"Acknowledge" vs. "Recognize" Taiwan is not part of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), and the United States is certainly aware of this. In fact, within the “Three U.S.-PRC Joint Communiques” and the U.S. "One China Policy" (in contrast to the PRC's "One China Principle"), there has been no “recognition” that Taiwan belongs to China, whether under the PRC regime or the Republic of China (ROC) regime. In the first communique, the U.S.-PRC Joint Communique (1972), the U.S. stated: > "The U.S. side declared: The United States acknowledges that all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China." Translation: > "The United States acknowledges that all Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait believe there is only one China and that Taiwan is part of China." In the second communique, the U.S.-PRC Joint Communique (1979), point two reads: > "The United States of America recognizes the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal Government of China." Translation: > "The United States recognizes the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal Government of China." Then, in point seven: > "The Government of the United States of America acknowledges the Chinese position that there is but one China and Taiwan is part of China." Translation: > "The U.S. Government acknowledges the Chinese position that there is only one China and Taiwan is part of China." In diplomatic and legal contexts, “recognizes” and “acknowledges” hold distinct meanings. In critical situations, precise wording is essential. In a 2014 report by the U.S. Congress, it explicitly states: > "The United States has its own 'One China' policy (vs. the PRC’s 'One China' principle) and position on Taiwan’s status. Not recognizing the PRC’s claim over Taiwan nor Taiwan as a sovereign state, U.S. policy has considered Taiwan’s status as unsettled." Translation: > "The United States has its own One China Policy and position on Taiwan’s status. The U.S. does not recognize the PRC’s claim over Taiwan nor Taiwan as a sovereign state and considers Taiwan’s status as undetermined." Since the U.S. considers Taiwan’s status unresolved, it only “acknowledges” the PRC's statements. Following WWII, the San Francisco Peace Treaty indicated that Japan renounced its sovereignty over Taiwan and the Pescadores, without assigning them to any country. This aligns with the U.S. position that Taiwan and the Pescadores do not belong to any sovereign state. As Taiwan’s and the Pescadores’ sovereignty remains undetermined, the most legitimate and effective path to equal status among nations is for Taiwan and the Pescadores’ residents to exercise their right to self-determination as former colonial subjects of Japan and, through the process of decolonization, establish a truly sovereign and independent state.

The U.S. One China policy is grounded in general principles of international law: (1) a sovereign state can have only one legitimate government; and (2) territorial sovereignty must be transferred through legal means. The U.S. One China policy will remain in place until Taiwan becomes a sovereign state.
@hungi888Күн бұрын
The One China policy should not be applied to the Allied Powers' military occupation entity or Taiwan. The Allied Powers' military occupation entity can serve as an interim bridge between Taiwan and the international community. This entity could participate in the United Nations and affiliated organizations as an observer, representing the people of Taiwan, though it is ineligible for full membership, as only sovereign states can be UN members. Ultimately, the solution lies in Taiwan achieving full independence as a sovereign state. This is not a choice between reunification with or separation from China; rather, it is about completing Taiwan’s decolonization process.

Love this episode as well! Two gentlemen who understand what they’re talking about with no bias.
Thank you for creating this video. I shared it with my son-in-law, who supports Trump's idea that Taiwan should pay a protection fee to the U.S., a stance I disagree with. I hope this video will convince him understand my perspective.

There are no forever friends or enemies. Today's friends can be tomorrow's stranger. Depend on a stronger self should always be the first choose. Any international help should be seen as an " an icing on the cake ". It is great to have it and we are greatful for it but we stand firm on the ground even if we do not have it 😊

choosing a next U.S. president is no different than choosing a surgery doctor. I care about his success rate rather than his faulty personality.
😂😂😂 I totally agree with Kalama IS a just a puppet of staff sine she was nominated as VP from day one. She doesn’t think! It is a very tough decision this year for many people this time.
It's a good thing we're friends with the U.S. This is a much clearer way to put it, and like Lucas, Taiwan is unfamiliar with these two presidential candidates. However, I have personally seen these things: It is said that Trump went to China and concluded that China's characteristics are America's enemies, so the U.S. government underwent a 180-degree change, and the U.S.-China trade war took place; entrepreneurs cultivate expertise in negotiation, and dedicate themselves to diplomatic accomplishments, which is a suitable choice. As long as you have the ordinary judgment of a businessman, you can do it; you don't have the coordination ability of a politician's specialty, but you can use the tools with precision and effectiveness, and you have an impressive bombing campaign, which is the way to make the negotiators lose the resistance mentality in diplomacy, and so you will have the confidence to face Afghanistan and the Russian-Ukrainian war, which is just something that we can't understand by normal methods. Taiwan and the United States have been together for more than a hundred years, the American friends have paid too much, the world has also received too much, the cost of peace is not entirely a matter of American friends, Trump is committed to fairness and reasonableness, it is a normal behavior, many countries are too much access to benefits other than fairness, which is already a sin, there is a Chinese saying that “the grace of the rice, the hatred of the rice,” which is very appropriate; the world's compatriots of mankind, but also walked through the dangerous era of self-determination of nations to build a country. After World War II, from 1945 to the present, 135 newly independent countries have emerged in the world, and Taiwan has been “treated like no other country in the world”. We are capable of dealing with them, and it is an unavoidable responsibility. The disaster that the Democratic Party has brought to the United States is so huge that it requires unimaginable opportunity and cost to return to American values. To put it politely, the President of the Republic of China is the best partner for Taiwan, only that we did not have the opportunity in the past, and in the process of cooperation, Mr. Trump, like all sectors of the U.S. community, will understand that Taiwan is a friend of the U.S. This requires opportunity and cost, and we are fortunate that we have all of them, so don't forget Taiwan, and that we cannot leave international trade and that we cannot leave international trade. It is impossible to leave international trade, and similar countries, foreign affairs fools, but can be negotiated. It is rumored that when Hillary and Mr. Trump were competing for the presidency, there were times when Taiwan was used as a trading object, and the political calculations of the Democratic Party were evaluated; and most importantly, in this era of openness and transparency in public affairs, totalitarian dictatorships are entering their twilight years, and dying counterattacks have resulted in their defeat. The dynastic system used in the last civilization, after the fatal wound of blood diamond purchase is exhausted, the most common thing is to start a war to fight for the survival of the regime, and to become the world's public enemy, Mr. Trump's choice will not be too difficult, and our American friends don't need to choose.

@0:41 that view is so narrow i can't believe that it came out of his mouth, the fundamental question is, with a successful businessman, what else is he good at? sure, making money is a big part of it, but what else makes a successful businessman?, the answer is "art of negotiation"......... trump isn't a billionaire without a pretty damn good reason, he is also good at marketing, as well as making good negotiations to go through any kind of deal? and you might say ya ya blah blah politicians don't make deals? wrong! anybody with the opposite side of the table always makes a deal that satisfy both parties. so we've already got trump in the previous 4 years, and didn't turn out too bad btw, we'll see how the following 4 years goes

When Trump says that Taiwan should pay us for defense many people twist his words as protection money, a terminology used in the gangland circles. In fact his meaning is completely different from protection money or 保護費. When we talk about protection money it usually means the bullies or rascals will attack or hurt you if you don't give them the protection money but Trump doesn't mean he wants to hurt you if you don't pay the money. This principle also applies to Japan, Korea and NETO. Biden has said many times he'll send military to protect Taiwan if Taiwan is invaded but unlike Biden Harris said Taiwan has the duty or right to protect itself if it's invaded. the underlying meaning is Taiwan should defend itself and USA is only a bystander. In fact Harris is only another Obama and viewers Taiwan as another Chinese city of Hong Kong when Hong Kong is only a city but Taiwan is an independent country even though few major countries have diplomatic relationships with Taiwan under the pressure from China.
