I was 18 years old in 1996 and I was in a CD store looking around with this playing in the background. I had to go up and ask the guy to order it for me. It didn't leave my CD player for about 6 months.

Straight up, one of my favorite songs & Hugh knocks it out of the park. 1996 was for sure the year, graduated HS when this came out & I'm a trumpet player too still to this day. His style & delivery is bad ass! Love this track!

Hauntingly Classic. I played this on my soprano sax back in the late 70's.

Underrated? I think not. Have been listening to his music since the late 1960's.. along with lots and lots of other music lovers.

Hugh Masekela is a beast on the trumpet. Pulling off a Zeppelin and elevating the Sergio Mendes original to another dimension of time and space.

Jorge Ben Jor is the original composer and singer of this song, not Sergio Mendes. If you listen to Jorge Ben and Hugh Masekela you may think that the sonic sound is in fact quite similar. Quite soulful kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJWWfXipgK6dhKs

Thank you for posting. This is a Great cut by Hugh Masakela. Sergio Mendez and the Brasil 66,s version was well done, prior to Mr. Masakela. It kicked butt on local L.A, jazz radio, back in the day. They played this full version. The pop stations played side A of the 45 version, where side A faded out going into the piano solo. Pop radio never played side B. After hearing it, I scraped my money together, went out and bought the album just for this cut, not knowing until I got it home and put it on the turntable that I had hit the jackpot. The whole album was great.
