When the M 1956 load carrying equipment began to be used the US military was still using the M 1949 type of sleeping bag so therefore the M 1956 carrying equipment came with a sleeping bag carrying straps system. In this video I show how to use the sleeping bag straps and to attach them to the suspenders

Thank you! Yes, you are right about that British equipment! I just ordered a set for $2 ! I thought about getting two sets but better to allow others to get a chance to have a durable piece of History!

Thankyou.i used this same equipment in the Australian army in the early 1980s. I found new octopus webbing from a surplus store as a kid. Years Later in the army I told a friend and fellow soldier about this webbing that may have something to do with our webbing, it did and my mate collected this stuff and traded my for it. My mate I traded with later became connected to the army history unit. I had an idea but I didn’t know how it fit together with my webbing at the time, as we didn’t use octopus webbing, now I do, thankyou

I got some of these straps years ago. They had a ton of them in an original box. Never handed out to the troops at the time, or just overstock. I finally got an original sleeping bag to go with them. I have it all together for display, or for someone who shows up, needs gear, and couldn't bring theirs with them. Or they didn't listen to me and have no gear.

@@WebGearReview Apologies sir, Ive never actually seen the M1944 wool bag. I have about a million questions! I have an M1949 that I put inside a Cold Intermediate bag, for a cover I use the modern MSS Bivy sack. Makes for a super warm bag! Were I to use the wool bag as a liner for the M1949 in that full set up, how cold you think I could brave?

@user-ex5yk4xj4c No problem, I thought it was kind of funny because that would definitely be a deflated m1949 sleeping bag, someday I’ll do a video on the m1944 bag and the M49 bag. Thanks again

These straps work great stand alone or with any webgear up to and including the iifs. The side straps can be a little weird on iifs, but just hook it to a pair of the belt attachment straps. On ALICE or M1967, just hook it to the front clips. My family always used these with our sleeping bags for camping or trips on my grandpas boat. They still work fantastically.

How do you use this on the IIFS? I carry my sleep system at the top of my medium Alice ruck. Then I use the sleeping mat at the bottom of the ruck. I used to just use the spaghetti straps around the sleep system. Then I just got some basic retaining straps with fast x buckles. Much cleaner and quicker. When my ruck is all packed and set I use the general purpose lashing strap around the outside of the ruck. Helps squeeze everything in. Then I cover everything with the woodland camo pack cover aka the spare tire cover.

@@vermontvermont9292 use normal connecting straps and hook them onto the buttoned cross strap on the shoulder pads. Or if you want a super secure hold, feed the straps under the ALICE webbing on the shoulders and secure. Use the path that the normal straps go through. Either way works. The spaghetti straps are some of the most versatile equipment made.
