Level 1: Corneria; former military base; entry of Star Fox: Called in as reinforcements by the incompetent General Pepper and his army of broken arms, Star Fox enters this first level. Corneria, a planet similar to Earth, has been invaded by the robots of the scientist Andross. After the usual technical checks, Fox and his team-mates set off to attack the enemy forces. Unfortunately, the novice Slippy Toad is immediately hunted down by an enemy ship (05:00) and only saves himself thanks to Fox's selfless intervention (05:06). After taking out a couple of hysterical robots busy knocking down entire skyscrapers, causing the horrific deaths of their inhabitants (05:46), this time Fox has to come to the rescue of Falco Lombardi, whose G-diffuser has suddenly broken down (06:26), even though he was supposed to have controlled it at the start of the mission (04:04). Later, impressed by Fox's manoeuvres over a lake, Falco guides his boss towards the real Boss of the level, a horror of some sort that vaguely resembles Wario, a far cry from the simple walking robot that is the second-tier boss (07:38) and would have had to be faced had Falco not been rescued earlier in the level. Fox, despite the fact that his team-mates are content to fly around stupidly without taking any action, preferring to wait stupidly for the sky to fall on them, or better still: to collide with Fox himself, manages to blow up the boss in a gigantic firework display. Level 2: Meteo, Asteroid Field: Star Fox plunges into an asteroid belt, despite Slippy's idiotic comments, promptly scolded in a humiliating manner by obese old man Peppy Hare. After breaking through an initial barrier of space rocks, Fox has to deal with an initial wave of enemies and then avoid some larger asteroids. After rescuing Peppy and destroying other unassuming enemy squads, Fox sees Falco boasting that he has helped him, when in fact he has not (14:46). He then has to save Slippy (15:11), who is strutting around with three opponents behind him, not even realising that his Arwing's energy is running low! Finally, Fox uses a "Warp Zone" that causes his aircraft to spin so much that he has to use some of the bags provided. This gives him access to a level full of bonus items and, above all, allows him to avoid the pathetic boss at the end of the level - a kind of ugly, stupid macaque. Sector Y; Fierce Melee: Overwhelmed by events, Pepper (who we're beginning to wonder how he ever got promoted to General despite such incompetence) is still begging Fox to come and save him and his ridiculous fleet! Star Fox lands in an incomprehensible space melee. After destroying several enemy waves and saving the incompetent Slippy once again, Fox has to defeat two space robots on dopamine! But that was just a warm-up: the real boss shows up, but is immediately pulverised by Fox. Meanwhile, as usual, Fox's team-mates flutter around like useless butterflies... 3rd level: Fortuna; Star Wolf entry: Landing on the planet, Fox and his team literally pick off enemy ships coming out of a friendly base in the centre of the map. As Rob64 announces that a bomb is preparing to blow up the base, the Star Wolf team and their Wolfen I go on the attack but are easily pulverised by Fox, who quietly defuses the bomb. He then has to put up with Slippy's idiotic remark that "we" have succeeded, while Fox's team-mates have spent the entire mission being shot at and crying out for help! Katina; Reunion: Reunited with an old friend, Bill Grey, Fox has to put aside his nostalgic tears to destroy a series of enemy ships that have come to attack the planet Katina. Ruthlessly slaughtering Bill's soldiers, who serve no useful purpose other than to rush Fox, Fox is surprised to see a mother ship appear out of nowhere to flood the area with enemy ships. Finally, just as everything is about to explode, Fox destroys the mother ship and saves the day, despite his team-mates constantly getting in his line of fire! Aquas; Ocean Planet; Underwater Terror: Fox has to destroy Andross's biological weapon and finds himself in command of a submarine submerged in an immense ocean covering the entire planet. Fox's three team-mates have clearly realised that they are completely useless, and have remained wisely in the warmth of the mother ship, content to comment on Fox's progress. After destroying the planet's fragile ecosystem with heat-seeking torpedoes, Fox finally stumbles upon the boss: a giant oyster (!) The "monster", as fast as a hundred-year-old slug (what a threat!) is quickly reduced to ashes by Fox, who returns to the ship, having probably had enough of hearing Slippy congratulate himself on the design of the "Blue-Marine" submarine, for which he takes all the credit. 4th level: Sector X: Space Base Mystery: After the failure of the previous mission, Star Fox is forced to deal with a mysterious "secret weapon" designed by Andross. Smashing several hordes of large but unassuming ships to smithereens, Fox soon finds himself having to rescue Peppy from a number of enemies eager for a good stew with sauce. In the end, the secret weapon turns out to be a ridiculous robot with a poor disc repeating the same two phrases over and over again. Fox manages to destroy his enemy, although he was no doubt tempted to let Slippy be hit by the said machine so that he could be sent to the planet Titania... and die there... Solar; the frying pan: Clearly exhilarated by his victory in the previous mission, Star Fox has the brilliant idea of cutting through the star of the Lylat system to save time. We'll leave it to you to evaluate the brilliant idea of flying within a few metres of a star... Throughout the mission, Fox's team-mates lose energy every time they speak. Would they have the presence of mind to keep their mouths shut so as not to endanger themselves? You'd think! The fact remains that Fox, once again on his own, defeats the boss at the end of the level; a sort of creature with flimsy arms who spends more time roaring than acting! Zoness: Toxic planet; the post-invasion: Having, to everyone's delight, consigned the old, antediluvian tin can that served as his submarine during the previous mission to the scrap heap, Fox takes the controls of his Arwing and lands, with his team-mates fresh as a daisy, on a despicable planet covered in a greenish ocean. Trying as best he can to destroy the billions of searchlights that threaten to reveal Star Fox's position, and (for once) to save Slippy, Fox is pleasantly surprised to see out of nowhere some kind of hussy in a fuchsia ship who turns out to be one of Falco's old booty calls - a pink cat called Kate Monroe! In the end, Fox literally destroyes the boss at the end of the level (a horrible man who looks like a garden gnome) and everyone leaves the planet for the next mission.

Level 5: Titania; in search of Slippy: Having wanted to show off by trying to destroy the end-of-level boss in the Sector X combat zone, the inarticulate Slippy and his cheap fighter plane have been sent to the planet Titania! Rather than take the opportunity to declare Slippy dead, the team sets out to rescue him. Encased in an old World War II Panzer-style tank, Fox - after enduring Falco's childish quips - finally finds the imbecilic, impotent toad who serves as his team-mate, after many adventures on this anecdotal desert planet. Slippy has found nothing better to do than to literally throw himself into the clutches of a mutant scorpion. Once again, when Fox and his team could have simply put their toes up and quietly admired the spectacle of seeing Slippy, screaming in pain and despair, being eaten alive by the creature, his arms and legs slowly torn off and his brain brutally perforated by the monster's teeth, Fox decides to save him! Once the thing has been destroyed, Peppy and Falco lecture Slippy (undoubtedly including a spanking) and then the whole Star Fox team heads for a vile, gigantic satellite. Macbeth: Enemy ammunition depot: the eternal train: At the helm of his discount tank, Fox, accompanied by his companions who have preferred to take to the skies, attempts to strike a blow at the enemy, one of whose bases is located on the small planet Macbeth. Instead of taking the opportunity to revise a few classics of Shakespearean literature, Fox sets about destroying one by one the countless carriages of a slow-moving train, which eventually leads him to a set of eight switches that Fox has to fire in order to alter the trajectory of the train, which, carried away in its momentum by the ill-considered orders of the infamous boss who pilots a ridiculous kite-like robot, is going to crash at full speed into the refinery. The collision causes an explosion that would make Krakatoa's volcano blush, atomising - and even 'quarcking' - the entire base! It's an opportunity for Fox's team-mates, who, as usual, have not done their homework, to strut their stuff and shout victory from the rooftops. Sector Z: Great-Fox under attack! Lost in the middle of space, Fox and his sidekicks suddenly find themselves caught in an ambush worthy of a school playground! Andross has decided to target the team's mother ship with no fewer than six (!) missiles: only problem: the missiles are moving as fast as Jeanne Calment in the last forty years of her life! As a result, even Fox's team-mates (and Katt Monroe, if you're from the planet Zoness) have no trouble picking up the said missiles; that's saying something! What's more, rather than sending all the missiles at once in the direction of the Great Fox, with the strategic and legitimate hope that at least one of them will hit its target, the idiot in charge of operations - whose name and face we don't know - prefers to send them one by one, thereby ensuring a resounding and humiliating failure. In any case, you have to wonder why Andross wanted to waste time, material, energy and money destroying a ship as ridiculous, ineffective, dusty and ugly as the Great Fox! 6th level: Bolse: Defence Satellite: The Final Mission: Armed with enormous self-confidence, Fox and his friends arrive on top of a gigantic satellite supposedly guarding the entrance to the planet Venom. We'll overlook the implausibility of such an installation. The fact remains that Star Fox has to waste precious time destroying a kind of energy shield that protects the satellite's central unit. Once this is destroyed, the area is invaded by enemy ships, all chasing after the moronic Slippy! To top it all off, Star Wolf (if they haven't been killed off on Fortuna) join in the fray. Finally, Fox manages to blow up the satellite in yet another Plinian explosion! Area 6: Zone of defence; it's a case of break or bust! Lost in the middle of space, the supposedly invincible fleet of Andross, the supposedly impregnable bastion that is supposed to defend Venom's airspace, is strutting around, convinced, according to the idiot second lieutenant with the crocodile face who is partly in charge of operations, that everything is fine. He barely has time to say these words when Star Fox comes out of nowhere and pulverises several ships, causing indescribable panic among the Venomian fleet. A gigantic battle ensues, during which Fox has to save Falco (who is being chased by an entire space division after about twenty seconds of the mission and who doesn't even bother to thank Fox for his intervention) and Peppy (who is being chased by explosive missiles and who complains about Fox's alleged slowness in coming to save him, even though Fox managed to destroy the threat in less than three seconds) and Slippy (too busy informing us of Venom's presence, right in front of us, even though it occupies around 90% of the screen - only a blind man hadn't noticed it yet - and an enemy behind the toad is quietly destroying his Arwing). Finally, the two incompetents, who have spent the entire mission marvelling that Star Fox was able to cut through their fleet as easily as a hot knife through an old lump of butter, unleash their ultimate weapon on the mercenary team: a saucer-like creature with tentacles and energy balls to destroy. Despite the use of a multicoloured ray, which Fox easily avoids as the charge time is so long, the defeat of this boss is inevitable and occurs in a new thermo-nuclear explosion. 7th level: Venom 1: After destroying the defence satellite, Star Fox finally lands on Venom. Greeted by tens of billions of enemy ships, Fox and his cohorts make their way across the planet with relative ease before landing in some sort of despicable temple in which a stone robot is jogging! The robot simply runs away from Fox, making you wonder what kind of threat it poses. However, believing that the marathon has gone on long enough, Fox pulverises the monster and then goes off alone to confront Andross. Andross turns out to be a pitiful, poorly-designed robot with floppy ears that make him look like a cross between Gremlins and Cortex the mouse from Animaniacs. In the end, the robot explodes like a bottle of champagne in a freezer and Fox gets mixed praise from his team. Venom 2: Thinking he could take on Andross without having to lift a finger, Star Fox is quickly disillusioned when the entire Star Wolf team arrives, decked out in new 2.0 ships. Equipped with a dual-firing system and shields, Wolf and Co. present an amusing little challenge for Fox for a few seconds, but he manages to wipe out the four thugs with little difficulty. He then attacks the psychotic scientist, making his way through the maze that leads him to this final enemy. After destroying his hands and face, Fox finds himself facing a brain and eyes! He has no trouble destroying Andross's slimy, filthy cerebellum. Vexed at having been defeated in this way, the simian scientist prepares to self-destruct in a colossal explosion, taking Fox to his death. At this point, Fox, having obviously consumed some strange mushrooms, puts together a real scenario in which his father guides him to the exit. Fox escapes in extremis, while the planet's underground explodes with the force of a supernova!

The reason for Star Fox 64 to be called Lylat Wars in Europe was due to a copyright issue that Nintendo had with another company that had Star Fox trademarked in Europe at the time.
