Rachel S this is Jeff Yoder the ol'broke down scooter tramp, exbiker, Vietnam 🇻🇳 Era veteran, and I agree with your comments about lynrd skynrd 💯 percent and I'm thinking that the popularity still of most of the Southern Rock band s is still due to their pro American attitudes and older and newer fans they have who embrace and accept and adopt those pro American attitudes and I'm thinking 💭 all the venues where either the stars and bars flag (rebel flag ) and the American (red white and blue)flag, may both be hung side by side as a backdrop for the big name Southern Rock bands that are still touring around this country and beyond

I’m leaving this comment right as an important message to today’s generations: NEVER LET THIS SONG DIE! This is one of the greatest songs ever written and the guitar solo is unlike any other you’ll ever find. Music from the 70’s is in a league of its own and it saddens me today’s generations will never know that feeling. Fly high Lynyrd Skynyrd! ❤

I first discovered/heard Freebird when I went over to the U S on a training course for United States Surgical Corporation. It was 1978 the year my first son was born. Although the song had been released a couple of years earlier it was getting a lot of plays on American radio. It became my favourite song and still remains to this day one of the most played tracks. My second son was born 4 years later in 1982. Tragically he died on 13th July 2018 so now every time I play Freebird I imagine Andrew flying free as a bird, free from the depression and anxiety that caused him to take his own life.

And John G I'm very sorry 🙏 for your loss and hope it somehow helps to know that there are a lot of us who immediately lost our youth and naietivity all those years ago and I for one still have so many unanswered questions about just what did I do wrong by doing what I was raised and taught was my duty when I became an 18year old adult and and answered Uncle Sam's call for help and I might never understand why I have not been shown the same respect and recognition that the generations of veterans before and after mine have received for their service to this country the same way I served my country and yeah I may stay feeling disrespected and unrecognized for my service and I will live on feeling that only other veterans including those generations before and after mine will show my generation of veterans the respect and recognition that most of the people in this country do not show

I could watch this 500 times and it still gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. Probably the best Rock and Roll song of all time. Never forget seeing them live in Hershey PA. A former co-worker of mine was like a second dad to me and the only thing he told me was to get ready because he had a surprise for me. When we got to Hershey a bunch of cars were blaring Lynyrd Skynyrd and I got so excited. Rich and I went to a bunch of shows together. He passed away a couple of years ago. R.I.P. Rich. I'll always cherish the memories!

After all these years, cameraman STILL ignore the bass player on this song. Skynyrd’s original bassist, Leon Wilkinson absolutely drove this song. And his building riffs brought the electric solos to an awesome climax. Our band would always end shows with Free Bird. As the bassist, our lead singer & lead guitar player once told me that the BASS is really what makes this song great.

Unfortunately, the Skynyrd bassist did not want to be filmed. Second, it is not up to the cameramen to set up shots. That is the director's job in the control room. When one camera is hot, he would be setting up shots he wanted then directed the engineer to switch to what ever cam he called out.
