@kathyrais5742 жыл бұрын
And from all I have heard & read, there were no hard feelings when it came to playing leads. Allen & Gary basically learned to play at same time, taught each other before they were in band together, that's one reason they play off each other so well. Ironically, when Allen 1st started playing, he wanted to play rhythm guitar, not lead. Ed was great as well. They all did their thing & never stepped on toes, whatever was best for the band's sound. Then Steve came along, just as good IMO as Ed but he just didn't get the time to prove himself to the masses but he would have been huge. He sounded diff than Ed & brought vitality back to Gary & Allen. Everything was fresh again. He could also sing & write so triple threat. G & A were so happy when Steve joined, they went though songs, we did them as far as who would play what. It had been just the 2 of them after Ed left them high & dry so they were used to doin it all but they knew Skynyrd was it's best with the 3 guitar army & best 3 guitar army ever iMO. Love these guys
@dougpeterman94672 жыл бұрын
@@kathyrais574 Then you throw Steve Gains into the mix, and it's a complete tech nightmare. Gains was so far advanced except for Allen Collins, but they got along very well, as they saw a future for the band.

Thank you Bill Graham for giving us this amazing look into the past... Kids this is what a real rock n roll band looks like. Americana at its finest. Great music. I could watch this all night. I agree with you there son. Rossington played about all the memorable guitar licks and Collins would come in and play unmatchable 10 minute solos! I can't separate them in my mind...they play off each other like they're one. Like Jimmy Page with 4 hands lol. When I share my list of top guitarists, I always list Rossington/Collins as one. You can't have one without the other imo. Steve Gaines is great, but he's no Ed King. There's more to playing with Skynyrd than speed. I'm 60 and I never got to see them live and I've been a fan since they came out but I did get to meet Rodger Daltrey and John Entwistle right before they toured with Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1974 I think it was pretty cool my buddy and I just walking around Fresh Pond in Cambridge Massachusetts I guess Rodger Daltrey owns a home in Belmont Mass and me and my buddy carry who's actually a taking lessons to play piano back then he was only like 13 I was like 14 and I was just beginning to learn how to play the drums f****** how ironic you see these two brand new 12 gear bikes and we have never seen a 12 gear spocket on a 10-speed before I s*** you not that was something else in the ironic thing was that we didn't know who the who were we have no clue at the time were just kids I personally knew of traffic and Emerson Lake and Palmer and Aerosmith's I know who cream was actually had all these albums a bunch of other bands but I wasn't familiar with Lynyrd Skynyrd or the who yet you know we didn't know who Lynyrd Skynyrd was, we didn't know who the who was we hung out with them for an hour or two shooting the s*** and I think the reason they were so friendly to us and hang out with us like that is because we didn't know who they were so they weren't you know we weren't being fan fools you know pretty neat small world sometimes im teaching myself to play guitar I decided after all these years when I should have done it earlier but I'm not doing too bad I'v only been doing it like 8 months and I can already play that lead intro to the breeze which I'm very impressed by myself being able to do that it's such a short time and a bunch of other stuff but that's that's one of my favorite accomplishments on the guitar it's a lot of work but it's worth it never too late to learn how to play an instrument but it is time consuming and it's worth it I'm having a lot of fun after playing drums for years and being around other musicians and around its eyes all the time I learned a few things House of the Rising Sun couple scales but I never pursued it once in a while I pick up someone's guitar and poke on it. We got any good so I decided in on my old age I was going to teach myself to play it was a good idea I just wish I did it sooner

like with every famous singer there are likely many people right now who can sing exactly like him but there's always something that gets in the way of hiring the perfect replacement, in this case family. Right now there is at least one guy who can sing exactly like Layne Staley, Ive heard him on yt but for whatever reason AIC keeps the black guy who sings very well but sounds nothing like Layne. It's a shame, an established great band is a rarity and when a component is lost, the replacement should be as close to the original as possible, identical would be ideal.

THE best? ONE of the best, possibly... BUT, as 16 yr old, I sat at Jimi's feet, live at Woodstock...As well as Santana's "Soul Sacrifice"... AND Joe Cocker's "Little Help From My Friends"...ALL top this really good gig, to my ear (The Band also was amazing at Woodstock...Nothing I heard here compares to their performance of "The Weight"...) Look up "all the above" acts/tunes n you shall view/hear what I experienced at THE Woodstock Music and Art Fair...

@@petershort7580 Hendrix? You gotta be kidding. Hendrix was a flash in the pan. Why do you think he lit his guitar on fire? 2 hour guitar solos are boring. Watch 0:39:12 - T For Texas, and tell me where Hendrix is better. Every song here is better than "The Weight". Woodstock was an over-rated mess, doubt you were even there.

P.S., I am Not Taking Anything Away From Any other Guitar Player in the Band At All.. But Gary Rossington Has a Sound And A Way Of Playing That I Have Never Heard From Any Other Guitar Player on The Planet, Keep On Keepin On Gary, Regards, Cousin Figel

Here I go again, but this is the best live band I ever heard. I also remember playing in club bands, where you'd no more than hit the stage, until the crowd would shout,"Lynyrd Skynyrd, play some Lynyrd Skynyrd!" We would usually start with, "What's Your Name," then let nature take it's course!! Thanks Lynyrd Skynyrd, for allowing a lot of club bands to have fun, playing your music and keeping the dance floor flooded!!

The most underrated pure American band to ever grace the stage. In the shadow of the Allman Brothers, they were poised to be bigger than anyone who preceded them. Fate has a funny way of cementing legacies, this show on this night is a precursor to what they would have become. No other songwriter in the history of American songwriting could write for the common man like Ronnie could (maybe Tom Petty). Backed by 5 of the best band members who were akin to one another, I rest assured that there will never be another Skynyrd.
