Actually Neil started the whole thing, he had two songs Alabama and Southern Man.. Ronnie heard it and loved Neil but didn't agree with what he said feeling he was "stereo-typing" everyone in the south. And release "Sweet Home Alabama" letting Neil know their position.. there was never any more beef that that one chorus in the song .. Neil is seen wearing a Lynyrd Skynyrd Shirt in concerts showing his love for them and Ronnie and I believe Johnnie has also worn a Neil Young shirt.. there's no more fighting than that and people blow it out of purportion.

If you really want to hear something incredible listen to the Muscle Shoals collection when they recorded Freebird and Gimme Three Steps with the Swampers.. you will thank me! That imho is the BEST versions of Freebird and Gimme Three Steps in exhistance. The Swampers were horribly underrated and sadly most have never heard of them unless they listen to this song and dig deeper.

Agreed I've seen reaction videos to this where they did no re search and accused the song and Ronnie was a racist and didn't understand a word of the lyrics.. this song is a protest AGAINST segregation.. Gov Wallace was trying to keep it going eventually they had to send the National Guard down there to enforce the federal anti-segratation laws that were being put in place.. Ronnie and all of Skynyrd felt very strongly against hate and racism.

I saw them perform this song on July 13, 1974 at the Under the Stars festival in Charlotte, N.C.'s Memorial Stadium. A host of rock icons including ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rare Earth, Leon Russell, Elvin Bishop, and Billy Preston thrilled fans with unforgettable performances. Hits like Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama", "Free Bird" and Preston's "Will It Go Round in Circles," freshly released that year, resonated through the stadium.

Now that is an extra large helping of Southern-fried rock 'n roll! If you look closely, you can see Ronnie Van Zant is wearing a Neil Young T-shirt, presumably ironically. Another great band from the Southern Rock genre is the Allman Brothers, and their live version of "Whipping Post" is fantastic, with guitarists Duane Allman and Dickey Betts trading fabulous guitar solos. Rock on! 🤘

"That Smell", "I know a little", "Simple Man" or from the Lynyrd Skynyrd Revival why not "Tomorrows Goodbye", "The Last Rebel" or "We ain't much different" .. ♥

Hi Elok your doing a wonderful job. Some more info on Lynard Skyward. This name they got from a school teacher I believe that Ronnie had. Ronnie has two brothers Donnie who was part of a band called 38 Special and Donnie who is the current singer for them.. They have endured alot through the years. There are only two surviving members from the famed plane crash. Artimus Pyle there second drummer and Gary Rossington who is still currently playing with the current band.

@@metalrules1135 you have probably noticed this agenda for the western world only. Brainwashing the kids to hate their own culture as in it's racist etc to be proud and like your own culture but to support and embrace other cultures and religions that are from as far away and as different as you can get. In London where i am from the English culture i grew up with has gone and been replaced with cultures and religions that i will never have anything in common with. To do that to London etc. That's not racist, it's only if that would happen to their countries that it would be. Do you get it. People that support this agenda don't see the contradiction in their thinking.

It's not crazy that Cobain liked them. I've heard many artists when interviewed talk about liking them. Foo Fighters, Dream Theatre, Soundgarden, and especially Metallica, they even put a part of sweet home Alabama into one of their songs off their 1st album as a nod to Skynyrd and loving their music. So don't ever think it's "crazy" when you hear a rock or metal band say they like/love or admire them. Where do you think inspiration for their own music comes from, the air? lol!

I don't want to get political on the subject but that sticking flag of the confederates was a flag of hatred, bigotry, and racism. Neil Young on the other hand wrote against this hatred in a classic song Southern Man Southern man, better keep your head Don't forget what your good book said Southern change gonna come at last Now your crosses are burning fast Southern man I saw cotton and I saw black Tall white mansions and little shacks Southern man, when will you pay them back? I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking How long? How long? How? Southern man, better keep your head Don't forget what your good book said Southern change gonna come at last Now your crosses are burning fast Southern man Lily Belle, your hair is golden brown I've seen your black man comin' round Swear by God I'm gonna cut him down I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking How long? How long? How?
