I live over the ditch but was born and bred in Lyttelton. My Maternal Great, Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Nurse came with the Canterbury Pilgrims as a babe in arms, and while most of the settlers traipsed over the Bridle Path, (named beause it is so steep that the oxen had to be literally forced along by their bridles,) our family stayed put in the Port. Am pushing 73 these days and the older I get, the more I miss the Port. It is indeed, a very special place and will always be home to me regardless of where my feet happen to be standing at any given moment.
