Issues with the 22lr round as an SD ammo aside, I think the M&P22Compact is a wonderful platform for new carry. Light weight, sufficient capacity, low recoil, and small enough for smaller sized hands. Plenty of safety options for wider range of carry situations. Overall a dependable platform for the 22lr. If I chose to carry a gun chambered in 22lr, I would chose this one.

Thanks for your comments. We agree, the .22 wouldn't be first choice for carry. But as you pointed out this M&P 22 compact is lightweight, easy to operate, a great trainer, and something that might be appropriate for some people who are recoil sensitive (or have physical limitations).

I fired one at the range that belonged to one of the instructors. I think I'm going to get rid of my .22 SW Victory and get this. My wife shoots the heavier gun (Victory) and she does well with it but I think she'd do better with this lighter one. I have 3 SW 9's and 1 SW .380 - love them all!

Actually it save the use a ton of money if you train every week. Ammo is far less expensive. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you might consider subscribing.

I haven't shot Aguila 22 ammo but Remington Thunderbolt seems to be the Dirtiest I've found. CCI Standard Velocity is the most accurate without buying Premium Target rounds !

Can you recommend a holster for the M&P 22 Compact? Prefer kydex and it can be IWB or OWB.

I'm a southpaw so holsters are hard to find I ended up getting a colapsable holster from Walmart and a waistband holster off Amazon they both work really well so far and hold and firearm I own and even being on my bike I can't tell it's there

as far as the magazine disconnect, its my understanding that it's not a good idea to dry fire rim fire guns... truth or myth? could the magazine disconnect be a preventative for that condition?
@gerryk31147 жыл бұрын
xyz32738 S&W says in the Manual Not to Dry Fire the Gun ! I've Had Mine ever since it hit the Market and it Eats everything ! A lot of Fun to Shoot ! Rule of Thumb: Never Dry Fire a Rim Fire Gun !!! However, RUGER says it's OK to Dry Fire their guns !
@melc80493 жыл бұрын
On a center fire round, the firing pin will hit nothing but air when dry firing. On a Rim fired round, the firing pin might hit the edge of the chamber and damaging it or the pin. Without the round in the chamber, there is no rim edge to contact and stop the pin from reaching the edge of the chamber. This is why you don't normally dry fire rim fired guns. It has nothing to do with the magazine disconnect. The magazine disconnect is just an additional "safety" feature required by some agencies for their issues weapons. For those that carry for personal self defense, it is just one more element that must be overcome to fire the weapon, and is NOT usually a desired feature, and also one more element that might fail and prevent proper usage of the weapon. This is also why many don't want manual safeties on their guns either.

On a practice type plinker 22 I am ok with a mag disconnect, on a self defense gun no way.

Not Anguilla. There is no n in the name. It is Aguila with the accent on the "Ag". Ag gee la. It means eagle.

I love this gun, but the ridiculously huge thumb safety sticks out like airplane wings and interferes with my grip.

Thanks for commenting. I think the intent is to be excessive so that people who are learning how to use an external safety can quickly find it and engage it.

Also the mag disconnect makes it a bad choice for in the field daily protection. This is not a good idea. Fix it S&W or lose sales. Only a flawless performance is expected from a c.c. gun. I own 9mmS&WM&P 9mm compact and full size 40 cal. S&WM&P never a problem. Accurate out of box. T 3 to set sights then took maybe 10 shots to get 2 in. groups rapid fire at 35 ft. So maybe a 22 cal is not such a good idea for field use. Unless you like close up in the face defense. Me if i gotta do it I'll do it a 35 ft not 15 and know he will go.down. Sorry but like a .25 cal. ,38 cal. ,308 cal. You need a bigger more accurate pistol of revolver.

Another bad demo. If i just shot 100 rds. the previous day. I would sure as hell shoot better anyone would. So i am left with yet another doubt about this pistol. Is it that inaccurate or is he a really a bad shot. So far two videos no pros using it and mistakes made. Not good for S&W. Not knowing this makes me doubt again if i would use for c.c..

I blame the trigger design. It forces the shooter to place their finger in an awkward spot to disengage the safety tab. Add that it's a touch mushy and you won't get the expected results of consistent shot placement. I'm willing to bet,if you put the gun in a vice and set up a trigger mechanism, you can get consistent, accurate shots. Eliminate the human factor.
