Hostess clubs, or "kyabakura" in Japan are a type of bar where guys go to drink and sit with pretty girls for a fee. Hostesses light cigarettes, pour drinks, and offer flirtatious conversation to entertain their customers. The prices range from reasonable to outrageous sums of money depending on where you go. We followed Kanae Murakami, a 20-year-old hostess who works in the upscale Ginza district of Tokyo.

Don't know if her actions with the teacher were a one off or the straw that broke the camel's back as far as her family. I do know that it takes a very brave person (especially Japanese) to show her world to us, and for that glimpse into reality I thank her. Then again, could be a way to get revenge on her parents by shaming them further. Unfortunately or fortunately ???, her work is like an American stripper and eventually she will have to get out of it when age sets in. Hope she gets a second chance. She may have redemption as she is not totally evil as she shows by trying to date at the expense of her income. I have known (never dated, etc.) these Japanese women and it really varies as to their values. Some are pure evil and some simply do it for the freedom of income and a fast lifestyle. They can really compartmentalize their life. Significant others, as she said, may not like it too much, however. Her lifestyle is pretty much accepted by most Japanese peers as far as I can tell. She could move to another country and start over with a foreigner who will never know her past. Happens more often than you may think. Hope that response was not too lengthy. In this age everyone wants snarky Tweeter-length comments.

There's nothing wrong in being ugly, just for the fact that is not a choice you have but it's something nature gives you ( i'm noot handsome aswell ) should put an end on the talk. But i think we all agree that to make a living in such a profession as the one depicted in the video you MUST be pretty cause noone is willing to pay to spend a night with a ugly girl as those who pay don't want to pass a night talking about politics or astrophysics they just want to spend a night in the company or a good looking girl. One question *****. Have you ever lived/been in Japan. I've been there several times and even worked for a Japanese company and can assure you that some girls, once free of all artifice (make up, contact lenses etc) are at most 4's, yet they are popular kyabajo's and make serious income. male hosts have harder time because they are forced to drink excessive amount of alcohol every day and that will destroy their health in no time. if they don't drink or "party" with their clients, they get beat up or get fired. they just look like they are having fun, because they are really forcing it. men's world can be more brutal.

Sounds like there is always a worry of the guys being a bit too forward. Especially when she said of the clients she'd get late at night pulling out the cash on her. I imagine that was a bit pressuring along with the failed relationships she has had with the clients. I know both the men and women have to drink a lot and there's always that risk of not fully consenting in those situations.
