I am fossil hunting along the Jurassic Coast looking for fossil sea urchins and ammonites. The October Half Term week has seen rough weather for fossil collecting, so i check the Lyme Regis beaches at low tide for fossil finds.There is a fossil collecting code of conduct in operation along the Jurassic Coast. I have been a Professional Fossil Hunter along the Jurassic Coast for many years. Remember the cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. Keep away from the dangerous cliffs, the best fossils are washed out onto the beaches at low tide, by the sea's actions. If you are going to hammer one of the right little splitting rocks on the beach at low tide, then I recommend wearing safety equipment. Wear safety spectacles and sturdy gloves when using a geological hammer. I don`t hit flint and chert rocks often, as they shatter like glass with dangerous splinters. I have to see something good to my knowledge protruding out of the stone, to consider tapping a fossil out of flint or chert rock. Look out for the slippery seaweed on the ledges and rocks.
