I owned the graphgear 1000 many years ago, this pencil works by clicking the top and it’ll expose the pen tip with a mechanism that holds the pen clip in place. Its biggest flaw is the holding mechanism of the pen clip , when you use the pencil frequently, it’ll eventually wear out the plastic inside that hold the pen clip in place … and when it’s worn out it’ll be annoying as hell because the pen tip will retract backwards everytime you write due to the insecured pen clip. But no deny that this is a great pencil regardless of its flaw

I had an old version of the Rotring Rapid Pro (all plastic black) and decided to get a set of GraphGear 1000 with 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 leads. In use the GraphGear are nice to handle and no fatigue when using for long periods.

I had the black plastic threaded piece near the tip of the pencil on my graphgear 1000 break, during regular use while the pencil was fully assembled. I was able to carefully super glue it back together, and it’s still a perfectly usable pencil, but it’s definitely something worth noting. To add, I had already owned the pencil for over 5 years at this point, so if I had to replace it instead of being able to fix it, I would’ve absolutely gotten my money’s worth

I own both and, although both feel very solidly built, I do prefer the Rotring 800 by far because of its overall design, robustness, feel in the hand... It's just my choice. I hate that extremely protruding (and cheapy feeling) clip on the Pentel GraphGear 1000. Besides, its automatic retractable tip (by clicking the clip), makes me think that it might breaks over time of usage and it will be prone to break leads as well.

Good comparison, congratulations! I own both, the first time I had R800, 0.5, 0.7, black and for a few months I also have G1000, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9. In my opinion both are very good. G1000 are more beautiful and use smart sheet metal technology solutions but less expensive for an excellent product. R800 looks more technical and uses expensive machining technology solutions and therefore the price difference. G1000 is more convenient, I really like to write and make hand sketches with it. For technical drawing I use R800, it seems more suitable. Good job, keep it up!

Thabks for your nice comment! Indeed both have their advantages, I'd totally use the G1000 for everyday writing as it's lighter too.

Smart sheet metal technology? Wth is that even supposed to mean? Plus the looks is subjective. I think the Rotring looks way better personally

Lunacy. Graphite WAS mixed with binder material, in the factory 🏭 You must lay down enough material to get a fine layer of graphite deposited on to the paper.

That's a cool idea, also they complement for sure. If I had to go to an exam, I'd take the Graphgear. The R800 is too heavy to write much under pressure. Maybe the high grip is great to draw with technical precision, as it's easier to see what you do. I use the R800 only for calculations and to enjoy drawing some circuits ideas 😁
@mmarjisr Жыл бұрын
I disagree on how long you can write with both of them with so little weight difference between both of them you can write for hours with either or. I have the rotring 800 rotring rapid pro and the graphgear 1000 for 3 1/2 years now and I don't feel that much of a difference when writing when it comes to the weight
@grimgrimxv93802 жыл бұрын
I used both the rotring 600 and graphgear 1000 for years, the rotring broke first because I dropped and bent the tip, but I think I can fix it by buying another tip yet too lazy to do it. I then use the graphgear for years but after I dropped it the pencil stopped retracting. After watching this I think I'll pick up the 800 if it's on sale, seems like a durable pencil.
@m.a.s.engineeringgadgets48672 жыл бұрын
Yes, just be sure to retract the tip of the R800 everytime you're finished using it. Otherwise, you're in the same situation. You'll also notice the heavier weight of the R800, which I particularly prefer.
@mmarjisr Жыл бұрын
ice you did Graphgear 1000 vs Rotring 800, but next time compare them with the Rotring rapid Pro which I like better cause the sleeve retracts as the lead gets shorter I have all 3 of them

Between these two pencils, which would you recommend for figure drawing? I'm trying to be an artist, any help here would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I know you weren't asking me, but wooden pencil my friend. For figure drawing, organic shapes and proportions are important. Not strict technical precision and accuracy like in engineering.

Hm I'd suggest you to delete the comment and think again before writing, or let it be written and look like someone who has no clue. There's not much to say, basically if I took the "center of length" I'd measure the length and divide it by two, would be more practical don't you think? Maybe there's something more than just the length which tilts the pen in one side or the other... Maybe... Hmm
