In fact, the federal government has recorded budget surpluses in five years since 1969, most of them under Democratic President Bill Clinton. The last time the U.S. had a budget surplus was in 2001.

thanks simon. A question: can trump administration require/request china to substantially use up its US-China trade surplus to buy up US treasury to suppress bond yield, as a tradeoff for sanction, as least partially, that could help with US fiscal deficit?
