Cut up or shaved Irish spring bar soap really helps keep pests away in many different applications as well.

My buddy Justin gave me a M65 jacket in woodland toward the end of summer. It's brand new from 1999 and I wanted some tips to take care of it to make it last as long as it can and this video helped me out. Thanks for sharing this info

Had forgotten about cedar shavings. When I was a kid, people used "cedar chests" to store wool blankets & clothing. If wire hangars aren't sturdy enough to support the jacket, try wooden hangers.

The cedar trick is 100% true, I prefer it to moth ball's any day.

Where I work, my job is general mechanic, but I most weld and fabricate. I notice my heavy cutting and welding jacket made the coat hangers sag . Well I ofcourse added more hanger to stiffen them up . I eventually decided to make myself a super hanger . So I tool a standard hanger for size reference widen the shoulders by a total of 4 inches and then bent some 1/4 inch stainless steel round bar on a jig to the shape of the hanger. Well needless to say I have now made a ton of hangers for myself and coworkers. No more sagging hangers.

Personal opinion. If I don't want additional scents that perhaps the animals might pick up, like a normal detergent......then baking soda is used for a mild wash. I'm not into the scentblock craze, but I do the baking soda wash for all hunting clothing whenever possible. Good reminder on the cedar as well. Thanks for the video.

Blackie, hi from UK. Not sure if I have bored you with this before, but based on your recommendation of the M65 I bought a special one. The one I found was European, the 'Austrian cold weather M65'. Those Austrians have freezing winters and their cold-weather M65 is tough as nails, fully waterproof and loose fit so as to get a large fleece under it. They also do a heavy M65 style shirt and some 'cold weather trousers' which match the M65 and are to be worn over your pants. They are waterproof, quilted inside and have suspenders to keep them up given the weight of them. I tested the set and I have to say it is a worthy purchase for anyone reading this who lives somewhere cold. Here in UK the over-trousers and coat cost about the equivalent of $60 for the pair. All thats needed is a heavy fleece to wear under the coat.

Did you get it from Varestuleka? I can't decide on an Austrian M65 from the Finns, or getting a new one from Alpha Industries.

What I've done in the past to dry my M65 is I get a couple of usgi wool scarves and roll them into the tightest form as possible. Then I will toss em in the dryer with the jacket. This worked well for me.

This is very useful, yesterday i got a M65 and it needs some care, for example the hood is a bit loose and the waist cord is missing, also, for restoring stitches i recommend vinyl thread, it's tougher and will last longer

Blackie, Thanks for sharing this Great Tip and Trick, I still got my M-65 that I was issued back in 1979 , my son is 18 years old and he wears sometimes. My M-65 Woodland camouflage I bought it in 1983 still have it too. I used Wisk laundry soap. I will try the tricks you gave. Hey I bought one years ago in Cammo and recently after finding your channel I bought a black one with a zipped in liner . Today I climbed a hill with a poncho over it. It was still warm even though I was soaked .. Thanks for the advice. The pillow idea is excellent . I used the liner from the Cammo one as my sleeping bag .

I wonder how well it would work if you were to put a mesh bag in one of your pockets with cedar chips in it when you're just out and about not very much just enough to give you the smell. It would certainly smell better than I do after a few days out and kept them from crawling on you it would be even better

years ago here in England I had a M65 in Woodland we had a few cold winters I also had one of thr old British army green waistcoats I could no longer button it so I removed the liner slipped the waistcoat over the sleeves and buttoned the liner back in again that meant I had two layers of quilting under the jacket, made a difference unfortunately I am now several sizes too big to wear it
