M&D’s Scotland’s Theme Park Vlog 18th April 2022

Join us as we visit M&D’s Scotland’s Theme Park for the first time in 6yrs and see what’s new and I ride my final coaster in Scotland
M&D’s is a small family owned and operated amusement park just south of Glasgow in Scotland and has a whole host of traveling rides plus a Crazy Golf, indoor entertainment complex and a indoor tropical exhibit
This is our 2nd ever visit to M&D’s and over the 6yrs not a lot has changed apart from a few ride changes, the biggest change is the removal of Tornado the huge twin looping coaster which was sold to a park in the south of France

Damn, this place definitely has that feel of one of those _Roller Coaster Tycoon_ scenarios where you have to refurbish a declining park before it shuts for good (Fiasco Forest, Rotting Heights, Megaworld Park in the original, etc.) written all over it. Asides from the indoor things seeming decent enough for what they are, it honestly just looks... *bad.* Which is a tremendous shame really, given that it's got a pretty ideal location and it's the only major(ish) park for Scotland ever since Loudon Castle went under. Personally, if it were up to me and I had the sufficient budget to do so, the first things I'd do (besides, of course, much improving working conditions for the staff) would likely include: > *Selling off most of the travelling funfair-tier rides/stands* for extra funds, *overhauling/theming the ones worthy of keeping* (in particular the Captain's Curse, Condor, maybe the Wacky Worm, etc.; mostly the semi-permanent and/or rare things), and *replacing them with a good selection of fewer, but better-quality park model flat rides.* Quality over quantity, and all that! > Of those, an important one (restrictions permitting) would *have to be a tall view-based gentle ride that takes advantage of the beautiful views across the country park.* Something like a giant wheel or an Intamin Super Gyro (observation tower); maybe go for Scotland's tallest on either account to attain maximum draw! > To use the area around where Tornado was, *a compact but thrilling (and on a reasonable budget) coaster* would work excellently. Something like an overhauled Vekoma Boomerang (including the new trains with the non-headbanging restraints, ala _Flying Cobras_ at Carowinds), S&S 4D Free Spin, or even a Gerstlauer custom Eurofighter could work! > I would *keep the Mine Train Coaster, but give it a complete overhaul;* fix it up (especially the brake system, and perhaps some new trains), move it closer to the indoor section, and have it reworked as a nicely-themed indoor coaster with special effects (ala _Astro Storm_ at Brean or the old _Raptor Attack_ at Lightwater Valley) that's accessible from the aforementioned indoor bit, so you've got an all-weather thrilling attraction that's a good draw even in the slightly unpredictable Scottish weather. If that's not possible, then another mid-size one like say, a Preston & Barbieri Anaconda 2.0 (ala _Sea Viper_ at Palace Playland) could work! > *A good new family coaster is a must.* Something like a Gravity Group family wooden coaster (ala _Wooden Warrior_ at Quassy, _Oscar's Wacky Taxi_ at Sesame Place, or _Kentucky Flyer_ at Kentucky Kingdom) I believe would be ideal; given that it'd be thrilling but fun for all the family, and it'd have the unique accolade of being the only wooden coaster in Scotland. > *Give the park more defined and higher-quality (but still affordable) theming throughout,* including indoors. What's already there inside (particularly around the American Diner) could be a good basis! > Perhaps *add a new expansion/attraction for the big indoor section of the park* to compliment things like the bowling, arcade, eateries and overhauled Mine Train Coaster. Something like electric go-karts, themed dodgems (ala Codona's), a second mini-golf course or a skating rink could work? > *Set aside a good deal of space nearby for future expansion* once the new levels of profit and popularity allow it. Mostly just the tip of the iceberg at this point, but the general focus would be improving what's there and otherwise starting off relatively small and reasonably-priced, but with good theming and unique attractions (like how a lot of major parks start out), enough to make a good profit each time and keep guests coming back, and then slowly expanding outward from there to truly turn it into somewhere worth visiting! Thoughts?

M&Ds has always seemed to me to be quite a good location for an amusement/theme park, however it never fully hit the mark, even less so now. It's disappointing that Scotland doesn't have a decent park with good selection of rides including some coasters. Whilst we're not a large country, we do get quite a lot of tourists (pre covid) and I'm convinced when tourism fully returns a well located park with good attractions would do well. Even with our sometimes unpredictable weather!

Another good vlog, yeah talking about Ally Law, remember he climbed a rollercoaster at that park, think he climb up the lift hill? Not sure as it was a long time ago, but yeah climbed over the fence and climbed that coaster. It was all abandoned though with grass and plants overgrown on it when he climb on it aswell a bit rusty. But yeah, there you go. Shame what happened to this park, nearly closing down permanently, but now good to hear its back open again. Could do with a big coasters like you get at Merlin Parks, hoping this is something they build in future? But for now, just maybe focus on temporary attractions I think? Then maybe invest in something big? At least for now, stick to portable and traveling type of rides, coasters and attractions? But yeah, another good video, really enjoyed and look forward to seeing more videos in future. 😀👍

Oh thanks for reminding me, yeah I was told the old high ropes course was sold to M&D’s tbh tho I have no idea why they would want to buy it !? It wasn’t popular at Clarence Pier and went all rusty from being next to the sea

It could be better the park but it's better than nothing at all in Scotland I suppose great vlog like always mate I do have beliefs that m&ds will in the future when we least expect it will make an big come back and get more better rides and roller coasters soon some point in the future hopefully and since it is next to the Loch then I think that it would be an good idea to change the name of the park from m&ds to Loch view theme park I think that it was a shame that they got rid of the tornado looping coaster and the mad mouse as it. Was Scotlands only spinning coaster. as that is what made it more like an theme park having them roller-coasters and I think that it would be an good name for the park in my opinion to change the name of the park to Loch view theme park

So sad to see so many rides removed. I think a change in ownership is needed and investment back in to revive the park but I think there saftey record like you said about tornado it shouldnt have been sent with a tied seatbelt has been a major part in the parks demise

People forget including myself but M&D’s actually went bankrupt during Covid and they reopened as a Ltd company, it’s really sad as it looks worse than it was 6yrs ago during my last visit

Did you get to do their ghost train? Do they have one? I see this park a lot on Roller Ghoster’ vlog. Looks nice but it’s tough with so many rides that travel . I love seeing Tilly sooo much she is a cutie.

M&Ds is amazing in the inside but outside is horrendous it use to be amazing back in 2009 2010 2011 and 2012 The Bomber mark 2 buggie flying carpet big wheel they should have changed the rollercosters to more extreme and fun but oh well

I’ve nothing against Scotland at all, as mentioned and shown in this vlog we hired a motorhome and drove hundreds of miles and loved every minute of it, wouldn’t have gone to Scotland if we didn’t like it, just needs a proper theme park

And then I hear people down south talk about scottish money as if its a foreign currency. very frustrating.
