chit chat on dating, love & relationships. this video is sponsored by Squarespace. Go to squarespace.com... for 10% off!
as I continue this journey of unlearning societal conditioning, i'm realizing that like with most topics, my views on dating & relationships are a bit different from what i've been taught to believe. i'm beginning to realize that we make dating and relationships less enjoyable by hyperfixating on the future outcome of them. instead of living in the moment, we often hold onto the idea that anything good has to last forever, and cause ourselves more suffering when experiencing romance. in this chit chat, i talk about how i've begun to rewire my brain to rethink love & actually enjoy dating.

@@sunbeam9222 I don’t think there’s much idealization for long term relationships but more so unrealistic standards and expectations. There’s nothing wrong with wanting long term relationships but both men and women have flawed and unrealistic expectations/standards when it comes to them. Many people are emotionally and mentally ready to commit to one which either results in a breakup or in a unhealthy toxic relationship like you mentioned your parents were in.

Omg I needed this video honestly. After 6 years of obsessing over finding "true love", I found myself putting others before me all the time. Once I stopped looking for love, I found it within myself. And I came to enjoy the individuals God has placed in my life. The key is to stop being obsessed with finding love.

No one said you have to be with so many people. If you find the right person the first try, then that is great. But, trying so hard to just be with one person, will sometimes be the reason you stay in relationships that aren’t for you or that you’ve outgrown.

Honestly I can understand your perspective because it’s become very trendy or normalized to keep an open mind and kinda nonchalant energy when it comes to dating but I do think that it’s coming from folks who may be in a completely different reality. Being discerning in the dating phase really helps with only connecting with people you appreciate and not allowing your energy to be so convoluted and spread out to connections that you don’t genuinely care for. I feel like connecting with a greater purpose or love in general helps but doesn’t always mean you gotta allow people into your space. Sorry if I’m off but I defs had phases where I tried dating in a superficial way like just to have fun or make memories but I realized over time that was not the vibe for me at all and that’s okay

this came at such a perfect timing - I`m in the middle of a breakup with a man I love dearly but we just want completely different things in life, so to stay honest with ourselves and do the best for the other person, we decided to go on separate paths - it`s hard now but in long term I know we will both be happier this way

Hey I'm going through the same thing right now But I just can't bring myself to breakup. I think I'm a little codependent on him but I really wanna break the cycle and end it because it isn't healthy for me anymore. He's going to settle abroad and he's never coming back here so there's no point of long distance relationship. But I don't get why he never supports the idea of breaking up. He's leaving in less than a month, but he acts like everything is alright in our relationship, it makes me think he didn't really care about our relationship in the first place to feel bothered by it falling apart.

@@Nancy-gr6db I think it`s just denial because breakups are hard. I don`t know him but men have a weird way of dealing with emotional things like this. My BF insisted we give it another shot, called crying every single day - so now we`re back in the big mess! It`s so hard to understand what goes in their head because they were thought to repress emotions their entire life. Don`t be too hard on him because I`m sure he cares a big deal! Wish you the best!

Practicing non attachment is so important in relationships, in my opinion. Coming from someone that is married and has two kids all before turning 23…. I have realized that a lot of what I’ve done relationship wise was based in fear. Now that I’m approaching 26 and really establishing what I truly want I can understand relationships in the same light as you. Cheers to Venus in Aquarius ❤ lol

I completely agree that a lot of relationships/friendships can have an expiry date and they are really all about learning more about yourself and how to love yourself and the people around you more (and pinpointing what you want in a person/relationship). I do believe in marriage though as I feel when two people are committed to unconditional love and devotion to one another, if both parties have the capacity for forgiveness, love, accountability and growth, their is exponential growth that you wouldn't be able to experience with someone who your not truly committed or devoted to. I think for some ( not all) relationships, it can be really easy to give up and go your separate ways instead of confronting the problem and taking a hard look at yourself, it's also hard to love someone who isnt making you feel good atm. But having that commitment to someone and saying, 'your worth it' even in the hardest of times I think can be such a beautiful thing - of course this is only realistic/possible for those who aren't in toxic/abusive relationships, of course leave what's not serving you. I would say though, whether or not your into monogamy, the most important thing is getting a clear understanding of what you are looking for in a relationship/person and what your values are so when you meet someone you are not on different pages.

Wow this video is great. I’m 29 now and I’ve been in a relationship for almost 11 years. For the first time I’m ready to walk away from this connection that isn’t getting better and is coming to an end. We’ve changed so much and it’s been scary to think of being “Alone” or “starting over” or just worrying about if I’m making the “right” choice. I’m trying to learn to trust myself and the unknown. I think i held on to the idea of what we can be and what i NEED us to be rather than what it is and I’m seeing that that’s still okay.

I agree & completely understand how you're feeling because I experienced this in my previous relationship. It took me a year to build the courage to end a relationship that had ended awhile back. I questioned myself for so long; I was afraid I'd regret it, afraid that I'd miss him too much, afraid of just the thought of him moving on eventually. I had all these fears and doubts that kept me in a relationship past its end date. Just like you I feared being alone because being in a relationship for so long all you know is that person; and the thought of being alone is debilitating. Similarly, we were no longer the 19 & 21 year olds we once were; we grew apart & although the love was still there; we both knew it was over. I am 30 years old & single for about 5 years now. We don't know eachother but your comment resignated with my own experience. Whatever decision you choose Maria, I'm sure it'll be a great decision for you & your wellbeing.

this was such an expansive perspective of love & dating! i can 100% relate to those who have made their partner part of their own identity - after a few years of being single i’ve come to understand all the love i was lacking in my long term relationship. now, i find so much love in community, in family, in experiences. i completely agree with the notion that it’s okay not to take everything so seriously to the point where you need it to last forever ; the purity of the experience is more than enough 💗

That way, like you said, it’s easier to let go as you can always resort back to the happiness you had before. I struggled with this in the past, and it’s easier said than done to say the least.

Ok can we be best friends? I’m definitely on that frequency even though I’m in a 13 yr marriage with 3 small kids and being a soloprenuer. Losing someone isn’t isolated to dating, sometimes our partners go through changes where that same experience happens within a marriage. Learning to accept space and set stern boundaries within a long term union is really important. I’m learning so much in this time - coming back to myself, honoring where he is at and not pushing him to grow, coming back to myself while not being overcome with anxiety about the future. Practicing non attachment in a marriage is just as necessary as in the dating phases. Honoring the seasons of love is HARD and people don’t talk about the winter in marriage enough. Thank you for these videos! It’s awesome to feel your energy and know I’m not alone on this frequency plane🙏🏻❤️

You are so lucky to have this understanding some people live their whole life not understanding that it’s totally ok that relationships don’t last forever and that’s ok. The past year I've been grieving the loss of my ideas around marriage. I've been obsessed with weddings & planning my own wedding since I was 3 or 4 years old, and only now, after having been in a long term relationship with someone who I was initially planning on marrying am I coming to terms with the idea that actually I don't think marriage or anything that even vaguely looks like the monogamous, domestic, lifelong, romantic relationship is for me. I just want to live by myself but also in community.

I’m currently in a relationship w/ someone that I have an attachment to yet know I don’t want to be with never really fell in love with. He’s the type of man I know I can call on if I’m ever stranded on the side of the road but also has anger issues and shows signs that he might hit me one day… and I guess sort of has put his hands on me. So this came at the perfect time🙃

This came out the right time… even if it’s 13 days ago, it’s been a constant thought how and why it’s promoted that we only have one soulmate, twinflame, etc etc.. I’ve finally got rid of that negative mindset (in my opinion) and instead of waiting for “the one” I am open to anyone that is compatible to me mentally instead of physical, ex: if they’re a good listener and enjoys my company I’ll see where it goes vs me only seeing them physical and by passing how we have nothing in common just to say I’ve meet the one. It’s crazy how I had to remind myself that this is another human being and not some addition to what can make me happy. Thank you for this video 🙏.

I agree with all you said in your video. At the moment, I'm in my first serious relationship and I've experienced so many good and bad things. Since my boyfriend is more experienced on relationships and sex, I'd so many insecurities and jealousy. But after I started accepting the idea of its end, I felt so relieved and grateful that I'm not longer trying to over control things so they can look perfect. So I'm feeling at pace and more content with my relationship now even if it doesn't last forever 🙂🙂

I love the way you phrase things Lynette! I had to pause and write down "We sometimes get so focused on feeling good when we're experiencing things that we're afraid of experiencing the duality that comes with love. To be able to experience love means that you are also able to experience pain, loss and heartbreak" - whew that hit home!! Lol if I could ask for some advice, I've been casually getting to know a guy for a while and think I secretly got too attached to the fantasy of a long-term relationship, but after an honest conversation, I am now having to accept the fact that he only wants a casual thing. I know I'd enjoy aspects of the casual-ness but part of me feels like I'll suffer more in the long run. Idk!

I finally made that phone call today, the one where I go no contact and the relationship is actually over. This person has been a good friend for many years of my life, but I know it’s been over for me for far too long. I’ve been scared to truly let go, so many fears holding me back. A couple months ago I really considered staying living with him forever because other people were happy, and I didn’t care about myself anyways. I still don’t believe the words I tell myself in the mirror. This way of thinking, of supporting and standing up for my wants and desires is forgein. The double standard I hold for myself (but would never expect of others) is insane. I’ve been binging your videos, and a couple other creators, and I just wanted to thank you for helping me through this very difficult time in my life. Shoutout my other Aquarian Venuses shawty, I feel you. I love how Lynette said she’s driven by passion and her mind can change because I relate to that so much. I have to remind myself that I’m ok with changing my mind even if other people judge me for not being committed to what I’ve said or wanted to do/become in the past. It’s ok to be as fluid as you are even when other people are more rigid. Love u.

I love this video. I'm moving soon and have been having a hard time with the idea of saying goodbye to my partner. This was reassuring. I also loved how you talked about the concept of having different soulmates throughout life. My venus is also in aquarius so I felt like I related and understood so much of what you were saying. I havent met many other women whos venus is in aquarisss, I love your content so much. Sending love

This was a really good conversation! I’m glad that you’re still open to love, regardless of past relationships coming to a close. I personally see love as a pure energy, but I don’t label pain as love; as that’s not what love is. I feel like love gets mislabeled; when it’s truly something else. Love is love and pain is pain. Those are just my thoughts though :)

It’s one thing to simply know it in your head about what you need in a relationship, it’s another to really deeply *feel* and understand just how complex people are and how complicated *relationships* in turn can be. I think as I get older and learn/experience things, it allows me to create more intentional, real, intimate (platonic AND romantic) relationships. Adding to this, I’m totally with you in the way that I don’t see my past “relationships” as failures, I definitely learned more about myself after it all and I don’t hold onto negative feelings or thoughts about them. I wish them the best always. And I think some people just don’t fully get it in the way some of their relationships have crashed and burned, and they still suffer from carrying around that bitterness.

Wow love this perspective. I agree that this whole thing around someone being forever and you spending most of your time with that person and all these checklists around how a good relationship should feel puts way too much pressure on dating 😌 again like most things , presence is the answer haha ❤️

It’s like god literally dropped this video in front of me🙏🏿-I totally agree with “everything has an expiration date” and as long I could remember I’ve always been able pinpoint when it was simply time to let go..but I’ve been dating the amazing woman for some time now and it’s like all of a sudden my judgement is clouded even though I know it’s time to let her go

This reality is strange, honestly usually watch gun videos, listen to a lot on stoner rock, subscribed to more "right" leaning channels..but have a strong interest / for the paranormal. I bring up because your video popped up as a recommendation. Its weird just got out of a long term relationship at the end of July. Aslo came really close to being killed in an motorcycle accident on the 4th....You said Aquarius, I'm 2,9,85. Don't know it helps but to you or anyone else. I strongly recommend listening to Sadhguru. Honestly learning a lot on how to be happy just by myself, and also learning that it is very important in knowing how to love yourself. Sincerely hope that you and everyone else finds whatever it is we are looking for ✌️ and good vibes. Hope everyone learns how to love again...and put the BS of separation based of believes, looks and political views behind us

I love the way you think; so in depth and out of the box. I'm the same way, and I'm just one of those ppl that goes out of my way to be different on purpose, so I often hate traditional ways of thinking on certain subjects. That explains your Aquarius (moon or rising you said? Lol). I'm an Aquarius. After talking to my therapist, I realized Idk exactly what kind of relationship I want. In my 30s with kids, I'm still figuring it out. But ultimately, I just want me and my kids to do whatever feels right and safe with us 🤷🏾‍♀️

I totally agree to that. We are not really made for lifelong monogamy. Actually I'm very open to polygamy and not only serial monogamy. We should all be more relaxed and get away from our egos, then also relationships are much easier and better. And as you said also being ok with and still love people and be grateful for them and the great time we had together. That's why I think still being friends with your exes is also very beautiful and I actually am still friends with all of my exes. ✨ Unconditional love and dropping the ego are the 2 big keys to live a happy life. ✨😊💖

This was so well needed Thank you, i recently came out this year and its my first year dating women and while it has been a great experience being authentic with myself as ive been dating women I have realized a lot of my motivations have been ego driven and thus it has been hard to let go of situations. But im working on it❤
