simple to use but does a great job.

Are the wheels coated in rubber? All cleaners I tried think it is a wall, so I thought this one might be a good option. Unfortunately, there aren't that many reviews out there for it.

Yes, the wheels are a rubber material.

Won’t connect to the app. Well it does but then it just says offline. No way to connect it to wifi. VERY poor documentation

Hmmm... Are you trying to connect while it's in the water? It can't do that. You can only connect to it while it's on dry land because WiFi/Bluetooth doesn't work through water. If that's not the issue, then I don't know - I haven't had a problem connecting it, though I only do that if I want to change the mode before putting into the water - it does have to be powered on first, then connect via app, make any mode change, etc. then put in water.
