I've owned a '19 1LT C-7 since '21 and absolutely love the car.. While in San Diego last month I rented a '24 1LT C-8 through Turo that had 5K miles on it. I had the car for 5 days and it cost 200 bucks more than a Camry, total! Three observations from me. I'm 6'3" and to me, it was a little more difficult to get in and out of than my C7. My girlfriend and I thought the cabin noise at 70 mi an hour was louder than my car. Finally, the storage was way less than my C7. I'm a golfer and if we're traveling with my clubs, she's going to have to leave her luggage at home, haha! The C-8 is definitely fast, I just read an article yesterday that they are depreciating faster than C-7's percentage wise. Perhaps the last front engine Corvettes might have some collector value down the road. The C-8 is a great car but I'm sticking with my C-7.

We love our 2023 3LT HTC non-Z51 Arctic White with magnetic ride, front lift, performance exhaust, front splitter, black exhaust tips, two tone (black/red) interior and carbon flash painted top, nacelles, low spoiler, mirrors, intake blades, and wheels is the perfect car for us. We will never track it and it’s capable of more performance than we will ever need. Our 2nd Corvette and the best vehicle this 76yo has ever driven. I am 6’2” and 220#, the C7s I drove felt very cramped. Our HTC doesn’t transmit any mechanical noise from the engine and we can roll down the rear window so the music from the performance exhaust can easily be heard even with the top up. I am really happy with this vehicle and glad I bought it.

My Corvette buddy has a C8. I agree the seats in the 8 are superior to my 7. I do prefer the style of the C7 over the C8 because the C7 reflects the curved body design of the C5 and C6. For me the Corvette heritage is important. In time I got over the oval tail lights of the C5 (had 2 of them) and the fixed head lights of the C6. The lines of the C8 are more "angular" and sharp. I imagine in time I'll get over that too.

My take is that my C7 is more fun to drive but the C8 is much more comfortable for me as far as leg room goes. I’m 6’3” and feel somewhat cramped in my C7. I can stretch my legs out fully in the C8. That would have been nice on the Corvette Caravan that we just completed. I’m currently working on the finances to allow me to keep my C7 and buy a C8. Two Corvettes is better than one! By the way Lyle, I had my picture taken with you at the 2023 Corvettes at Carlisle to show my friends how “short” I am.

Lyle, your sons take on the C8 is just exceptional. To paraphrase, rather than quote, he feels that the C8 is a better car, but not a better Corvette. Lyle, I agree with your son. My 19 GS, at 51K miles, is pure joy to drive and I am very comfortable (6' 4" and 230 lbs) in it. On the other hand, I find your comments concerning your size and how you fit in a C8 amazing. When I sit in a C8 with the seat adjusted to my comfort, my head hits the coupe cross brace and the seat bolsters are too tight. A limited test drive is the best I can do in a C8, while my GS is comfortable all day long in 600+ mile drives. I am hopeful that the C8 interior redesign (2026?) will help as I would love to have a C8 GS (2026 or 2027) to join my 19 GS.

Hi Lyle, glad U & your son had a good time driving the C8. Does C&S do any mechanical work on C8's? You know there are a few of us that bought used ones and are out of warranty. I liked your review as it was a lot more realistic than the track testing and 30-minute drive reviews. Your son has a point. I'm in my early '70's. At 24 I started with a used '72 LT-1. It was a used race car & I had to rebuild it. Kept it 10 yrs. & 60k + miles. That car had factory A/C & a stitch welded frame & corner braces, F41, M22, J56 & factory side pipes. I was young and could put up with the rudeness. What a gas that car was! LOL Next in '05 I buy a '90 ZR-1 & I'm the 2nd owner @ 7400 miles. Joined the Registry and fixed all the issues mostly from sitting. That car was everything my LT-1 car wanted to be but couldn't. It was like comparing the space shuttle to a Sopwith Camel. I had the Z for 19 yrs. and 60k+ miles. Each car was sold due to stuff that needed to get done. Just this month I bought a 4800-mile 1 owner '21 3LT Z51 car. What little I have driven it, it makes my Z car look like the Sopwith Camel, and it seems by reading the FSM more complicated than the space shuttle. One thing though, the C4's were the last true analog corvettes, fwiw JMHO. I liked the C4 sport seats in the Z the best, although the comp seats in the C8 are a close 2nd. Save the Wave!

I really enjoyed your review. Lyle The main reason is because of your size. With the thousands of reviews that have surfaced since the release of the C8, yours is very unique from the driver's size and build point of view. Plus, your own ability to "drive" probably exceeds most of ours. So, your "testing" was probably a lot more thorough than most of ours would have been. Now, your son's analogy was very unique stating that he felt the C8 was a better car, but the C7 is a better Corvette. I can relate to that. Right from the get-go I've wanted a C8 mainly because of its design, let alone the fact that because it's a mid-engine, it's not truly in the supercar category. I can relate to a mid-engine in my own silly way, in that when I was a kid, I had some experience in driving go karts. Really driving them. Yeah, silly analogy I know. But having the engine in the rear was phenomenal! I can only imagine what driving an "adult" size rear engine car is like. Maybe someday. Save the Wave 🙋♂

At 6'2" and 250#, my Procharged C7 Z51 convertible barely fits me, but I scrunch and wedge myself in. I think they designed the C7 for someone 6' or less and 200# and under. There is NO WAY 6'11" is fitting in there! Even with the top down, your chin would be above the top of the windshield! My C4 base convertible had more hip and knee room, but I still felt I was just a bit too tall for it. I'm glad to hear the C8 has more room.
@richardelliott83522 ай бұрын
I am 6' 2" and was careful to make sure I fit inside a C5 . I didn't;t want another sports car where I had to duck down to see a traffic light because the window frame was in the way. A convertible C5 has the largest interior room of any corvette, and that statistic will probably stand for a long time.

I recently test drove a preowned 2023 C8 2LT Z51 with only 2100 miles. The dealer wanted $75k for it which is a good deal for a 2LT Z51 right now. Looked great, it's very fast, seats are comfortable and the interior is the best yet for the Corvette. You feel good behind the wheel. Unfortunately I didn’t really enjoy driving it. I was bored after about 5 minutes. I couldn’t hear much of the engine or the exhaust note, even in sport mode which surprised me. As good as the DCT is, the paddle shifters will never replace the enjoyment I get from the Tremec 6 speed in my 2022 Camaro SS 1LE. The C8 is a fantastic sports car, but it’s so refined and well mannered, I didn’t get the urge to buy one. Maybe the Z06 would change my mind but that is more than I want to spend on any one car. To me, my Camaro is so close to a C7 Grand Sport I don’t feel the need to make a change right now.

C5 TO 7 looks bertter no manual in c8 its a little to soft launch control is cool i agree with you msun about 7 is a better car but if you modify lighlty the 5 or 6 you will kill that c8 in a race. front engine corvette is where its at there is a reason why most have c8 and they kept their front engine cars the original and best driving experince.

In my observation and opinion, I feel the c5 is designed a little like the jag xke. Smother classic lines, of course with a little old school Ferrari thrown in. However the c8 i feel is a world competitor and has heavier design influence FROM Ferrari. It's my opinion. I still would like to get a cruiser c5 basic convertible for palm bay florida. Very comfortable car to sit in. What's your opinion?
@csvette3 ай бұрын
The C8 is faster/nicer/fancier car for sure. The C5 is better at being the cruiser that you mention as it is far less expensive to own and just a lot less complicated to operate. Like comparing a P-51 Mustang to an F-22 Raptor. If you are going to enjoy an afternoon flight in beautiful weather and actually FLY the aircraft, then the P-51 is your only choice. Lyle :)

At least GM identified and acted to resolve the issue this time, rather than gambling on the odds of a class action lawsuit being successful. The C7 years were filled with some pretty unforgivable engineering and performance failures that GM did its best to ignore or deflect blame elsewhere. Mistakes are forgivable if the offending party actively moves to remedy the situation. 😊

QUESTION FOR YOU LYLE, AND EVERYONE. HOW OFTEN DOES EVERYONE SEE A C4 ON THE STREETS? I SEE MORE C2, C3. THAN C4s. THESE CARS ARE GOING TO JUMP OVERNIGHT. YES, I KNOW ITS BEEN 30 YEARS......... IM STILL WAITING. NOTHING LIKE DROPPING THE TOP OF A C4 AND ENJOY THE FL SUN. MILES OF SMILES, TIL THE SHOWERS COME.
@csvette3 ай бұрын
@@Volkswagenplanet I see more really well-cared for C4’s on the summertime roads of the Midwest than I ever see here in FL. I think part of it is that being only seasonal toys up north, the C4 enjoys being “special” when it is out on the road. In the Deep South, Corvettes aren’t luxury seasonal toys… the C5 and later iterations are viable daily transportation year-round here, and for some people, their only car. Some of that has to do with the spatial and mechanical improvements that make them more viable than the earlier cars for daily use and some of it has to do with the C4 lacking some of the style and simplicity that the earlier generations featured. The C4 was and is a fantastic car in its heyday, but it finds itself very the forgotten middle child of the family today. That too, may change as young kids convert $3500 ‘86 Corvettes into track day toys and the hobby evolves…it will be interesting, for certain.❤️

@@csvette considering there will be quite a few off warranty C8’s. coming soon, there will be a service market for them opening up.
