To be honest both are in my collection and love them both, of course the 600 I use for my sketches and the 800 I use for writing and honestly the 800 does wobble a tiny bit but I barely notice it while writing since that's what I really use it for and 600 for my more precise needs

Just ordered a rotring 800. Have never used anything other than cheap almost disposable mechanical pencils, so can't wait to try something proper! I study graphic design, and commute every day, so the retractable tip seemed like a must for me

The most comfortable position to hold the pencil are at it's balance point and at the half of the balance point (measured from the tip of the lead to the balance point).... I personally prefer a pencil with the balance point located closer to the tip, although i can adapt well by holding them on it's balance point or at it's half of the balance point
@juancarlosl41332 жыл бұрын
I listened another review and I listened the same as you say: it is preferred that the most of the weight to be closer to the tip of the pencil. But for the reviewer of this video, it is not the same. For him it is better when the balance point it is just in the center of the pencil 🤔
@m.a.s.engineeringgadgets48672 жыл бұрын
Hey! For sure is a personal preference. What I don't like about the balance point being so low, is that it feels "heavier" to the fingers, and therefore I'm slower or rather uncomfy. Being higher or where the pencil touches the palm, gives you a lighter feeling in the fingers which is better to write things down, so you don't get tired so fast. Maybe you can test some pens you already have, balance them and compare them to see what you like best!
@mauriciolacruz4 жыл бұрын
Great review! 👍🏻 I'd have liked you to include the Rapid Pro in this in-deep comparison as well. By the way, I find a lower (towards the tip) center of gravity (balance point) to give a better handling and writing experience in general, so what for you is a "cons" in the 600, for me is a "pro".
@m.a.s.engineeringgadgets48674 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Most likely in my next video I'll compare the Rapid Pro vs the 800 as I don't have the 600 anymore. Funny enough I wanted to like the 600 but the reason why I couldn't like it was the center of gravity. I found I had to drag the pencil when writing, whilst with the 800 it felt easier to write with, like my hand flows even if it feels heavier haha. Stay tuned for the Rapid Pro comparison! 😉
@mauriciolacruz4 жыл бұрын
@@m.a.s.engineeringgadgets4867 Well, being the Rapid Pro a retractable tip mechanical pencil like the 800 is, I guess the comparison between these two will have even more sense than with the 600. I've ordered several units of the 600 and am looking forward to receive them and test them. Can't wait! What I mainly like from this model (600) is the solidity/robustness in general (apparently it doesn't suffer from any play/wobble/rattle of the tip and cap, unlike it happens with the other two.) Nontheless, I'll order some more units of the 800 and Rapid Pro models as well, so that to "complete" my collection of Rotring mechanical pencils. Looking forward to watch your next video comparing those two beauties! 😉👍🏻 Thanks and stay safe mate!
@m.a.s.engineeringgadgets48674 жыл бұрын
Indeed I can tell you, the 600 feels more solid and doesn't rattle / have any play at all. Having a collection of these nice pencils sounds good haha Thanks mate, take care yourself as well! Cheers!

In my case I prefer the R800. The clicking doesn't bother me. It feels more natural in my hand. The R600 feels unspectacular. Thanks for commenting!
@SevenDeMagnus Жыл бұрын
@@m.a.s.engineeringgadgets4867 So cool, 800 I bet also has the more secure feeling coz' the point if it slips (these two are quite small in person and thin but cool enough) can easily break like a techpen (I think there should be a thick carpet, similar to how fountain pen people set things up) but w/ the 800 you can retract them. I did get the black R600 as a gift by one Rotring's dealership (an amazing blessing in disguise, I did suggest things that were innovative to their client Rotring. It was supposed to be just a Tikky but I guess there were lots of suggestions which tool a bit of time but time well worth it).

Rotring 600 definitely feels rock solid. If you want a lighter solid pencil, try pentel graph 1000 (not graphgear 1000). I took pages of calculus and algebra annotations for hours with rotring 600, but never felt any kind of discomfort related to its weight.

What I don't like on the 600 is the eraser cap being hollow (having a hole) on the top instead of being solid. Also the clutch housing / inner thread should have been made out of metal as well, like the rest of parts. Other than that, this is my top #1 and I love it.
@m.a.s.engineeringgadgets48674 жыл бұрын
Indeed, those are some points of why I decided to go for the 800. To me, it's the perceived quality also what matters. And for some reason, I can write smoother with the 800 vs the 600... I can't tell precisely why.
@mauriciolacruz4 жыл бұрын
@@m.a.s.engineeringgadgets4867 But apparently the 800 (and all retractable tip mechanical pencils in general) suffer from wobble / rattle / play on their tips (and also sometimes on the back part), making them far less precise / accurate / solid than fixed tip mechanical pencils like the Rotring 600. And that's the reason why I decided to go for the 600 and skip the 800 and Rapid Pro (the latter also for having plastic thread).

A late response but the hole is to avoid eraser being dried so it stays soft

Thanks for your comment! Do you feel it differently on the hand? Somehow I like the feeling of the 800 better, like I can swing it better while writing. The 600 I feel it's too compact, too solid.
