I agree with you. If you're a content creator then it comes with the territory. But does that make it okay? I counsel people about 5 times a week (not as a job) and what really pi**es me off is that we have people with real problems who aren't getting the help they need because of 'manufactured' problems. What I mean by that is, there are people who need help and support because of things that happen which they have no control over. The 'manufactured' problems, are people suffering because idiots just have to have their way. Bullying, abuse, spreading lies, etc. which puts them in a really bad place. If people disagree with Lyla, that's not a problem. I'm sure she wouldn't mind at all. I've disagreed with things she's said in the past, but IF I was to write a comment there would be a point to it. There would be something constructive. Now a days you just have a bunch of morons who want to write crappy stuff and probably hope she reacts to it so they can hurl more abuse her way. People don't think of the consequences of their words. "People shouldn't get hurt by others words". Why shouldn't they? If they don't then it makes them less human. Have less heart. As far as I'm concerned if Lyla did get hurt by these comments then it shows the size of her heart and how storng she is that despite being hurt by people she continues to create content.

I think it depends on the nature of the feedback. To say you are comparing prices but if you account per ounce or how much further thickened painted can be stretched then this one is the better value, that is constructive feedback, saying you are an idiot and are wrong, and you just need to get gud, that is cancer and no one should put up with it.

Living in Florida, its the exact opposite side problem. In the modelling community we talk all the time about being able to apply a second coat to a kit in 30 minutes etc, plus tip drying airbrushes. Here, my next bigger purchase will be a dehydrator (for veggies and meat) big enough to fit a 35th scale airplane in. Crazy isn't it how much humidity can affect our hobby. Don't feel bad, you figured out the issue, owned up to the community like a champ and adapted. The newer paint chemistry's can give alot of headaches with the different conditions the world lives in. Florida is a subtropical rainforest, and every home has an a/c that removes humidity as best it can. Funny, its never enough to get my paint conditions anything like my Atlanta or Chicago friends 😜. Keep your chin up and always appreciate the videos and the Patreon content. ☕🐢

It is ridiculous that a portion of this hobby feels like they have to swear allegiance to a brand of paints. You have so many sponsored influencers ready to tell you this or that newest paint product will straighten your teeth and clear your complexion, and if you have an opinion to the contrary based on your actual hands-on use with the stuff, you must clearly have an axe to grind.

There's nothing wrong with disliking, or finding that a paint others love isn't for you. Your duty in reviews is to tell us how you feel based on your experiences, so I'm not sure the hate valid. That having been said, seeing and showing what you may have have done wrong, or at least could have done better is a bold mea culpa not many people do. Good on you for that. We all have personal preferences and bias that affects our hobby, and no amount of brow-beating is warranted or effective in changing that; I, for example, think Pro Acryl are some of the worst paints I've ever used, but that's clearly only true for me and my style. That's just the nature of almost any creative hobby. On an only slightly related note: a few years ago you did a video where you mentioned Green Stuff World paints, and gave them middling reviews (which was fair). Since then they've changed the paint formulation with their new Maxx Formula (everyone in this industry insists on goofy names I guess), and I have to say, they've blown me away with the vibrancy and coverage now. Not suggesting a video or anything, just saying you might want to give them a second look, I think they're worth it. Also their Metallic Filters paints are limited in their use, but a lot of fun in the right situations. Kinda rambled in this comment here, sorry. Thanks for the videos over the years.

I've had my first experience with the Fanatics today and I was honestly surprised how much I like them. First off, I don't thin them a lot, usually just a bit of moisture in my brush and they have a consistency that reminds me of AK paints. The coverage and amount of control I have over where the paint goes is pretty amazing to me. The drying time seems pretty normal to me for acrylics. Not shorter or longer than other brands I've used. I think a lot of people who try these paints for the first time try to use them the way they are used to from other brands and over thin their paint a bit. This is just my experience with them so far and we'll see how things develop as I use them more, but so far I am loving them.

@@Bloodfencer1990 Well, first of all I do not want to be a fan of a paint at all 😁 Because that's just it, a paint. And there is an issue of value. I do not see it in any way beneficial to run after each and every "new thing". Like, I have my Vallejo paints and AK paints, so then Duncan Rhodes releases a new paint line, and then we have something new from ProAcryl, and then from Green Stuff, and then Fanatic paint line. Whaaaat. If I am a 'tuber, who got his promo boxes, then yeay, I can experiment. Or if I am a professional painter who paints for money, new tools - new possibilities. But as a "hobby after work" painter? Thank you but no thank you 😁 I will stick with Vallejo and AK, because NEW paints are not BETTER paints, especially when you are used to the ones you paint with for years.

Hi Lyla, thank you for your videos. Not only this one, but I seriously developed a passion for mini painting due to your content. I am making progress thanks to you and your videos, as well as other mini painters like you. As someone who gets nosebleeds easily when the air is too dry I'm probably going to invest into a humidifier next winter. Right now I am not looking forward to summer because then I will have the opposite problem and my German butt does not have air-conditioning. I am very sorry for your losses and hope you and your family got the help you needed and probably still need. I am myself struggling with various mental health issues which are a mess. That said, Better Help has its criticism. I'm happy if you were able to find help through them, I just wanted to put it out their that I heard mixed things, from their therapists to the general layout of the system and I think they used AI at some point of the screening process/general chat? As for Army Painter: I'm happy to use their other stuff like basing materials, and from the videos and tests I've seen other creators put out I will give their paints a try eventually. I just plundered my mini budget for the next two months by buying the Bloodborne Board game and its extensions so that might take a while. And as an idea for a video that might be a bit research intensive: statues from classical Antiquity (e.g. Western) were often brightly painted despite often thought to be just white. I think it might be a fun idea to replicate one or two styles of them in modern mini painting. I remember you painted a 3D printed bust (?) once that reminded me of a Roman or Greek sculpture but can't for the life of me find it again. Otherwise, other historic techniques for mini painting is always fun. What can I say, I am a history nerd.

another point for changing your palette after a while: even if it keeps your paint workable and succesfully prevent drying, oftentime there is a change in texture and/or quality over time. The most common issue when I keep a palette set for long is paints that are a mix of pigments tend to separate and are rendered unusable. And remember: the more thinly you spread it on the palette, the quicker it dries, if you plan to use one color a lot, keep it as a big fat dollop as much as possible.

Even better than a humidifier, that can lead to mold, buy some retarder. Both GOLDEN and LIQUITEX both have excellent formulas. and use Flow Improver from either company, they're far better than thinner as they don't "break" the paint and they maintain the emulsion of color particles, even if you add more than you intend.

Any non toxic ideas how to get rid of the paint on the models. Finally I‘d like to have the bare unpainted metal with all the details, so I could repaint them. Perhaps removing paint from mini‘s is an idea for a new video. Thanks in advance!

I bought the 50 paint set and found that the fanatic paints dry insanely fast even in my humid environment. It is annoying that they kept some of the same names for paints that do not match their war paints. The fanatic line appears to have a lot of opaque pigments in it…maybe white? This makes them quite pastel across the line of paints. Reds are quite blah. Not many dark colors either. All that said, I do like them and they have a place in my painting approach.

more and more creators claim that Fanatics are not really saturated as far as colors go (which is not necessarily bad for miniature paints), meaning opacity is likely due to mixing in some white/black pigments. Can you confirm?

Hey, I'm glad you figured out one factor that changed your opinion on the paints and you made a video pointing it out. I've been watching your content and I really like it, keep it up. Hope everything gets better soon.

I haven't always agreed with you, but you are a damned good painter. I only wish I was half as good as you are. Pretty sure most of the ones "calling you out" couldn't paint a color by number, much less what you do.

I noticed your wet pallet sponge appeared to have absorbed paint water. Do you ever have any crossing over into the paint ? The few times ive done it i immediately rinsed the sh*t out of it super hot water made sure it ran clear. Just wondered if that is really necessary.

It is great that you look at other factors that affected your work and revisit them. I finally figured out what made me hesitate to give a glowing review of fanatic paints: they are a Gouache paint. White mixed in to cover well but desaturated a bit. Excellent for the first coat but need to break out the artist (single pigment) paints for wet blending and final highlights.

I honestly still feel army painter is just barely doing what all others have been doing for years. A huge improvement from what they were, but still average. The two things are color variety and easier approachable and really no need for color mixing, especially by non painters. Second is that the paint is a jack of all trades style paint, which is also great for beginners who have not found their preferred style of painting.

The draw and dot tests.. Why hasn't anybody given me such straight forward tips before?! Just saying "thin your paints appropriately" isn't very helpful.

Here's a tip. The game envy hobby holder is too light imo. it tips over too easily. unscrew both screws on the handle and fill up each side with hot glue. re-screw the screws to close the halves back together and the problem is solved.

I live in Arizona. My air is dry as shit. I have 0 problems with Vallejo, AK or Pro Acryl - all of which are better paints any way. Having to buy a humidifier to make AP’s cheap paints work well is just silly.

Yeah, I'm none too fond of their paints either. They're OK, I guess, but I'm a Vallejo kinda guy here most of the time. But I also use Formula P3 and have since the beginning, and oddly enough? AP makes their paints too, I've heard, which is weird because to me they're like night and day.

I live in a coastal area in northern Europe. There is a lot of rain and misery. I get issues even with Vallejo and AK during the colder months despite this. Indoor to outdoor temperature differences mess a lot with how moisture behaves.

I left the hobby 20 years ago and I am now getting back into it. It got me through some tough times but the people doing the hobby were weird, mainly men who acted like little boys and would freak out at the mere look at a female in the hobby, all crowding around them. I found it really weird to see. I hope the hobby has changed. I used to do some miniature work for film. But my main bread and butter was lighting for film and TV.

I just put the "problems" you had in that video down to working with a paint you weren't all that familiar with. Nothing to do with your skill or talent. Keep up the great work.
