During the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake (M 9.1~9.3), Banda Aceh has shaking intensity of MMI VIII-IX or Shindo 6-/6+, this is almost about the same as the shaking intensity of Sendai city during the 2011 Tohoku, Japan Earthquake (M 9.0~9.1).

Great job! Please plan to do these at some points in the future: April 11, 2011 Fukushima Earthquake (M 6.6~7.0); March 20, 2021 Miyagi Earthquake (M 6.9~7.0); New version of 2010 Chile Earthquake (M 8.8); 2010 Yushu Earthquake (M 6.9~7.1); new version of April 2015 Nepal Earthquake (M 7.8); and so on. Thanks.

Man this earthquake rupture was insane, it went over a thousand miles. Imagine if there was a earthquake warning system in indoneasia and then this happens in modern day, imagine how the disasters discord servers freaking out about this.

What do the different tsunami warning colors represent?
@Etriland
@Etriland 9 ай бұрын
It's inspired by how the Japan Meteolgical Agency issues them. Purple (formally red and white) means Major Tsunami Warning, red means Tsunami Warning, and yellow means a Tsunami Advisory. Not shown in this video, but light blue means a Tsunami Forecast (mild tide changes is likely, and you should be aware) A Major Tsunami Warning will cause a large area of inland flooding, a Tsunami Warning will cause minor to coastal flooding (not as severe), and advisory is usually a warning for people that's near the beach or a dock

@Marcos The 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake (M 9.1~9.3), it is also comparable to the 1964 Alaska Earthquake (M 9.2) and the 2011 Tohoku, Japan Earthquake (M 9.0~9.1). Depends on the exact magnitude value chosen of each earthquake, it can be the second or the third strongest earthquake ever recorded.

Even this earthquake has very large magnitude, the maximum shaking intensity is only MMI IX, Shindo 6+; not MMI X+, Shindo 7; same for the 2010 Chile Earthquake (M 8.8).

Sometimes, earthquake with magnitude only M 6-ish can reaches intensity MMI X+, Shindo 7; examples: February 2011 Christchurch Earthquake (M 6.1~6.3, X/7); April 14, 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake Foreshock (M 6.2~6.5, X/7); 2018 Hualien Earthquake (M 6.4, X/7); and so on. Sometimes, earthquake with magnitude M 8.5+ can have maximum intensity that no more than MMI IX, Shindo 6+; examples: 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake (M 9.1~9.3, IX/6+); 2005 Nias-Simeulue Earthquake (M 8.6, IX/6+); 2010 Chile Earthquake (M 8.8, IX/6+); 2012 Indian Ocean Earthquake (M 8.6, VII/5+); and so on. At that time i was in Lhok kruet, which is pretty close to The epicentre, i can greatly remember (tough i just 5 yo at that time) that the quake doesnt stop Even when first tsunami wave arrive, imagine The shaking last for a half our, being strong and weak then just repeat, followed by continuosly hundred aftershock for two month straight, one thing that i hardly to believe is, among the story' from older victim, they say when the quake happen all people hear very big Rumbling sound caming from the sea, they say All people on western shore hear it, it describe as a far away hundred of thunder sound, as long as i remember i heard it too, but maybe i quickly distract to something (children thing). Any explanation for this experience maybe? I still look out for the answer till today
