Thank you. Field striped and clean my late Dad's M1 last night. Took about 45 minutes to clean it. Then about 1 hour to put it back together. I must have watched that part about the fiddly bits 20 times in part 4 of this series.

Great info, as always. You should do more total disassembly videos. I've been restoring and maintaining a lot of firearms lately for friends and family, and I want to learn how to be a gunsmith. I disassemble the gun down to the smallest piece that I can safely do with my skill, remove anything any little speck of dust that a Marine Corps drill instructor could even dream of finding fault with, then give everything a coat of Ballistol, lubricate where needed, leave dry the parts that need to be dry, etc. The problem is, a lot of the firearms I've been working with aren't shown in YT videos. Or only the field strip phase is shown, or the disassembly won't show how to take the bolt and trigger group totally apart, or the person's hands are in the way so a specific step is poorly shown, etc. The worst is when there is a YT video that shows the steps required for total disassembly that I need to see, but it's part of a video about customization or high level gunsmith stuff that I can't do or don't have the tools for. So the video is named something else other than "Firearm X total disassembly and reassembly" or "Firearm X part Y total disassembly and reassembly," and so it takes me hours to find. So, if you would go through common firearms and show how to take them apart down to the last little spring with clearly and systematically named videos, I would greatly appreciate it. Firearms like the Savage 110, Marlin 880, and ones that there aren't videos for on YT. I think that would help a lot of people and spread firearm knowledge. Any help with how to clean, restore, and maintain firearms in general would also be appreciated. Thanks again for sharing free gun info

If it hasn’t already been pointed out, when opening the bolt be sure it is locked back to it’s rearmost position. It is a fairly common mistake for the inexperienced to not pull it alll the way back and have the bolt catch on the back of the follower. This will hold it back but if the rifle is jarred or the follower is bumped even a little the bolt will slam shut. If a finger or thumb is in the way it will get smashed. You probably won’t bleed but you will cuss.

Tury Ruiz I'm assuming you've both got a stamped trigger guard rather than the earlier milled type shown in the video. It doesn't have the hole in it like the one in the video and was made towards the end of WWII and into the post war years. Disassembly is the exact same as the milled. Use your finger and pull back on the rear of the trigger guard and then up.

Use a round (.30-06) to move the trigger to the rear. All you need to tear down an M1 is a .30-06 round. Never tap on the front sight to remove the gas cylinder. You should tap on the bayonet lug. You obviously don't know crap about an M1. USMC '69 - '73; Vietnam '71 - '72.

@devildoc225
@devildoc225 4 жыл бұрын
Not weird. A tight fit is good. The gas cylinder should not be removed very often. Over time, the splines keeping it in place, will enlarge, and make a sloppy fit. Not a good thing for a part of the rifle operating under pressure. Last thing you need is gas leakage around the port.
