This Menuetto & Trio in B-flat of Michael Haydn is perform’d on this recording about 25% too fast - it is best-play’d at 75% to 80% speed to get the full flavor of the proper slower Menuetto speed-also the pitch is set at A=440hz where the A was tun’d in Michael Haydn’s day (1760s to 1790s) at 430-432hz to judge from the metal tuning forks (cf the two own’d by Leopold Mozart) and Orgel-pipes of the period - so it should produce a far more majestic and ‘aristocratic’ effect if tun’d Down nearly half a step and taken at a more leisurely ‘aristocratic’ late-18th Century pace
