Have you ever had issues with Dielectric grease causing connection issues? I know that you maintain and change harness/electric products regularly. As a polaris tech I have seen a LOT of issues with polaris RZRS where the customers read on a online forum to pack their fuse boxes and relays/connectors with dielectric grease and having connection issues with relays/fuses later on. Most of these are on mudbuggies. But I have seen this issue with units used for trail/rock crawling as well. Love the vids!

Exciting build up. Question: When are the motors of these newly built bikes run-in and, for how long before let loose for high performance at the start of the first stage?
@greatfallskam5 жыл бұрын
Lyndon question about the dielectric grease. Does the grease attract dust and usual debris? If so how do you clean the dielectric grease from the Molex connectors. Do you also dip and cover the outside of the spark plug with dielectric grease?
@petermuller76875 жыл бұрын
I think we'd all really appreciate a bit more details as to why you choose which parts on the bikes, especially small things like the fork sleeves for example. Obviously that's a bit late seeing how the bikes are now all built, but maybe when you rebuild a different bike?

Just some questions: 1) How many liters in the fuel tanks? They seems small in front of the old Dakar bikes. 2 No water tanks in the motor guard? Five liters of water were mandatory in the old Dakar and they were stocked in the motor guard.
@magicferra8775 жыл бұрын
The tanks may seem small, but they have different shapes and positions than 20 years ago and they can carry 30+ liters (referring about the last models). You can easily find it on Google, the 2020 Rally KTMs have 31 liters fuel capacity. Talking about the water tank, if you stop the video at 17:20 you can see the plastic tank attached on the bashplate, right where it should be.
@supraman1605 жыл бұрын
The fuel is spread out . the reat frame is actually a 15 or 16 l tank , and up front theres something close to 10l each side... just isnt as bulky up top to allow greater mobility on the bike similar to a narrow dirt bike.
@msrx085 жыл бұрын
Ok, thank you, I did see the white part but didn't know it was the water tank.
@msrx085 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lyndon, 32 liters is a huge amount of fuel (my motorbike tank is 9 liters only) but the old Paris-Dakar bikes brought more than 50 liters, if I remember well. Maybe the stages are shorter in the Africa Eco Race?

Cool. Not sure I'm down with dielectric grease though. Seems counter intuitive. What is the tire plan and mousse or tubes? Cheers from Canada 🍁 🍁 🍁
@CraigOverend5 жыл бұрын
So long as the pressure at the mating surfaces of the connector is adequate to push the low viscosity dielectric grease out there shouldn't be any problems unless using high frequency and the dielectric acts like a capacitor, else high current where there's potential for arcing and carburization of the grease.
