Honestly being in a society where every 5 seconds we are buying a new item, it’s good to see that someone has used and loved one bag so much. Although I loved its antique look the way it was. Great work though. Thank you for sharing❤❤❤

Another amazing restoration of a Coach bag. It can live it’s best life now. I rehabbed an Italian made Coach drawstring (4180) last summer. To be honest, I purchased it by accident as I forgot that was the bag with scary stains in the lining. I think the bag probably spent a great deal of time in bars with its prior owner. It was the only vintage bag I purchased, that I was afraid to open. Anyway, I can highly recommend Shout Advanced Grease Busting Foam. It comes in a can and it really is a miracle worker on the fabric lined bags with stains.

I was surprised when you didn't fully submerge it before restoring. It looked like the poor bag had been put through the grinder. I still think that nothing compares to vintage Coach handcrafting, they don't make them like this anymore. The snap closes beautifully. Good job Lisa. Enjoy!

I love my vintage coach bags. I have a large leather tote with wooden dowels and a strap with snap closure. It commuted with me everyday for 15 years to NYC. Spent another 5 years driving my car to work and I always had my Coach tote. It’s seen better days and I’m hoping to find some videos on repairing or camouflaging the wear and tear on the bottom 4 corners and,on then ends of the leather covered dowels. I don’t really like the newer stuff and stopped looking. The newer stuff is easier and cheaper to manufacture. The cost of quality leather shouldn’t be a sacrifice, but knowing that if you take care of a vintage leather Coach bag, it will live forever!

You could have gotten the white spots off the back using a proper cleaner or remover that would work on whatever it was. It appeared that no attempt was made. Even going down to bare leather would have helped. Using a sanding block will refurbish and remove stains from suede interiors, also adding a liquid dye to water will help restore color allowing you to use less Saphir product.

@@LyssaMakesNew Thank you for replying, I too love project bags. Denatured or Ethyl Alcohol will usually remove acrylic based paints, Kids "N" Pets enzyme cleaner will help with a laundry list of "stuff" at least lessening the staining and helping with neutralizing odors. I love the Saphir products! I watch lots of art conservation videos, it's helped me understand how to formulate solutions to remedy stains and other adhered "stuff" by understanding first what it's initial makeup is.

With leather in the state it was in at the beginning, why not use Saphir teinture (paint) first to get the color back..? Saphir 1925 Pommadier is a maintenance product, not a refinishing product. The result looks good on video but I wonder how well it holds up over time - there's a big difference between dying leather and applying (colored) polish! Still - it looks good, keep up the good work! I'd love to see an update after a year of use to see how it holds up!

Is that shoe creme different to normal shown polish? Putting shoe polish on a leather bag is a big no.
@tinamcnalley2575 Жыл бұрын
Yes, she is using shoe creme. I have been doing something similar for 30 years. My own personal bags would look so tired and worn, about half of this bags wear. I carry black leather daily. After wiping off, I use an office supply permanent black marker to color the entire bag working in extra ink on the really worn spots. Let that dry 15 minutes and then work black shoe cream all over the bag in a circular motion using a cloth. A paint brush seems a bit fussy to me, plus with a cloth you are forcing more of the emollients into the leather. Let the shoe creme dry 15 to 20 minutes then using clean old t-shirts I buff off thoroughly while building a shine. Lastly, once I believe I have removed all of the excess shoe creme, I use clean white t-shirt fabric to do the final 5 to 10 minute buff. This way I am certain all excess shoe creme has been removed. Leather with age on it desperately needs the emollients of shoe cream to help stave off further cracking and replenish a healthy, supple hand. I have never had any issues with shoe creme staining any piece of clothing. I have decades of fabric expertise along with textile studies at uni. The leather absorbs the moisture it needs and any excess is removed with repeated buffing. I usually pick a 2 hour movie to keep me occupied as this process is long, tedious and boring otherwise. I've read of other people making the same claim about shoe creme on bags and it is simply bad information from someone who did not do the job properly.
@nataliebutler Жыл бұрын
@@tinamcnalley2575 Why don't you use leather balm to condition the bag and leather dye to recolour it instead? Leather can't breathe with shoe polish on it so surely that will cause it to crack and degrade more over time.
@tinamcnalley2575 Жыл бұрын
@@nataliebutler Shoe polish and shoe creme are two different substances. Shoe polish is color that contains a substantial amount of wax, shoe creme is color and moisturizers. I always use shoe creme as it works nicer with the types of leather womens' shoes and bags are typically made of. Leather can still "breathe" with either polish or creme. As the overwhelming majority of women never treat their shoes or bags, even treatment with shoe polish would be better than no treatment at all. As for shoe dye, the markers do an excellent, lasting job and I always have one. Dye would just be another expense and another bottle of "stuff" cluttering my closet.
