Hi there, absolutely loved this video~ You said in an earlier comment that you've since ordered the Rapido V3 clamp for stability. Do you think their Front Metal Jacket is necessary for stability as well? Asking because I'm considering your solution. Thanks!
@janisbrod
@janisbrod 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I wouldn't say it's _necessary_ but it definitely helps (since it has two support points then). The alternative would be only the V3 clamp and then another universal lens support in the front. But I guess the FMJ is a much more sleek and less "frankensteiney" setup.

@janisbrod
@janisbrod 5 жыл бұрын
I'd totally recommend this combo, as long as you don't go wider than 50mm. The only thing I missed during my trip was a clamp with rod support, it did misalign itself from time to time. But I ordered a Rapido V3 clamp right after we came back and now it's very solid.

Awesome! Did you have any problems with white vignetting?
@janisbrod
@janisbrod 4 жыл бұрын
I did, before I flocked the inside of the lens. It’s not completely gone afterwards but it’s much much better! There’s a tutorial on KZbin called something like „How to flock the hell out of your anamorphic lens“. It’s a bit scary to open it at first but it’s actually much easier than I expected. Also, when you put it back together you’ll have to fine-tune your infinity point and that will probably make your lens sharper than it was before opening. ;)

This is a gorgeous video! With the 50mm, what would you say the equivalent millimeter is?
@janisbrod
@janisbrod 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Around 55-57mm full frame equivalent in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. If I would have used the full width of the 2.66:1 image (4:3 mode with 2x anamorphic) it would be exactly 50mm equivalent.

Very nice. Did you use an ND Filter?
@janisbrod
@janisbrod 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Of course I did, I used the Tiffen variable ND. But it's not that great to be honest, there are definitely better ND-faders out there these days. My two main complaints are that it doesn't have hard stops so it's easy to go beyond the maximum and it doesn't have a filter thread in the front, so you can't put a cap on it. Also, it tends to make the colors somewhat brownish...

how did you manage with the aspect ratio, it is not so squeezed, as the sanker 16C is a 2x, usually the final result is more compressed, I like your version more, could you share how you did? For example here it is also a sanker 16C but the aspect ratio is more squeezed then yours:: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXq9nXZ_apt2bs0 I like yours more, please let me know Thank you
@janisbrod
@janisbrod Жыл бұрын
Just use simple 2.39:1 frame guides on your monitor and then crop in post accordingly. You'll always get the wider 2.66:1 aspect ratio (which your video is) when shooting with a 2x anamorphic lens on a 4:3 sensor. That's pretty standard and it's the same way on most professional film sets that shoot with anamorphics on the Alexa or classic 4-perf film. But the 2.39:1 aspect ratio is a much more common final format for cinema, so I just framed for that (using frame guides) and then had a 2.39:1 timeline for the edit (which cropped off a bit on both sides of the footage).
@ehmehhuh
@ehmehhuh 4 жыл бұрын
Is this a custom crop or straight from de-squeeze?
@janisbrod
@janisbrod 4 жыл бұрын
It's cropped to classic Cinemascope (2.39:1) because I'm not a huge fan of the overly wide 2.66:1 ratio. I set the frame guides in the GH5 to 2.39:1 so I could frame it properly - but it still records 2.66:1 (after desqueeze) so you'll have to crop it in your NLE.

@@janisbrod Hei Janis. so this is the thing that ive been really wondering. ive been watching many videos shot on sankor 16c with different cameras and they all mostly very wide and cropped. when i red this comment it made sense how to make it less wide. so do you think i can use the same method like u did here with Sony A7 iii? will i get the same ratio? I want Sony a7 iii so bad, but im in love with GH5's anamorphic looks. Thx Sorry for my bad grammer.
@janisbrod
@janisbrod 3 жыл бұрын
@@ZicoNadStarr You could basically get this with any camera. But you will definitely need an external field monitor with desqueeze, crop & scaling functions such as a SmallHD. The Sony doesn't have anamorphic features in-camera, so filming without a monitor would be super awkward. Also, keep in mind that the IBIS of the a7III won't work with anamorphic lenses.
