I watch Eurovision every year since the 80s and this years winner just took me by surprise, steamrolled over me. Like yourselves, I didn't understand a word (maybe 2 or 3...) but the energy in the live performance took me out of a 15 month depression from Covid (Australia probably in a different mental state compared to the UK ?). Imagine this band comes on stage at Eurovision and gives us suddenly the feeling of a real life concert, with enormous chemistry, female bass player, sick beat, and quintessential voice. On top of that, they are 21 years old and have already 2 Platinum albums. Sadly, I am addicted now and cannot focus on my work ........

I'm so glad you did this! I've fallen hard for this band precisely because the performances are so good I could get the meaning of the songs and be affected by them even before looking up the lyrics. Lyrically Vent'anni is one of my favourites of theirs (they did an X Factor performance of it that had me in the feels even though I understood 0 of the lyrics at the time). It's pretty easy to find lyric translations online and some of the songs have translated lyric videos. But they have blown up since Eurovision. Their album (which is amazing btw) Teatro D'Ira is like 4th in the global spotify charts rn. They have a lot of very good songs. If you want to check out one of their earlier songs Moriro Da Re is cool (they were aged like 17/18- they're 20-22 now) but Torna a Casa is their big early one. If you want some epic guitar In Nome Del Padre is great but La Paura Del Buio is another epic in 3 minutes. Basically everything they release but especially from their second album. They can do ballad and hard rock and funky stuff. Definitely consider getting into this band they're well worth it. (And also check out Vent'anni with lyrics :D ).

Guys this Måneskin song is amazing, especially the version they sang at the San Remo Festival with an orchestral score as part of the song; brilliant stuff. This is an angst song about discrimination, acceptance and inclusion. It is about being who you are 'sans' repercussions for being different. It is about the negative affects that result from discrimination. You do lose a lot in translation, but the lyrics are roughly like this, not including the 'inappropriate' words they used originally in San Remo, I included one: "Zitti e Buoni" meaning basically to 'Zip up and be good' "They don't know what I'm talking about Bruh, cloths dirty with mud Yellow on your fingers from cigs Walking about with a cig I'm sorry, but I'm so sure I can afford to take the leap Even if it's an uphill climb That's why I'm training And good evening, ladies and gentlemen Let the actors on the scene You better touch wood You better be quiet and behave People here are odd, like pushers I spent too many nights outdoors Now I'm going around kicking on these doors Looking upwards, like a climber So, I'm sorry mom if I'm always out, but I'm out of my mind, just not like them And you're out of your mind, just not like them We're out of our mind, just not like them We're out of our mind, just not like them No I have written pages over pages I've seen salt and then tears These men on their cars Unable to climb against the rapids Carved on a gravestone "There's no god in my home" But if you understand the meaning of time You'll rise back up from your oblivion And no wind can stop Natural power From the right point of view You can feel the euphoria brought by the wind With wings of wax on my back I'll seek out that height If you're trying to stop me, try again Try and cut my head off Because I'm out of my mind, just not like them And you're out of your mind, just not like them We're out of our mind, just not like them We're out of our mind, just not like them People talk, unfortunately They talk, and they don't know what they're talking about Just take me where I can stay afloat 'Cause here I can't breathe People talk, unfortunately They talk, and they don't know what they're talking about Just take me where I can stay afloat 'Cause here I can't breathe People talk, unfortunately They talk, and they don't know what the fuck they're talking about Just take me where I can stay afloat 'Cause here I can't breathe But I'm out of my mind, just not like them And you're out of your mind, just not like them We're out of our mind, just not like them We're out of our mind, just not like them We're not like them

Måneskin pronounciation guide: The "å" looks like an "a" but it is a Danish letter that isn't pronounced like an "a" at all (Victoria the bass player is ½ Danish, and the name means moonlight/moonshine). Think of the o in "oh"/"no"/"so". So phonetically it is more like M'oh'neskin or even 'Moan'eskin. If you want to be even more precise in the pronounciation, the "å" is actually the first ½ of the "o" in "oh" etc. When pronouncing "oh" etc you tend to go down a bit at the end, almost like saying "ouh". The "å" is pronounced exactly like the very first sound across your lips when saying "oh". Hope this helps :)

I'm a real metalcore/hardcore/deathcore fan. but I am also a super big Eurovision Song Contest fan. if I have to work a late shift on that day. then I will always switch with a colleague. the nice thing about eurovision is the diversity in songs. from very classical to this pure rock from Italy. as well as old folk songs. or for Finland, for example, a nu-metal band participated. there is sometimes false singing, costumes are over the top. acts seem crazy. sometimes funny. but above all a sense of unity is what makes eurovision so unique. Nice reaction! The entire album Teatro d'ira (Theatre of Wrath) is amazing, heavier songs on the album would be In Nome del padre (In the Name of the Father), Lividi sui Gomiti (Bruises on Elbows) and Paura del Buio (Fear of the Dark) if that's your thing but all of songs are great they have some epic rock ballads too like Coraline and Torna a Casa (Come back home) and they do some English language brit post punk inspired songs like I wanna be your slave. There are homages to classic 70s rock like For Your Love. I also highly reccomend listening to their live cover of an 80s classic italian punk song called Armondoti (originally by CCCP) From Il Ballo Della Vita which is their previous album: Morirò da re (Die as a King) La Parole Lontane (The Distant Words) I would highly recommend looking up the translation on the lyrics to all of their songs as Damiano the singer, writes all the lyrics, the Italian songs in particular are poetry and they give another layer of complexity and depth to the music.

I heard one of their interviews and they said it was originally meant to be a ballad. Love the rock version but would like to know how it would sound as a ballad.

I do hope you watched the live performance, it was brilliant. The lyrics are great too. They are a genuinely great band. Please check out some more italian ones, there are some very cool performers.
