Seems we have to wait for awhile before M2 Pro and M2 Max are available, so if you are looking for a powerful MacBook in the short term I am guessing M1 Max is the way to go. These devices are on the higher price side so should you wait for M2 in the hope that M1 Max prices drop?

The staff is always great, if the person you're dealing with doesn't know something, they sure find someone that does it pretty fast. If you book an appointment there is almost never a wait time either which is great.

@@defendersart3051 I started with the base model 16Gb and 512Gb MBPM1 and have since moved to the 32Gb and 2Tb version MBPM1Max because my company handed me a nice bonus and I enjoy the ability to tinker around with a bit more room. Apple has been great to deal with on the purchases and the base 16" was sold in 1 day. The main question still remains: Do I need this horsepower or should I have gone with the Studio... I think I am glad to have this machine, it has done so well with editing photos and some short tinkering with video editing. But most of all I love the keyboard.

I’m curious to see if they bring some more prores or encode/decode performance to the M2. Most people don’t need M1 Pro or Max, but it would be nice to have a little taste. M1 didn't have any ProRes engines. M1 Pro added 1, M1 Max added 2, A15 added 1 as well, so M2 should have at least 1 if it's based on A15?

Hi Rene, will the M2 chip alone be able to support the 14 inch chassis with all the ports? Even M1 is enough power for my usage but i'd like to have the ports available natively without going to a dongle. So i guess my wishlist is a base model 14" macbook. But if its not possible then i know i can stop waiting for that possibility and resign myself to dongle land with a M1/2 air.

Got to say I hope the M2 gen will be based on A16 especially if A16 is uses ARMv9. I could see MX becoming it’s own whole thing in near future. After all the use case for laptop and phone/tablet remain very different, so there is a lot of room to specialize in their own fields.

With these old eyes, this normal is looking for is a larger iMac 27-inch version of the M1 24-inch iMac. Do not care if it is M1 or M2, and do not need a "Pro" chip unless Apple keeps the base price starting at $ 1799.00. So if it is again same specs as the M1 24-inch iMac with a 27-inch 5K display works for me.

With 3 new mac models on the horizon, how likely would it be that we get a new M2 Base MacBook Pro, an M2 Mini and and M2 Pro/Max Mini at the same time? I feel like with the current state of Intel chips and the new AMD rumored to be coming out in June or July that it seems like Apple would need to release an M2 Pro/Max at the same time. IMO it would make more sense to release the full chipset at the start of the year, and then integrate it into systems as the year goes on. If there are any major advances they could just up the clock speeds of the chips later on in the year.

I bought a MacBook Pro M1Max fully loaded and very expensive. I was surprised to find out that there is no apps to record 4k video (this includes QuickTime) yet my old intel MacBook Pro I traded in could do it easily. The new MacBook Pro M1Max has intermittently functioning Touch ID (it rarely works) and I get a beach ball scrubbing video in any media player. Again the Intel Macbook had none of these issues. I’m very disappointed in it.

Please add this.. the only reason why Apple's Silicon performs better than Intel is -> Intel must design processors to go hand in hand with multiple hardwares from different manufacturers.. even an ARM processor from Intel will end up having more lines of instruction sets than an Apple's ARM based processor.. this is done in order to have compatibility with other hardwares to work in tandem with the processor.. Apple literally makes their own software and sources their hardware from specific suppliers that works for apple silicon and apple silicon alone.. meaning Apple need to put in instruction sets that only needs to be compatible with what Apple already has inside their Macs.. this is the reason why Apple always has an upper hand in terms of Raw Performance

If the M2 still only has two Thunderbolt controllers, I'll still not be able to attach two non-powered TB external drives to a Mac laptop. My MBA says not enough power to handle them. I can connect a TB and USB non-powered external drives and they both will mount. So far, nobody has mentioned whether this limitation has been fixed in the Pro or Max version or if the same thing happens on the original 24" M1 iMac. If this limitation still exists with the M2, there's no reason to waste your money for a marginal increase in computing speed. I'm sure the M2 versions will be priced between the M1 and Pro/Max versions, making at least the Pro version a better value than a less capable M2 base version.

I just hope for the modular control. Immagine the long apple screen and under it 5 laptops M1 M2 pro max air. Something like that. And in the back 5 mini stacked and maybe a Mac tower. Working all toghether like a server computer and I can access all that on a iPad pro and iPhone . So I wold be able also to use all of my monitors on a singel fevice but maybe I wold have diffrent language keypords on each laptop and maybe multople vpn's some combined sekurity and using parallels I could switch between diffrent sistems and push the limits of a computing home lab to the max so I wold be able to study more 3D modeleing and rendering while using Unreal and Max Studio and coding and compileing and studyng games developent while making a new big awdome game or working on one from multiple perspectives on the same time reviewing and asembling. That is what I want to be able to do. I cold start with a small rpg 2D and do all of this on a small scale but I wold love to finaly be able to have a home lab even studyng netorking and having the best security. So no one alone wold ever target my pc and be succesful. Well its a lot of stuff but it all gowes togheter with an apple server system hardwere and softwere. I can't trust other companies because I don't see any real intrrst in protecting and conforting the costumer, besides Apple that is! If you edit video, you want the M Pro or M Max version; you don't just want M1 or M2 alone. You need at least 16gb of ram. I have 8gb M1 Mac Mini, and I'm always at max memory and memory swapping, just surfing the web with 3 windows, Mail, and one other minor app. Grammarly uses up 1.5 gb of ram, and taxes my CPU more than any other app I use. (I guess my grammar is that bad)

Starting with m1, there is no wrong choice. Apple silicon is an incredible value for the money.
