@@roxannemoser They all were out standing guitarist. my sister took me to see them in 1973, 74 and I took myself the other times. Every time they came to Atlanta. I was there at the Fox the third night for one more for the road. Then everytime RCB was there. then in 87 I was there both nights in Atlanta, the 2nd night artimus signed a drum head and gave it to me. They recorded both nights. I was on top of the world

Well said. I said almost the exact same thing word for word yesterday after watching a clip of Tom Dowd talking about when he and Ronnie were going fishing and Ronnie had his two Chihuahuas under his arms and had a billy club hanging off his wrist. Tom said when they got down to the water Ronnie starting bopping gators on the head with the billy club and said "These damn things think my dogs are dinner" I could listen to stories about Ronnie and the boys all day long. The one and only Lynyrd Skynyrd are the best there ever was or ever will be. IMHO no one even comes close

All those awesome guys are gone for mostly no good reason. Gary sharing these stories is a special thing. Think about it, Skynyrd released Pronounced in 73. Street Survivors in 77 then poof. They weren't even halfway done. These favorite songs that don't exist. Probably 30 more classics. We were so blessed to have them, and robbed of years of memories which pales in comparison to what the families lost. I've never met anyone in Skynyrd but they were at every wedding, barbecue, funeral, and rocked every traffic jam and road trip of my life. I am so grateful they were such a vital part of my life.

I am 71. I grew up in west side Jacksonville in same neighborhood same schools, same malls as Gary, Allen and Bob. Gary was my friend. I knew Bob and Allen but not as well. Gary and I would meet before Lake Shore Junior High where we went would open doors and let us in. The group The Mods were all close friends and if alive we are still good friends one, Rick Doeschler, has been my friend since 2cd grade so 65 years. Rick posts guitar playing daily. Rick picks songs learns the guitar part, plays, records posts..

i am a huge fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd. more so of Ronnies genius writing ability and how tight this band really was.. them songs are true facts about his life life. how easy we forget, that Skynyrd plane touched down in every state that year of the U.S. tour and every venue was sold out prior to landing from 1974 118 shows, 1975 117 shows, to 1976 125 shows. including opening for the Rolling Stones in the UK. 25 lead changes in a 3 way guitar battle on Free Bird, purest of rock n roll lyrics in southern form.

I always found it amazing that in the 50’s and 60’s American kids were listening to British artists and British kids were listening to American artists and out of those polar opposites so many bands were created. Skynyrd and the stones for starters were two of many bands formed.

In 1972, the band (then comprising Van Zant, Collins, Rossington, Burns, Wilkeson, and Powell) was discovered by musician, songwriter, and producer Al Kooper of Blood, Sweat & Tears, who had attended one of their shows at Funocchio's in Atlanta. Kooper signed them to his Sounds of the South label, which was to be distributed and supported by MCA Records, I used to see them at Funocchio's in ATL and in other clubs in ATL. I went to all 3 nights when they played at the Fox Theatre that ended up being thier double live album One More From The Road. Still have my ticket stubs framed and the original vinyl double album from 1976. Those 3 nights were the best I ever saw and heard them play of the dozens of the times I saw them live. Memories for me never to be forgotten!

What an amazing 24minutes of treasured southern rock history!! Growing up in Florida, you get that southern rock in your blood and it's there forever. Hearing Gary tell the stories that made it all happen gave me chills. Thanks for the memories!! Freebird is right at the top of the list of great rock songs. Stairway, Dark Side, etc., there's room for everyone, but Freebird does it for me. "Play it pretty for Atlanta!", i hear Ronnie's voice say everytime it comes on. The live album One More From the Road captured them at their best. They had just got started, when all of a sudden, it was over.

I'm a native of Atlanta. So are my folks before me. When Lynyrd Skynyrd chose to do a live album they purposely chose Atlanta, Ga. I heard Ronnie Van Zant talking about it in an interview. He said they chose Atlanta purposely and they also chose the historical Fox Theater because of the acoustics. In Freebird he says " playing pretty for Atlanta. " I rarely get to hear that but it gives me goosebumps. I am so thankful. I know that Lynyrd Skynyrd is playing where they are. And it sounds more beautiful than any of us can imagine. Playing pretty for Heaven. Rock.on and RIP. 😢 🌟 ☪️ 🖤 💜 🖤 🎸 🥁

So did I. I turned in my ticket for the refund, not knowing they'd reach legendary status one day. But I did hang on to my ticket stub from the show the revamped band did in BR in 92 I believe it was. I was in graduate school at LSU at the time. Worked at the Enterprise-Journal in McComb for a few years; went back to Gillsburg a couple years ago to see the memorial.

Got to see them in 75 and 76, a moment in my life I'll never forget. From the first time I heard them, I thought they were the best group in the world. Seen them in the fall in Kingsport Tn.(2022). You could tell Gary wasn't there, didn't sound the same. That made the 8th time over the years I'd seen'm. Always wanted to go fishing with Ronnie. Ain't hardly a day goes by I don't listen to one of their songs.

It'd suddenly rain cats and dogs nearly every afternoon at 3-4; water would b up to/over hubcaps n streets. This blond haired boy my age on other street side motioned for me to cross over street to where he was....about halfway cross street my left leg suddenly sank into a deep hole.....when I lifted it out, it was cut to the bone....I had fallen into an old city street storm drain with broken crossbars. When that blond haired boy saw my leg, he hauled azz..... decades later, I wondered if he was that little mean azz Van Zant boy, Ronnie....🤔
