I am so honored to own a guitar signed by all of the original members. I truly can’t believe I own a guitar that every member touched. RIP to all of the original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Y’all are missed by the world

I saw the show in St Petersburg Florida at the Bayfront Center and the Lakeland Civic Center a night or two later, I had met the band at the Ramada Inn on US 19 in St Petersburg at the bar right after their bayfront Center show, I met them in traffic and they needed directions to that particular Hotel so I told this very large passenger van driver to follow me, it just happened to be that I had been at that particular Ramada Inn before on US 19 so I knew right where to go, incidentally the entire band other than Ronnie Van Zant was in that van, we got there and they thanked me profusely and offered me and my brother j a drink at the bar and of course we obliged, I was two days away from my 18th birthday October 20th ( not yet legal drinking age but I and all the boys in the band felt I was close enough) "so that being said, my little brother who was 16 and I got trashed at that bar in the Ramada Inn October 18th 1977, incidentally Allen Collins (a couple of hours later) gave me and my brother severa iron-on backstage passes to the Lakeland Civic Center show that would be two days later October 20th 1977( Allen Collins was a very nice and generous man and told me happy birthday) keep in mind I loved the street survivors album and I idolized all those boys and girls,I new every band member by name, it was the most awesome experience of my very young life, my brother and I could not believe any of this happened, we were big fans & living in their world for a couple of hours, what a treat, what an experience,I really admired Stevie Gains joining up with his sister and cooling with one of the biggest bands of that time,so we said our goodbyes told Alan we loved him and we will see him in Lakeland, "WOW! It truly seemed like a dream even to this day. But I'm going to say something I have never said before to anyone other than a few friends and family members, after I passed out the iron-on backstage passes to all my friends in the neighborhood off we went to Lakeland Civic Center on my 18th birthday October 20, 1977, when we got there we all kind of was wandering around one of the entrances by the ramp of the Lakeland Civic Center trying to decide how we should get in with these iron on backstage passes, well I happened upon Cassie and Stevie Gaines having an argument at the end of the ramp where are all the trucks and limos go, Cassie was flailing her arms to her brother saying she didn't like the plane because the engines would catch fire when they were starting it, she went on to say she didn't think it was safe because it was very old and she didn't like the fire coming out of the engines when they were starting it,( my interpretation of what she was saying and what they were discussing was that she was afraid of that plane and she was afraid they would crash eventually,) ( I guess! RIGHT?) "I just got to say this" " I never cried like that for a person I didn't know but I could tell that she was genuinely scared and I could tell she wanted her brother to do something about it, PERIOD!!! When I heard about the crash it literally had an effect on me like nothing else ever since, I'll never forget her concern and the look on her face, I truly have never shared the story with many people, (WHY?) What difference would it have made? But I got to say it always always bothered me and it has been on my mind for many years but I just got to say that when I ran across the Lynyrd Skynyrd crash on a KZbin video I felt I finally needed to say it and I don't even know why, but I could never get her face, that look, that worrisome panic she was pleading to her brother, I am so sorry Cassie, I am truly very sorry for you your brother & the rest who died, thank you for the Memories, thank you all for your beautiful generosity and thank you for making an 18 year-old boy's life such an awesome experience! You all have left an indelible impression that has lasted me a lifetime, THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!!

This was cool, thanks for sharing! I drove there in November and i believe I’m your Wisconsin neighbor. I spent at least an hour or so there and wondered where the plane went down. You are so lucky to have an actual first responder to talk to. I did see what i think is the creek to the left when you leave the monument (by Dwain Road) a private road. I had hoped to camp at the campground there but, i knew that from a full day driving i wouldn’t get there till after dark. A kind man (Guard) at the closest rest area told me it’s ok if i wanted to sleep there for the night and i took him up on his offer. Had i known, i may have just pulled into the parking lot and spent the night in front of the monument - I’ll bet it was beautiful with lights on at night. I appreciate your post!

How there hasn’t been a big budget movie of this terrible but Huge incident made is amazing. Especially considering some of the crap they make today

@BAZ... There has been two movies made about this crash. 1.) "I'LL never forget you," released in Canada in December of 2019, however, it was more of a documentary than a motion picture AND 2.) "Street Survivors," which was released in 2020, and produced by Artimus Pyle, and is truly a motion picture, albeit with the Whole world going "Cvd-19" crazy, it kinda got buried in the "hoopla" of that scare.

@@TheRealBKSchyster I’ll have a look at that first documentary you mentioned, cheers. I’ve seen ‘Street Survivor’ and while I enjoyed it it was Artimus’s story. Really that’s what it was. Not the Skynyrd story. And it really only concentrated on the crash. There needs to be a big Epic movie made about Their Story. From forming, getting signed, getting huge and then the crash. Like the recent Queen movie of a few years ago. It needs a big budget. And it needs to be done proper with their music inc also

I was lucky to see them in Chicago at Soldiers Field the Superbowl of rock.Ted Nugent played one song because he tossed out his water jug into the crowd....and the crowd tossed hundreds of jugs onto the stage and Ted said...F*** You Chicago....I got paid.And walked off.That was may of 1977.I ws a senior in high school.38 Special also was on that ticket.I think it was part 3 of a series of concerts.Then i heard in October the plane crashed killing Ronnie and the others.Sad day and i just was getting into their music.I was more of a metal guy back then because i was into playing drums.At least i saw the original lineup.

Things other than fire will burn a person. The dude doing the talking even said so himself, after he said the victim's eye wasn't burned. It was a chemical burn and that is still a burn.

Gary Rollins?
@TheRealBKSchyster
@TheRealBKSchyster Жыл бұрын
@Glen... I actually think he said "Jerry Rollins." It does sound like that, I even ran that section of the video several times to see if he did say Jerry. But he definitely has been embellishing a lot of information!! He even called "Leon," "Leon Wilkins" early on in the video!! I don't doubt that he was there helping extract anyone he could help, but there certainly is a lot of "embellishing" of facts, and straight out lies!!!!

Gene was burned by a phosphorus stick that ignited on impact. The old planes didn’t have deicing equipment like today. They used phosphorus sticks to heat the wings from the inside thus causing snow to melt. That’s how Gene Odom got burned. And to correct the narrator , Gene suffered severe burns to his face, including his eye and almost lost his arm to severe 4th degree burns. Phosphorus can’t be put out with water, it’s highly corrosive and will burn through bone, which is just what it did to Gene. For the narrator to downplay the burn as just a minor eye injury is disengenuous .

Artemus WAS shot. It could have been a richocet pellet or as Artemus said when they went to the crash site memorial, a lady was there saying she was the homeowner's WIFE and she shot Artemus. Either way, he WAS shot.

@@doorguru168888 No. I think he said it was on his front shoulder. His ribs were never hanging out, but he was trying to hold himself together because his chest ligaments had been ripped apart in the crash. He said it really hurt and he was trying to hold himself together with his arms.

Sorry but i call BS on him being shot. What exactly would a .243 shot "richocet" off of by firing in the air, the moon? Ive shot a .243 and believe me he would have known if hed been shot or even grazed by that big of caliber rifle. Ive talked to these guys in person, and they have no reason to lie. Artemis has been known for telling tall tales.End of story.

@@359Joey You're a moron. Were you there to see this or not? Tall tale or not, the guy just got out of a plane crash where 6 people died. Do ya think maybe he wasn't at his peak thinking abilities? It's not out of the realm that some shot from the guy's gun hit him if it was a shotgun and not a rifle. In his own words (and he was there, you weren't) Artemis said "I saw a gun, I heard a shot, I felt something on my arm, and I thought I had just been shot". Maybe it was a bee sting. Let's put you in a plane crash and see what happens to you when we do it to you. At some reunion, they found out that the guy's wife also shot a gun in his direction.

With that name, what " cult" are you from? Could it be a German " cult"? A Polish "cult"? You're one to speak such nonsense! Lynyrd Skynyrd was just good ol' southern rocknroll, and if I have to explain that, you wouldnt get it anyway. These were just plain, simple people and were the fartherest thing from a " cult" there ever will be. Your comment is idiotic.
