The song was written about Gary Rossington (lead guitar), and yes, that's Gary laying down the kick butt solos on this song with some support from Allen Collins. Gary was under the influence when he crashed his new car into a tree resulting in injuries to him and a need to cancel some upcoming shows while he recovered. Ronnie was not happy about having to cancel the shows.

Actually Steve Gaines plays the 1st part of the solo (the Fender part) in the middle of the song and Gary plays the 2nd part (Gibson Les Paul). Steve plays all the fast picking parts of the song, Gary plays all of the slower parts, and Allen plays the rhythm parts in this song.

A genius song. If you can see the live version on the Vicious Cycles Tour,you will love it. The guitars are unbelievable. Another great anti-drug song they did which was powerful was “ The Needle and The Spoon.” Check it out.

You don't get much more Rockstar than the first verse of this song. I always leave other songs in every one of my comments and I don't expect for you to be able to react to them. HOWEVER 😁 here are 4 that are Rockstar lifestyle anthems. JOE WALSH song... LIFE'S BEEN GOOD The band NICKELBACK song ROCKSTAR This one is packed full of cameos. The band CYPRESS HILL song.... ROCK SUPERSTAR This one is rap! The band CHICAGO song... 25 or 6 to 4 If you do this one you're looking for the live version from Tanglewood. Just one may or may not be about the use of SUBSTANCES 😏😉😁 I guarantee you you will react to this one at some point if you continue this channel. ❤

Hi guys I just subscribe to your channel after watching a few songs through your catalog. I've been addicted to watching reaction videos for the last 5 years or so. I love watching people discover classic rock for the first time. Also watching channels grow from a few hundred to a half a million is also fun. (Rob squad reactions) for one. I believe one thing that makes a reaction channel grow is the amount of content two to three a day and I think you will grow. At least that's my observation. I know you're in the classics but let me introduce you to an artist that is a one in a lifetime artist to come along. His name is Ren He's an independent artist and a KZbin phenomenon. He became incredibly popular through the reaction community. The song that made him blow up is called. Hi Ren. I highly recommend it you react to it it will blow you away. He has a really large fan base on KZbin they are called renegades. Should be good for quite a few views and new subscribers. Seriously I'm 72 years old and I have never seen an artist quite like Ren. I'm looking forward to watching your channel grow Good luck. Peace ✌️

Good afternoon bubba I hope you're well! I'm the exact same way. I pretty much exclusively watch music reaction videos and college football podcast here on KZbin. I'm a huge fan of Rob squad reacts. I have been there from the beginning with them. These folks were killing it and then I got their channel taken down. KZbin is hateful like that! 😁😀😁😀

I'm pretty close to you in the fact that I just turned 71 on November 7th. I also watch a lot of reaction videos just like you said I enjoy seeing their reactions to all the different kinds of rock and metal. I have also been watching for about five years. I have several of the same ones I have subscribed to. Another reason I watch is because I have gotten so used to watching the same reactors that I feel like I'm listening to music with friends.mim living in a therapy hospital for back problems and other health issues so I pass a lot of time watching rock videos and listening to my favorite bands. I first heard heavy metal in 1969 when a friend of mine who played guitar turned me on to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. I've been into heavy metal ever since.

@JoeHicks-ow4rm I still remember the first time I heard Led Zeppelin. I was on vacation in flori believe I was seventeen years old. I had made friends.I would be owner of the motels son. He had just bought a first album. After he first heard it, he came and said you gotta hear this. You'd never heard anything like it. We went up to his room. He told me to sit down between these 2 killer speakers. Needless to say I was totally blown away. Fifty plus years and it's still my favorite album. It never gets old. Unlike me. Lol Peace ✌️
@JoeHicks-ow4rmАй бұрын
@kevinsattler6603 My experience was similar. I had never heard heavy metal before. I was 16 years old living in a very small town called Easton in California. it literally consisted of two grocery stores one liquor store one hamburger drive in one elementary school and one high school which is where I began my freshman year. As I said I had never heard heavy metal before. My parents listened to country music and my older sister listened to soft rock l met this cool guy in school who played guitar and he was very good. He could listen to a song once and immediately play it. Anyway he invited me to stay at his house one weekend and the very first thing he did was to have me sit in a chair between two stereo speakers just like you did. The very first album he put on was Led Zeppelin 2. I was instantly blown away. The second album he played was a Black Sabbath. This started my journey into hard rock. I never listened to anything else after that.mi immediately went out and started my own collection of albums. Now here I am just turned 71 last week and I'm still a metal head and will be until I'm six feet under. Sorry to ramble on so long but once I get started I forget when to quit. Just felt like sharing with you. Thank you.

As people have said, the song was inspired by Gary's wreck. However, the whole band was going a little too hard. Ironically, Gary survived the plane crash and lived until March of last year (2023). Gary also played with the reprised Lynyrd Skynyrd for years. When you stopped and commented on Ronnie looking at the guitarist, that guitarist is Gary Rossington). The Honkettes in the background add a lot to this one.

True story of the band and Ronnie Van Zant the singer had enough of it, Gary Rossington wrecked the car because of him being high
@jamber5150Ай бұрын
The guy you said the lead singer is looking at is Gary Rossington and this song is almost entirely about him. That’s why all the hardcore Skynyrd fans refer to Gary Rossington as Prince Charming. He really did crash his brand new car into a tree after drinking and taking ludes.
