Not gonna lie, I see why Apple chose this design. Despite criticism, I absolutely love it! Before I heard any opinions about it my initial reaction was impressed. This is still the very beginning of Apple Silicon so I am even more excited for what we will see in just 2 more years.

I took delivery and set up my blue 24 inch iMac yesterday...it's the 512GB SSD 16GB RAM 8CPU 8GPU version and it replaces my 21.5 inch 2012 iMac i5 8GBRAM 256GB SSD and of course, display, speed, you name it....better in every way. Since the one I'm replacing is over 8 years old with ZERO problems (but no longer able to upgrade. It stopped at Catalina) I fully expect to get my money's worth. Working with the new one for the past 24 hours, it is a solid piece of machinery. I loaded everything manually yesterday from audio software to WORD to antivirus to malware protection and hooked up the printer and external CD....it all went flawlessly. I'm up and running and LOVING the new iMac. By the way, the chin?? No big deal. It actually looks smaller than the old chin to me and the white bezel? Perfect. It disappears when viewing the screen. I think a black bezel would have been the WRONG choice. It's all GOOD.

The fact that both video and audio are from the built in camera really shocked me in the beginning. Awesome quality! Let's hope laptop manufacturers focus more on video and mic quality from now on. edit: was talking about laptop webcams and mics

Really nice machine. All the tech reviewers are complaining about the same things. Too thin. White bezels. Chin. Lack of ports. I think it’s stunning. The chin is iconic. The white bezels make it stand out from every other monitor. And the thin body is super trendy. M1 chip is plenty powerful. This is going to fly off the shelves. My 2017 iMac is getting swapped for this. In yellow.

I found this very helpful in my quest to upgrade one of my macs and suddenly coming across this new M1 thing with 'only' 16GB memory. It answered most of my questions, particularly about speed. I bought a low spec 21" mac for 'writing only' work last year and its slowness drives me to despair - big mistake. I think this will be a much better option. Meanwhile my 27" iMac from 2017 still doing great in the office!

The new-for-2021 24" M1 iMac is an impressive overall design. 1080p webcam & mic is impressive. Much easier to relocate. No more spinning hard drives. M1 processor is truly a breath of fresh air. TouchID is a great addition but only available as an upgrade option. Aesthetic concerns being voiced on KZbin are non-issues and a waste of time. (One exception: why does no one on KZbin ask why the new iMac doesn't have the word "iMac" on the chin?) One detail few on KZbin discuss: Is it true that a VESA-mounted iMac can be rotated 90º to use in portrait orientation? If so, this is a major unsung benefit for people who want to do intensive word pro or DTP work across a variety of marketplace software, from Apple's Pages and Microsoft Word to Adobe InDesign. The biggest major design issue in the new M1 iMac is not visible and not aesthetic. It's the omissions. Why does the M1 Mac Mini offer USB-A ports but the new M1 iMac does not? Rumor has it that the pending 14" and 16" MacBook Pros will offer SD card slots again. Why not on this M1 iMac? This isn't a thickness form factor issue; if Apple can put a headphone jack along the side of the display, they can also equip that side with a USB-A port and an SD card slot. (And while they're at it, they could offer another USB-C port that's easy to get to. This purging of ports doesn't do iMac users any favors. It's 2021, and I still use devices such as a D-SLR, a GoPro and a pro-grade GPS device for mapping. No of these devices are vanishing any time soon. And people still use thumb drives.

i brought imac m1 24 certified refurbished 16gb 1ssd for under 1800.00 and i love it. Although i find this to be somewhat of downgrade in screen size i am able to work with it and go full bore and run with it without the machine breaking a sweat. however i still gravitate to my bigger 27inch for screen real estate purposes.

Thanks for not panning the new iMac as a lesser unit like so many critics have. It's really a nice upgrade from the past...Intel processor, much less heat, better sound and camera all before getting to the computing performance, which is rather nice. My unit arrived a week ago and I really like it...and the new look. White bezels, purple smezels, who cares? It looks nice and the chin shows off the nice fresh color of the unit. It's a Mac not an industrial computer from Dell. It's a work of art, not something meant to be part of a factory floor. Yes, you need to spend two-grand and get a solid hit from this updated technology. You will be glad you did. A year from now 10GB bandwidth and at least 2TB solid-state memory will be passe'. Enjoy the zeitgeist, man.

great video! how do we check the compatibility of some apps? I'm looking for an upgrade from my 27" iMac 2015 model with 16 GB RAM and 3.3 GHz Intel i5 but I cannot yet find much if apps for motion graphics and music production would work seamlessly, or rather feel like an upgrade. The apps I am looking out for are - Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Pioneer Rekordbox and Ableton Live along with installation of 3rd party plugins and scripts on the same. If these are all somehow compatible and would have a significant difference on the M1, would definitely love to upgrade!

One of the hardest things to see was the internal layout view - once you realise the computer's all in the chin it does feel like they could've put *more* computer in there and made it a bit thicker. It's probably just to get the numbers up on the M1 user base, and then the next iteration / 27" iMac / 14/16" MBP will have the next step up... who knows. ...but what felt great on a 13" laptop feels a bit lost potential on the iMac.

I think it helps save on materials. The thicker the device, the more aluminum it needs to cover. Also, it’s wasted space if thicker. Separating the heat from the display makes sense. I’m not an expert on engineering, but it seems like a better solution from lumping everything behind another component that’s creating it’s own heat. I think that the chin is there to distinguish itself from a generic monitor. If they went to the design of the XDR display, they wouldn’t have anywhere to improve the design to other than the thickness. Over time, the chin and the bezels can slim down. It’s going to be a long time before we see another big design change.

@@Thetechchap I’m debating either getting the iMac or a Mac mini. I like the portability of the MacBooks, but I already have an iPad Air. A long time ago, in the same galaxy, I had an iMac, but couldn’t keep it for money reasons. I feel if I keep waiting, I’ll never buy 😬. The purple is nice, but don’t think that’s my color. Another KZbinr brought up that the orange model’s pastel color on the chin looked like flesh color which has kinda turned me off from that color iMac altogether lol. Damn apple and their numerous color choices 😂.

I’m really glad you showed the checkout process because I thought it automatically came with the trackpad and mouse or keyboard and didn’t know you had to select them all. I definitely want to wait for a year or two and see how it holds up in the long run. I love the accessibility of apple products and I want to get back to that setup, after switching to a windows powered PC. It works for graphic design, and it can handle the programs I need. But you can’t really beat apple’s built in screens. They have amazing sharpness and color gamut. I’ve always been torn between the idea of the all in one or the Mac mini. One day I suppose I’ll have to choose 🤷‍♀️

The only roadblock with the M1 computers is that if you use x64 CISC Intel based kernel extensions ( or kexts), then the M1 becomes sluggish at times and has trouble even opening apples own applications. Docker has an issue with running containers meant for Intel machines, and it seems to be currently a qemu bug. The firefox and the Servo browsers build systems don’t work as of yet, which was disappointing to find out. OpenGL support on MacOS is stuck at 4.1, but at least Vulkan now fully supports the M1. There’s also the issue of using extra ifdefs within cmake but that’s a simple fix yada yada. Overall great computer, but needs constant configuration

I’m really confused about their choice to go with touchID and not faceID. Seems like a major misstep. I use face unlock on my desktop PC (windows hello) so when I got the iPad Pro it felt right at home.
