I wonder what Ronnie would have said if someone had told him that night in 1976 that we'd still be listening to his music in 2024...? I can only imagine that his response might have been something like "They better be." Loved and missed, for sure. Thank you for posting this. Hugs

I met Allen in Dayton Ohio before a RCB concert . He immediately talked to me like I was his long lost best friend . He was such a good Dude . Seemed like we really hit it off and alot of the time he would put his arm around me if he happened to look at someone else to speak , like he didn't want me to get away. I invited him to my home for soup beans and cornbread and he said they had to leave right after the show or he would surely take me up on home cooking. He even showed me his glass eye , he lost in a go cart wreck after the plane crash . When I heard he had died it felt like I had lost a friend !!!!!!

I’m so grateful that I got to see Skynyrd at the Fairgrounds speedway in Nashville. It was Summer of 1976 on the One more From the Road tour. Seriously, the opening act was Point Blank, then 38 Special and then Ted Nugent. Skynyrd then ripped through the whole One More From the Road album. I still have all of my Ticket Stubs from back in the day before Ticketmaster. Back then it was Sound Seventy productions that sold the tickets. The Skynyrd ticket was only Ten dollars. Best Ten Dollars I ever spent!!!!

These boys are the best ever! They got there by hard work, practice, practice, practice and dedication. Donnie’s work ethic demanded perfection. I sure do miss them. Easy mistake Duron. Donny sang for .38 Special formed early 70s too and Johnny sang in the tribute Skynyrd band formed in 87 I think. 3 lead singers from one family. Cool. Only one Ronnie Van Zant and only one real Skynyrd band but the survivors,Billy,Gary,Arty,Leon and Allen were still great. Miss Steve, what a player tho. Din't even get moved into his new house. RIP Cassie and Dean and all. I grew up just south of them and I was 16 the year they formed. Loved em all my life. Peace

Like the others said. It was '"Ronnie" not "Donnie" but you got everything else right so I think that was just a typo. But you left out the most important thing. They had a ton of natural talent on every single instrument and one of the best (if not THE best) vocalist in the business and definitely without a shadow of a doubt one of the greatest songwriters in the history of writing songs. IMHO when you can write so many great, great songs and NEVER write down a single word... you are the best of all time

This was the Sunday night show. Skynyrd was originally going to play 2 nights at Winterland (Fri & Sat) but had to add the 3rd night when those shows sold out so fast. I was at the Friday night show and it was awesome (as usual) even though this was the period right after Ed King had left the group and before Steve Gaines was added so they only had Gary and Allen on guitars. They still tore it up, the Outlaws opened for them and they were tremendous as well. I was lucky enough to see the band 3 times before the tragic plane crash. Gary used to actually play a lot of lead back then compared to the role he has in the present incarnation of Skynyrd.

Just a few currents that I really love. Chris Stapleton top of my list, Blackberry Smoke, these guys are great southern rock band that pays tribute to the 70's bands but also has their own music, hopefully you guys know them. Gov't Mule or where ever Warren Haynes is, Billy Strings. Guess there are a few more when I really think abt it but majority of the time I am listening to 60's-70's w/ a lil 80's thrown in because the crap being put on today is such fluff & everyone sounds alike. I saw LS in St Augustine Florida a few weeks ago. They might be a cover band now but quite possibly one of the best concerts I've ever seen. During Free Bird all of a sudden I realized it was Ronnie singing. They had mixed his voice in with the band, and video of him from a live show. Quite possibly this one.Gave me chills!!!

Yes. I think they weren't afraid to be bold & innovative how they played. Like when they got Billy boy honky tonken his piano. It made them whole & added to their original line-up. Their guitarists are so renowned for their nearly freestyling way of playing. Switching from lead to rhythm & lengthy plays between lyrics & other subtle changes. Blending out for piano to lead were master strokes in their unique style still marvelled at today. Free Byrd is a ballad. Lyrics succinctly telling a story are short. These guys got the stones to come up with guitar solos that play twice as long as the song itself. Amazing concept showcasing enormous talent possessed by Lynard Skynard.

some of my favorite harmonies are hearing Steve and Ronnie sing together...of course Steve Gaines would then rip the snot out of an incredibly lyrical lead on his guitar, just an amazing add, and wham...those guys just plain stomped it when they played....they played with purpose...but they absolutely LOVED doing what they did...76-77..Steve was an insanely awesome find, and add for skynyrd...I loved Ed King too....but I see Ronnie's badassed self just wouldn't fly anymore with Ed. Sad...Rossington said when Ed left, him and Allen were THE only guitars...and they had to fill in for Where Ed left off and try to fill that HOLLOW assed hole....anyway..Its all a shame losing THIS band, the way we lost them....sad assed... No, I don't think there will be. I never got to see them live as my mom had cancer so obviously she was my life, she died 2 mos before plane crash. They were due to be in my town in Nov but obviously that never happened. I am super grateful I got to see RCB in 1980. They kicked ass & most of the surviving guys were there. Got to see Gary & Allen tearing it up, Billy Powell, I loved his piano, that boogie woogie southern thing he did so well so grateful for that. They played instrumental Free Bird w/a spotlight on mic as 50,000 grown men & women sobbed & hugged each other. One of the biggest outpouring of love I have ever been a part of

My sentiments exactly. Ronnie said he would not see 30 years of life , and said it many times to many people. Try to find bad lyrics that no one should hear. Look at Metallica for example. I did and it blew my mind. Look at " The god that failed ". Ronnie was saved the way Jesus said. If you believe that God sent his Son to die for all of our sins , was murdered , rose from the dead and is at the Right hand of the Father. Romans 10:9 says ( " That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. That's pretty simple. You will still sin but you will be more aware when you do. You don't become sinless. You become sin-less. You don't have to do nothing else. You are SAVED FROM ETERNAL HELL and separation from God. I used to drink gallons of beer everyday. Now I drink 1-3 a week , sometimes none. Doing it doesn't convict or bother me . The KJV Bible says your good to go until you lose your faculties ( Drunk ). If you lose your faculties after 3 or four beers then you need not drink. I know I am rambling but it's the most important thing a person needs to 100% positive about. God made us and we play by his rules or our rules and we lose , every time! If I'm wrong and we all die like dogs and feel nothing at death and cease to exist then we're good to go! But if I'm right according to the Holy Bible ............then I have gained it all , living with God and Christ in Heaven forever and ever and ever. ETERNITY!!!!!! And I will see my precious Mama and the others! " “Hallelujah Praise God Almighty For those that have ears to hear let them hear , and for those with eyes to see let them see! p.s. Ronnie had the Holy Spirit in him. There is no other explanation for him foretelling his death. Listen to the song Raiford !

Ronnie sings life's events that people can relate to,and music is life, because without music life would be dull uneventful a drag this came from a neighborhood of kids that wanted to play about life's events and times of the 60sand 70s freedom

I was there - right in front of Gary Rossington. I still have an Artimus Pyle broken drum stick I snagged as it came bouncing off the stage, & took some great 35mm slides. One of the best concerts of my career. I've watched this video about 10x.

Why Tuesday’s gone isn’t considered the greatest song ever is beyond me! As much as I love everything Skynyrd this song should have hit number one with a bullet! Love Sweet home Alabama, love Freebird, love many many of their songs but that’s the one that kills me every time!
