It seems like nearly everyone has similar coming of age experiences from the mid-late 1970s hehehe. I clearly remember the first time I had some Boone's Farm wine back in the day, it only came in two flavors "Apple Blossom" and "Strawberry Hill." It wasn't too long before we graduated from Boone's to Mickey's Malt Liquor in the barrel shaped wide-mouth 12 oz bottles sometimes referred to as "grenades!" But no matter what we were drinking or partaking of whenever we heard this song, we would all stop and get real quiet just like you was in church on Sunday morning...listening to one of the best blue's songs ever made. Thank you Mr Justin Johnson for playing one of my all time favorite songs with such soul and tone! 🎸

Derek Wright The band’s website says that the song is based on a composite of people. These people actually lived in the Van Zants‘ original neighborhood in Jacksonville, Florida. Specifically, the country store “is based on Claude’s Midway Grocery on the corner of Plymouth and Lakeshore in Jacksonville.” The business has since been renamed Sunrise Food Store, but still occupies the same location. The specific spelling of the surname comes from Ed King. He wrote the liner notes for the Second Helping and decided to name the bluesman after the Jewish Loew’s Theatre

The very store that Ronnie sings about running to cash in those soda bottles still stands and isn't too far from his childhood home. I grew up 2 minutes from his house and the store sits at a 4 way stop, with The Jug not too far from that very location, too. It's 2020 and seeing this song covered on a.. shovel.. is something else, lol. Sounded great, never expected KZbin to suggest this for me to watch!

How are you reading my mind? "Ballad of Curtis Loew" was written by Ronnie Van Zant and inspired by Delta Blues Guitar Legend "Son" House. "Son" House is his name!
