I have thoroughly enjoyed this series of videos. I'm not really even a pin ball fan. I doubt I will ever just walk by a pinball machine again without at least stopping and looking at the art and imagining all the magic that is happening under the play field. Thanks again.

Thanks for watching Andrew, we have a new pinball series starting Wednesday that is going to be pretty interesting, see you then!

This is actually one of my favorite em's. Used to play it in a bar my Dad took me to when I was a young man (I'm 60 years old now). It may be simple but the combination of the strong bumbers, the cool light up center spinner, the knock down targets placement, the single ball out shoots & being an add a ball make it a play like no other! Really enjoyed seeing it in action again! Great resurrection!

Nice! My grandfather worked on pinball machines in the 60’s. Never knew him, but my grandmother would tell me stories growing up. Just bought my first machine a week ago. A 77 Night Rider solid state version. Now I’m looking for an EM machine to add. 👍🏼😁
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
Hang onto that Night Rider, that's one of my favorite machines! The artwork is really cool and the game really flows well, I just love it. I've got an EM Night Rider but I haven't been able to find a backglass for it! If I ever find one, I'll film a video of it as I fix it :)

I had this game before. It sat in a warehouse in California and the playing field was worn. Some guy from the Midwest drove all the way to California to buy it from me. That game is a lot of fun. Wish I still had mine .

Now I know why you got into fixing them. Cost you too much money to pay to play. Lol! Love your videos and commentary. Thank you for sharing. Awesome y'all let people come in and play these games. Paying it forward
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
I never really cared too much about playing them I always kind of just enjoyed watching them do their thing, when I was a kid I'd just watch other people play. So you can try to make it do this and make it do that... or you can just stand there for free and watch somebody else make it do this or make it do that, lol. So I think that naturally got me more into fixing them, then actually playing them....

Thanks for the play-testing video. Also, thanks for the tight shots of the artwork. Very greatly appreciated. Gotlieb is a German name, and is pronounced as if it were spelled "Gotleeb". By the way, I just built a Pinbox3000 cardboard toy pinball machine, and noticed the basic shapes for the kickers, pop-bumpers, and curves appear to be based on this very type of pinball machine's layout. Very interesting. :)

Another great job. I am glad you didn't fix it's crooked leg, I like the old machines with a few battle scars. it shows they have worked for a living. I end up too scared to play perfect machines in case I chip the paint or cracking a plastic or something.

Absolutely, we call 'em trailer queens if you've never heard of that. You'd go to a car show and everybody'd have their nice classic cars they drive around a little bit, and then a few guys would show up with a car on a trailer that never does anything except ride around on a trailer from show to show because they don't want to get dirt on the tires!

I bet Williams never dreamt this would be still working 50years after it was built. Amazing job. These are totally worth saving. Have you ever considered a cheap airbrush to speed up the paint process? I know brushing can be fun though. 🙂
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
The main reason I haven't used an airbrush is the mess and cleanup involved, if I use a brush I don't even have to tape anything off so it's much quicker for me at least.

Yeah those EM pinballs are made to withstand time and unless the cabinet is destroyed, they are always fixable. I wonder how modern pinballs like the current Sterns, JJP or Spooky will work in 50 years considering the fact their CPU and node boards are rarely fixable and chances are that proprietary replacement boards won't be produced forever ? :=(
@thierrydelage16815 жыл бұрын
Simple gameplay but kinda cool and really fast for an EM. Those DC coils really help making things snappy :=). The shape of the mechanism for the bonus multiplier in the middle looks a bit like the one in Williams "Tales of the Arabian Nights" holding the genie's lamp.

I was trying real hard, for that whole video, to forget that you said that the front leg was bent. Holy OCD Batman! What I found interesting was that the extra ball for score was awarded after the last ball was played and not as soon as the score was reached which is how it works on my 1976 Williams Blue Chip, also an add-a-ball. Perchance the match option was also in play? Plug in that knocker otherwise an add-a-ball is just an add-a-blah! Great stuff as always!
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your systematic take down of the few things you feel I did wrong. I'm sorry my presentation here wasn't as good as you would have done it, I'll try harder in the future. I have logged your complaint to help us make better videos in the future, - Complaint #1,523 - 'Leg is too crooked, I didn't fix knocker so game is Blah." Sorry again for the failures

@@LyonsArcade I was not trying to be the least bit critical...just enjoying and, I guess failing, to emulate some of the self deprecating style which is so enjoyable in your videos. The OCD reference was self directed. I am amazed how many responses you take the time to make and sincerely apologize that my comments came off as being critical. Please keep your camera rolling.

Ron, what’s the buzz when the ball rolls through the left lane at the top? Something getting stuck or shorting out a score feature?
@DavidWilliams-rn6uq5 жыл бұрын
Errr, maybe not the left top lane, maybe the bonus advance rollovers above them? I did see where it buzzed when the ball was on the spinner - something in the same circuit maybe? Way cool game!
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
Usually when you score something it holds a point relay in, which releases as soon as the score turns over on the score drum, it opens a switch which kills the relay. On a switch where the ball moves very slowly over the switch, even though the score drum has pulled in and turned the number, the relay won't turn off as long as the switch on the playfield is still turned on. There's also a burnt out bulb, and the left flipper is dying (someone told me) but good eye!

At first glance I thought the camel was rolling his eyes at the bad acting going on. Didn't even noticed he was inflatable. All I have to say is that you are much better at pinball then I am. EDIT: The "are" was mistype as "ate".

I played the add-a-ball version of this game Star Action. You could get more then one extra ball you started at 5 balls to play and you could go all the way up to 10. Gottlieb made quite a few add-a-ball games back in the day such as Capt. Card is the add-a-ball version of High Hand. On most of the add-a-ball version of the Gottlieb games from early 60s to about 75 you could see the numbers from 1 through 10. Then when they introduced Bank Shot, which was the add-a-ball version of Sure Shot. You had up to 5 "WOWS" that would light up. so you could earn up to 5 extra balls on that game.
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
Paul this is an Add A Ball version as well!
@Paulywint5 жыл бұрын
@@LyonsArcade Yes, that was on the Williams, Bally, and Chicago coin machines back in the day. I do go on that pinball database website and I do look at the flyers, and some of them were adjustable to add-a-ball.
@memyopinionsche66105 жыл бұрын
Hay I wonder if you can settle a disagreement between me and my friend about the balls for pinball machines. He said the balls are different sizes for each manufacturers of pinball machines like data east Bally's Williams and so on. And the balls come from different manufacturers of the balls. Me I think there all the same size and is manufactured by only one company too all the other Pinball manufacturers of the pinball machines. Who right?
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
Almost all pinball machines use the exact same size ball, they're not necessarily from the same manufacturer though.... they're actually a machinery part, they're ball bearings! There were many other sizes of balls used over the years but they were almost all for games and machines that were unique designs. In general if you walk up to any pinball machine with flippers on it made in the last 60 years, the pinball is exactly the same size.

Can someone help me out when he opens the machine and we see the Williams blue W logo it looks like the same font and colour as once seen on the Williams F1 team are the two companies related in somehow
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
The two companies have no relationship, the Williams F-1 team was owned by the Williams family in England and the Pinball Company was owned by a different Williams family in the United States, by the time this game was made the Williams family had sold the pinball company, and the F-1 Williams family hadn't started their company yet.
