oh goddd the bed bug era !! the thailand views are so so gorgeous though 🥹 i resonate so much with your thoughts on passion. sometimes when you're in the throes of writing, it's hard to feel deeply and emotionally connected to the characters when you're also seeing flaws in the story as a whole... i'm always scared of losing passion for a book while writing it BUT you know my love for moths is DEEP ☺💛 having read a few drafts of the beginning, and now reading it again, i think you should be incredibly proud of what you've produced with this book!! ✨ agents should be snatching this UP or i will not know peace

KRISSS ahhh tysm 🥹 yeah it's so scary to find yourself knee-deep in a book and then be like ?? but I'm definitely finding my love for this project again!! fingers crossed that querying is not a nightmare haha

I love that it's universal that cats will always sit on our laptop keyboards 🤣 so sorry you had a disastrous vacation, but I really resonate with how you were talking about passion and wanting to rekindle that passion for Moths, so thank you for sharing! ❤

I think the same thing about my book! I don't have any of those romantic feelings like "oh this is my dream book!" or "writing the book of my dreams" instead I'm like lol r we done yet. I'm sorry about all the things that happened on vacation :( I hope the rest of your trip is much better

hey, lynn! just wanna say that i got inspired to write again in my mid-20's because of your vlogs! it's so nice to learn & hear about writing as a craft from someone who seems so passionate about teaching it. best of luck to you & Moths; i'm really excited for your journey with this book! much love from the philippines

b-roll of thailand was so lovely !! and i can resonate with your dillemas with finding passion for Moths,,,when i hit dips in my projects i start to miss the full picture of why i'm writing it, and sometimes recalling the reasons for WHY don't pump me up the same way as they first did. on the other hand i get attatched to my main characters the more time i spend on them lol but somehow it's too easy for me to fall out of love with the story. i admire you for pushing through! thanks for sharing :)

I do enjoy Alix E Harrow's writing style - reminds me a lot of Gillian Flynn but with less dark themes. If you're looking for something similar try Catriona Ward (last house on Needless street is so eerie).

hello! just wanted to say as someone who got their agent from a published short story, you should absolutely try to sell project gold; if an agent or editor happens upon it, they could reach out to see if you have a short story collection or a long form project

that's super cool, congrats! i think my only qualm would be the fact that it ties in heavily to the novel's world and characters, and i do plan to pursue publication with that novel so /shrug/. i'm totally okay with it just being an exercise i keep to myself for now!

Ahhh, I love the cat cafe! How cute! 😻 I’m sorry your vacation was so disastrous. I really enjoyed seeing the footage of Thailand, especially the water/ocean shots. So pretty! 😍 I’m sorry you got sick and had so many issues with bedbugs. Definitely upgrade your mask and see if you can get some KF94 masks (I believe that’s an N95 equivalent) instead of the surgical ones and it might reduce your chances of being sick. There’s a lot of COVID/flu/RSV in all parts of the world right now. Very scary! You have such a passion for MOTHS and I really hope it gets you an agent and an editor at a publishing house snaps it right up. I love grad students and magic! I know you fear being perceived (me too, tbh)-but your passion for it shines and that’s what is most important. I also LOVE Sense8! One of my favorite shows! I would also recommend Raising Dion and Archive 81 (both on U.S. Netflix-don’t know if you can find them abroad) if you haven’t seen them yet! 🥰💜🩵 I’m sorry it took me so long to watch this!

Huh...you brought up some very interesting points with your mid-vacation rant. Actually, I think I can relate to what you said very much. When I was in elementary school I had two projects that I was absolutely obsessed with. One was called Snip (which was basically a rip-off of Sonic the Hedgehog, if all the characters were different colored variants of Snap from ChalkZone), and one was called Super Girl and Kitty Kong (which was basically Dragonball Z if the main characters were some weird fusion of Sailor Moon and Kiki's Delivery Service.) (Also, no, she has no relation to the actual Supergirl. Don't sue me DC plz, thx). Absolutely cringe, but I was with them. I'd make doodles of them, and draw little comics, and act them out. But with my current project, it's not really like that. Sure, I have a lot of fun with it, but I don't quite have that spark that I used to have, and I think that a lot of that is because I'm not (really) writing for myself anymore. This is a story that'll be viewed by people, critiqued by people, etcetera etcetera. And with that comes a lot of pressure, and that combined with the general disillusionment that a lot of us in our 20s/30s have with life in general just makes writing not the same. There was a KZbinr (I believe Jacksepticeye?) that I saw a clip of, and he (on the subject of him having "changed") said something along the lines of "You don't miss the old me. You miss who you were when I was making those videos then." And that really stuck with me. Because , we do have the power to make things like the old days. (Or at the very least, find a way to enjoy the current days...which someday will be the old days themselves.) We just have to find the right reason to. And being aware of that (and acting accordingly) is one of the best things that you can do for yourself as a creative, imo.

1k words a day sounds brutal to me. But I am happy for you getting some writing done in such a beautiful locale. Try not to read into the cosmic significance of bedbugs. 🎉🎉🎉

17:15 For a minute I thought you said "throat", and then I heard "vocal exercises", but my brain is going "wait ... how does reading the right books affect your voice"?? So please excuse my hearing loss, which is getting worse. I followed your vlog as best I could. :(

Yeah, when you read something you kinda get the vibes of the book and absorb it into your writing. At least that happens with me and her.

Congrats on surpassing 50k words!! ✨🫶🏼 also I love the idea of using a short story from a side characters pov to help you crack the world building. The cat cafe shots have me meltingggg so freakin cute. If only I wasn’t allergic lmao kinda want to go to one anyways
