The M&Ms were well liked mascots known for unique and entertaining personalities that kids and adults could enjoy because they were simple while still having a bit of an adult sense of humor with some of the jokes (they literally eat m&ms on many occasions despite being said candy, and everyone is kind of aware of how weird it is). Now in a time where everything is trying to be progressive to appeal to an overly vocal minority that has generally bullied everyone in compliance to avoid being accused of bigotry, you really want to enjoy what hasn't been forced to become inclusive or politically correct to escape an artificially inclusive and politically correct media and society, but there's just less and less of that now so people are becoming more and more enraged because things that aren't even controversial or political are being remade and baby proofed so that companies don't face these same accusations. I can tell you a lot of people are fed up with "inclusive and diversity" because it means little compared to the actual quality of something. It's just another way for businesses to sell their products while spouting out how progressive they are so that they can hide truck loads of skeletons in their closets.
