Johnny Cash was not just a legend he was a great American. Someone many could look to in times of trouble.

Johnny is a legend, after beating addiction to some hard ass drugs, he became the "the man in black", you should check out that song. He was one of the first artists, at least the first of his popularity, to truly advocate for prisoners caught up in a corrupt justice system, he advocated for the poor, and those with addictions. Against his his record labels wishes, he played free concerts at several max prisons, he recorded a whole album at San Quentin Prison. The last line of Man in Black says... "I'd love to wear a suite all white, and tell you everything is all right, But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back, 'Til things are brighter, I'm the man in black." Great reaction guys!! ✌💚

Mr. Cash was born in 1932 and was a country music star to the end of his life. This is his cover of a song by the 19 Inch Nails.

He did this cover fairly soon after his wife June died (you see her in the flashbacks and their daughter together in the more modern clips.) He struggled with drug use, and incarceration and openly spoke about it at the time when NO ONE really dared to do so (50s/60s/70s.) He passed not long after this and very clearly struggled with a lot of depression long before adequete mental health services even existed. This cover was him not only embracing modern music (which he was famous for doing, not a common thing for his age group at the time, but also him releasing a lot of pain via music, which was a beautiful and heartbreaking thing to witness go down IRL. Edit to Add: June was a very successful country singer in her own right.

He did this before June died. She's standing behind him on the stairs during the recording. She died not long after.

Oh NO!!!! Always wait, when you're reacting to something you've never seen before and make sure it's actually finished! You didn't wait for him to close the piano lid. That's the most poignant moment in the entire video. That's the statement! 😔

Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter were country music royalty in the 60’s right up until Johnny did this final video before he died 👵🏼☮️ This is a cover of Nine Inch Nails song but it belongs to Johnny now 👵🏼

You cut the video short and missed the scene where he shuts the lid on the piano which is the part that really touches most people.

This song is about regretting the choices made in life. There are no do-overs IRL.

You clipped off the very end of the video where he closes the piano. This was his swan song right before he died.

A point about this cover, Johnny Cash's wife was dying and would soon pass after the video was finished and he was also suffering from serious health issues that would soon end his life, but the two of them had practically not been apart for any length of time for years after he had dealt with his addiction issues, drugs and alcohol. So he's doing a cover of a NIN song talking about how his wife like his mother, who had been lynchpins in his life were either going away or had been dead for years and he'd give anything for either of them to still be here with him or even better to go back and be a better man far earlier in his life. Trent Reznor, who originally wrote the song, after hearing Cash's version of it supposed told his agent that the song was Cash's now.

Growing old is painful. Life time of happiness yes, but also regrets. Also, as you get older the more people you know that die. Time just seems to stain the soul. It is easy to see why so many old people end up bitter or full of regrets.

Should do the original by nine inch nails. Same song and lyrics, different meaning

How's the meaning different??
@anthonyguadagnino268122 сағат бұрын
@ listen to both. One is a man at the end of his life talking about regrets, reflecting on his life. The other is about drug addiction
@sunshynff20 сағат бұрын
@@anthonyguadagnino2681 ... Oh I have, I love Trent Reznor and was a big fan of NIN. I see what you're saying, but I think they're more similar than you think, yeah Trent's was about addiction, but I'm a recovering addict, and trust me, when you're at that low point, that Trent was either at, or writing about, you're surprised almost everyday that you're still alive, at my worst I truly never thought I'd make it to the end of that month or year. So Johnny's version ended up being a reflection on his life, but June Carter hadn't died yet, so that might have been slightly unintentional. Plus Johnny was a heroin addict for quite some time, he got clean thanks to June, so the whole line about the needle's old familiar sting, is one of the things that he said drew him to the song when Rick Rubin suggested it. It's all objective, I wasn't trying to bust your balls, both artist had a great take on it, and they both respected each others version, I think that's the greatest part of it all. Take care ✌💚
