No one every talks about all the software that just comes with Mac. I just built a pc for gaming and I had to buy/rent Microsoft Word and Excel for school. My Mac comes with Pages, Numbers, or things like Time Machine, Disk Utility, Network Utility. The amount of apple software that you get out of the box, not to mention macOS and most of it is actually good if not great.

I can vouch with the productivity suit. MS suit of apps is very expensive to purchase. And I know you some might argue there are a ton of other options that are cheaper. But come on... why would I pay for something when I can get it for free, right?

Bought the basic Version after I see a test video and never regret it. Music production with Logic Pro is a charm....Complex tracks and CPU is at 20% load and the fan is on idle :)

For just $300 bucks more you get: - A 13inch P3 screen - An illuminated keyboard - A trackpad - A fingerprint reader - Speakers - Mic - Webcam - Batteries - And last but not least, mobility If you can buy all those things (Apple quality) for $300 let me know so I can get some too. The mac Mini is actually the WORST purchase from apple. If you want a mini or just have 700 bucks, do your thing. But if we're talking about value, it's the worst one.

Well, the ARM chips work quite differently from x86 chips. You might not be able to just crank up single core performance and buffer it with a big fan or add external RAM and expect the same performance as if it was on the SOC and so on. GPUs probably won't work. So in some ways I think it will be amazing, and on other ways I think people will be upset.

Well, it's the biggest thing to happen in a long time in tech. As for being biased towards the M1, I don't agree. I've never owned a mac my whole life until I got a MBA M1 before Christmas and it's everything they say it is.

@@texyrexy I have no particular warm feelings towards Apple and I'm so used to Windows (30+ years) that I'd use that if I could choose. But when I compare my twice as expensive XPS 13 2018 with the Air M1 it's like comparing a HDD to an SSD. It really is that much better. The faster the PC side switches to ARM, the better.

I agree it is very impressive but his comparisons are what are wrong. For example he says faster app launching was due to having a higher single core cpu which that isnt the case, its newer and will have a faster hard drive and the chip is just more optimised as it is from apple so will boot a couple seconds or so faster. then when he compared it to another pre built system he said, it will run a lot slower yet the cpu was 8% slower. then he compared the gpu performance to graphics cards that are 2 generations old. you are just as likely to get something wrong on them compared to other pre built computers, then says you can pick whatever accessories you want which is the case as its a desktop and you can do that with all other desktops.

My new M1 Mac Mini system is almost complete. I await the next stimulus check to buy a 16 gig M1 Mac Mini & 32" BenQ wide monitor. I have purchased all the other accessories with my Social Security checks. Arghhhh!! I have some great leftover goodies from my defunct iMac desktop including my Wacom pen/touch tablet and Bose Soundlink II Bluetooth speaker. I've also purchased a Samsung T5 ssd that will go in my AGPTEK USB-C Docking Station. Come on Uncle Sam with the $1400 check! :)

From a perspective of audio professional - Ableton no support, Universal Audio no support, Native Instruments no support, RME and many other audio instruments and plug ins. I have MBP M1 and intel core i7 can handle 24tracks of serum + effects, my MBP M1 can handle just 14 without dropouts. Because of almost everything runs over rosetta 2. Starcraft 2 - metal optimized, but runs like 20-30% worse then on my previous MBP 13 with intel 10th gen from 2020. Also - because of not full support of M1. Sure FCPX, Logic Pro X is fine because it is native. Affinity is also great.

This just sounds like you don't really understand what was achieved here. The M1 Macs are a pretty significant technical achievement that makes the x64 architecture look downright silly. ARM is the future of computing, and the M1 just proved that.

@@eliwimmer ARM is certainly the future (except for gaming, atleast in the short term) but they didnt really achieve anything that significant to gush about as much as most Apple worshippers do. It's an impressive piece of silicon, that much can't be denied, but even x86/64 chips have recently been downscaled so much (mainly thanks to AMD) that they can perform about as well as M1 in most regular desktop tasks with a slightly higher power envelope, while retaining full compatibility with 32 bit apps. Mini Windows/Linux desktops are usually a little bulkier than the Mac Mini but are just as fast if not sometimes faster, but definitely less efficient. Compatility with legacy software is still very important though, that's why x86 will continue to exist for the foreseeable future.

@@contra_sandinista The efficiency part (and to a lesser extent, price) is what makes the M1 chip so compelling. The Mac mini using 26 Watts under load vs hundreds of watts under load for similarly performing x64 chips, is nothing short of outstanding. This is the primary thing I think is well worth gushing about. Desktop experience should be excellent on any modern chip no matter the architecture these days, and there are certainly still desktop chips more powerful than the M1, but to have an all in one desktop computer that can handle just about any workload but gaming for under $700 is definitely a big deal in my mind. That said, my Mac Mini isn't replacing my desktop RTX / Ryzen PC anytime soon. Though if I wasn't a gamer, it might.

New quick sampler/live loops features in combination with the amazing stock plugins and easy to navigate interface, it smokes other daws in the price range IMO. I have seen several tests that for merging huge hdr panoramas its way slower than intel. I also do quite a lot of hdr merging for my hdr timelapses and usually merge 400 hdrs in lightroom, so i would be interested in such a test as well

Bought the 16GB Mac mini M1 with 512 GB SSD. As a programmer (using web development tools and docker), it has been able to handle practically anything I use without fuss / noise from the fans. Blazing fast and overall very happy with the purchase. A few notes: - I just did the Software Update last night and I am still experiencing issues with bluetooth. Especially with my sony wh-1000xm3 headphones, I seem to lose connection for a couple of seconds once / twice an hour. Super annoying if you are on a zoom call and have to ask the other folks to repeat themselves - In hindsight sticking with the base 256 GB SSD and saving $200 would have been a better value for me. I overestimated how much storage I might need. - I have 3 external monitors (only one of them is 4k HD). When I tried, either of the USB-C ports worked with the monitor but only one monitor at a time. I had to connect the other monitor using HDMI. So I have one monitor collecting dust. I really don't want to plunk down more money to expand ports and wish Apple can fix this with a software update. - Overall having a dedicated space makes it easier to transition from laptop to the mini and it is much better value

So I just recently bought a 2020 iMac 8-Core i7 iMac, and loaded it up with a ton of RAM for photo and video editing. Do you think I'd be better off with the M1 Mac Mini and an external 5K display? In my head, going from 72GB of RAM to 16GB seems counterintuitive, but I know the M1 is much more efficient with memory management. Or maybe I should wait for the 2021 M1 iMac to arrive?

One important thing to consider is that you need a 4K or 5K display for MacOS since Mojave. Anything less will look horrible as all versions of MacOS since Mojave do not have subpixel antialiasing.

Disagree on the Mac Mini being better value. You can build an Intel Xeon E5-2689 system with 16GB RAM an RX 480 for less than $500 USD. The M1 Mini is more power efficient though. Also you're wrong about reliability of regular PCs. They're pretty reliable if you pick decent components, and interchangeable components are a good thing, not a bad thing. You can actually replace parts. If your Mac mini fails, you have to usually just buy and entire replacement computer.

I will later add another external 2Tb ssd (say may be after a month ) as my Project media drive. and export drive.FCPX is my main editing application

I’d say get the 16gb in my opinion, 16gb is starting to become the standard now and will help you with video editing if you ever get a higher resolution camera or if you plan on keeping the Mac for a while.

I traded in my 2019 MBP 16 I9 and bought the base level Mac Mini M1. The Mac Mini is my “bridge” Mac until the MBP 16” M whatever” comes out. So far it seems pretty smooth in FCP and I haven’t heard any fan noise. I added an external thunderbolt 3 SSD for editing.

Worst piece of crap I have ever bought in my long life, full of bug and not fully beta tested. A help desk supervisor slipped and indicated that the owners are being used as beta testers for both Big Sur and the M1. I have had nothing but trouble since i plugged it in. Data disappears, programs don't always work, corruption of my music files,( data changes and no longer has all the correct data such as song title, artis, album, genre and so on). It took days to clean up the music files, only to see them once again change. Every problem I call on is not addressed instead they tell me after looking at my pc everything is now working correctly. The next day all the problems are still there or have come back. I have a medium sized media file (5200 songs) and this is too much for the M1 to handle hence the screw up of the music data. Apple support can not handle the problems they know less than the guy at my local Staples. I NOW HAVE TO BUY A NEW PC BECAUSE I CAN NOT TRUST THE MAC MINI TO WORK DUE TO LOST AND CORRUPT DATA I have owned this since 2 MONTHS and it is unusable. Last night when I went to bed I had just over 5200 songs this morning I have 5145. My husband just came home with a new laptop for me (HP) and will be taking the mac mini to the dump tomorrow. A mac mini with all the up grades at $1400 in the TRASH !!!!!!!!!!!

You should be fine with a Mini or MBA 16. The one caveat is if you work a lot with Docker - depending on how many containers you use and how much RAM you need for it.

WORST Bluetooth ever!!! Can't handle mouse keyboard and headset. Then everything stutters. Huge lack of usb ports. Huge lack of linked monitors implementation. No microphone. Come on!! No SD card slot. A must!! I prefer my old mcMini.

First of all most AAA games are in and will be in the Windows ecosystem for along time. Do not wait for Apple to get into AAA gaming which will take months, years or if ever to have the collection of PC games. You will have wasted months if not years of not playing cutting edge, high setting, good FPS, games now in the hopes of something. Life is to short. Plus a Nidia 3090 can barely play a game like Cyberpunk at 4K 60fps. GPUs are getting better and better and you will be stuck with a outdated Mac in 2 years for high end gaming which couldn’t hold up to a $1,500 gaming pc even now. I love Mac and used them for 10 years. It’s still good for production but anything high end graphic wise it can’t hold up. You got Quadros gpu’s that are $6,000 dollars that have a hard time with some high end gpu work. I do think game streaming like Shadow pc right now is the solution for gaming on sMac or even cheap Windows laptop. I also think what Apple Arcade and mobile games especially 3D ones are really good and can be built on.

The M1 Mac mini is simply the best computer for the money. Doesn't matter if a custom PC - or, even a Mac Pro - is expandable, when M1-equipped Macs are already faster than custom builds of twice the cost. The power consumption associated with a full-fledged desktop is also insane, and I should know: my main desktop is a heavily upgraded Mac Pro tower, and it uses 200 watts at idle. All the while, the M1 Mac mini both uses infinitely less electricity (~4 watts at idle, if I am correct) and is a faster computer.

Coming from windows and after buying a 2020 Ipad air, I discovered that my two Samsung laser printers were not compatible with it. Question: So is that true for all Apple devices??? I never see printers mentioned in apple device reviews. Please explain! Getting ready to buy a new M1. Just not sure witch one yet. Thanks for great videos...

This machine is no game changer. It is a cool new platform but it has a disgusting price with a decent memory and disk. Going for 16GB RAM and a TB disk, you pay way way over 1000 $. For that price you get an intel 10850 with 10 cores which is way superior to this little box - nearly silent. It is just better then the last gen mac mini.This Fanboyism is a little annoying.

Any real world experience with Davinci Resolve and BM BRAW C4K timeline grading edit, and export (or 6K BRAW?). Thinking of moving up from 2014 MBP 15” now or wait a few months.. honestly. I’m thinking now and next year get a imac 30” M2 whatever it will be. Thoughts? Oh editing and grading BRAW on Davinci Resolve in C4K is frankly terrible on a 2014 MPB 15” with Nvidia 750m 2g GPU.. terrible... 4K prores no problem however.

Hi guys I’m a real layman when it comes to computing, the guy here needs some help. I just got a Samsung Odyssey monitor (won’t use it for gaming) for work, I trade stocks. If I had to chose between a single board computer ( m1 macmini IS a single board because everything is soldered without possibility to upgrade anything) and an equivalent price PC, I will always go for the PC for 2 reasons: 1. if something on the m1 goes bad after the 1 year apple warranty you're stuck with paying 4-500 dollars to be repaired by apple (on a PC you can replace the broken component for much much less) and 2. Mac mini can't be upgraded. a PC can be upgraded any time with a new motherboard and cpu for a fraction of the price of a new mac mini :) In my opinion the mac mini is only good if you're stuck in the apple ecosystem and you do not want to use windows and linux or if you don't have space for a tower pc.

Bought the Mini M1 with 16Gb of Ram and 512 Gb storage. Only problem so far is it will not remember display descale settings ! I reduce the scale by 15% to suit my TV and the next time I login, it has not remembered it and I have to redo it again ! Anyone else have this problem ?

As a PC guy I agree, the M1 looks like the best bang for buck, until you factor in the cost of transitioning to the apple eco system... i use a fully functional DAW on windows thats free(cakewalk), the equilavent will cost me 300 on a mac, intels tigerlake goes toe to toe with the M1 in single thread, still not as good bang for buck on the surface but once you factor in the hidden costs that come with going apple and lack of versatility (low ram/sdd) windows PC's dont looks so bad. That being said the M1 chip is a beast, nice job Apple.
