The pin 1 protrudes more because it's grounding pin. It's supposed to ground the chassis of the mic first (as soon as you connect your mic) and disconnect last (while grounding the mic chassis) that way, it can get rid of any charge build up and prevent shock. This is the same thing that happens on the ground pin for the electrical sockets... Very thoughtful of Rode to do that... not many microphone manufacturers do that.

I don't know why my eyes were got busy to read "top banana!" on your tshirt in the last part of this video instead of looking at your face.😅Btw I prefer M1 slightly more for vocals.

Мне кажется, - Rode M1 очень похож на Behringer XM8500...

SM58 sounds much more flat and neutral which is probably better for a mix. The M1 had more high end and character, sounded better as a live instrument.

On the singing, the 58 has much more lovely meaty presence and the M1 sounds flat and clinical.

Good shit. I was trying to make up my mind and just bought the M1. Sounds cleaner and brighter. I sing loud and high. Greetings from Cali. Say ´´Hi´´ to the Matt Busby statue for me (he is my cousin) and tell the folks at Hotel Football to get better parking!! Did they finish the road construction yet?

Ananda Mañana I love mine! Yeah I really love the clean sound it has. I worked a lot with in ears last year and The difference was really noticeable when I swapped to the M1! Let me know how you get on with it :)

Pin 1 is the shield or ground. It is purposely made to be the last to disconnect. Just like the three prong mains plug in the US. The 58 sounds scooped in the low mids which some may equate to "clarity." The actual experience is the opposite of what the response curves suggest. The extended highs of the Rode and lows of the Shure are outside of the vocal range and therefore moot. The 58 is ragged in the sibilant range and sound "spitty" to me. Male voices may find it difficult to cut through the mix while singing in lower register with scooped Shure. To be fair I'm not a fan of Shure, but not quite sold yet on the Rode. Have to try one out in person first. I would be interested in seeing the comparison with a Sennheiser E835 thrown in. It is the mic I use most for live vocals and am most familiar with.

Carus0e I came across this not long after making the video and it 100% clicked and made perfect sense :)

I have both mics and the rode m1 is way better sound quality more clear and warmer I compare it to the beta 58, but better because it doesn't have the muffled sound that shure produces I also own a beta 58 and sennhesier e935 and to me shure and sennhesier suck, in my honest opinion rode m1 is better than all those mics I mentioned and cheaper, but if u want the best of the best for dynamic that has a unique and warmest dynamic mic go with the m80 Telefunken

Hey man, I'm a freelance Voice Over Artist from the U.S.A, I like your videos. Here's an idea for you; consider doing a microphone comparison between the Rode M1 and the Shure SM57.

@mrjenybean5 жыл бұрын
nearly there foundation dot com depends on what the gig is :) If your talking media / video then shotgun all the way. If were talking live dynamic like the m1 / 58 is often a good choice
