It's soft in every dialect of Swedish I know of, but I think it might be hard in Norwegian. That said, a Swedish soft g is not the same as an English soft g, so it's less like the 'g' in 'giant' and more like the 'y' in 'you'. ETA: Then again, you're right the official word from the designers is "Borg like the Star Wars guys are fine. Don’t try to do the weird Swedish borj sound. It’ll sound weird. Don’t go there."

The G in Borg and Bergen is pronounced as the letter J.

@@K_E_Robin Or rather as the Swedish pronunciation of the letter "J", which is not the same as the English pronunciation of the letter "J". That is why using the pronunciation of the letter "y" in "you" is a much better example for someone who doesn't speak Swedish.
